November holidays 2016: rest 3 days.
Read more below.

Try to suddenly ask friends what exactly we are celebrating in November. The thoughtful answer “November holidays” sounds most often. Indeed, four renames in twenty years can confuse anyone. The older generation often recalls the anniversary of the October Revolution (which was celebrated in November ... once in an English special school half of the lesson went to explain this calendar confusion to foreign guests).

The correct name of the holiday - “Day of National Unity” - does not immediately pop up in memory, and very few are able to tell the story of the liberation of Moscow by Minin and Pozharsky in 1612 from the Polish occupiers. But, regardless of the name, the November holidays are always remembered in the plural, the people got used from 1927 to two public holidays in November. But…
How well we rested in the year before last November! Two days off, a postponed day, a holiday ... four days off, three workers and again two days off ... Alas, the weekend schedule for the November holidays of 2016 is a little sadder.

“National Unity Day” - the fourth of November - falls on Friday in 2016. The total is:
October 31, November 1-2  (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday) - we work as usual,
the 3rd of November  (Thursday) - pre-holiday day reduced by one hour,
November 4th  - celebrate
November 5-6  - legal weekend;   look at the calendar:

This is how November came out. All possible transfers of holidays that coincided with the weekend have already been exhausted.

In general, an interesting story is obtained with these transfers. In 1992, when the new Labor Code of the Russian Federation was adopted, almost all holiday dates fell on Saturday and Sunday. Then article 112 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation was adopted, fixing the mandatory provision of additional days off for holidays that coincided with Saturday or Sunday. Every year, deputies approve a weekend schedule; and every time dissatisfied comments sound. It seems that the people elected for twenty years are tired of it.
Last year, a group of deputies from Tatarstan took the initiative to cancel the postponement of holidays that coincided with the weekend. The main argument is economic: during the holidays, owners of private enterprises and the country's economy as a whole suffer significant losses. This is true, especially in January - the country’s “idle season” is almost half a month.
The deputies call the second argument an increase in the list of public holidays and public holidays. The argument is not very clear. It is enough to look into the accountant’s calendar and we will see that in 1992 there were twenty public holidays, in 2014 - nineteen. The list and dates of the holidays have changed, but there is no quantitative difference.

However, comparing with other countries, we still live very well. For comparison - in the Netherlands there are only six national holidays, in the USA - ten, in Austria, England, France and Germany there are already 13 such days! All the same, they do not reach our 20 days. So maybe a little shrink would be nice?
It is not known whether the deputies will accept the proposal to cancel the postponement of holidays that coincided with the weekend, but we can try on such a life already in November 2016. A lonely day off on November 4 in the middle of the work week and no long November holidays. Will we try?

History

National Unity Day has its roots in 1612. This year, the army of Minin and Pozharsky liberated the city. Thanks to this event, the Time of Troubles is over.

After the death of Ivan the Terrible, which occurred in 1613, the throne was taken by the Romanov family. Due to the interruption of the Rurikovich clan, a crisis ensued, which eventually acquired a national character.

At this time, chaos occurs in the state. Robberies, murders, feuds, drunkenness are becoming commonplace. There were many impostors who wanted to take the throne by fraud. However, this was succeeded by the so-called seven-boyars, whose head was Prince Fedor Mstislavsky.
First, he let the Poles into the city, and then promoted a Polish Catholic named Vladislav to take the throne. However, Patriarch Germogen could not allow this, which is why he raised an uprising against the Poles. In March 1611, the uprising did not take place due to disagreements among the Cossacks and nobles.

Six months later, in September, a simple trader named Kuzma Minin called on the people to take up arms. He listened, gave half of the militia acquired to the fund. In the end, a militia was created, led by Minin and Pozharsky. Dmitry Pozharsky was the Novgorod prince, who was chosen by Minin, and the people supported him.

When the army was assembled, which included not only military men, archers and Cossacks, but also ordinary people, who expressed a desire. In November 1612, this uprising expelled the invaders from the city.

It was this event that formed the basis of the holiday “Day of National Unity.” This event was long ago, however, this holiday in Russia has been celebrated only since 2005.

Tradition of celebration

Traditionally, the city administration organizes mass public events, charity events, concerts, etc. Invariably, every year people, the administration and even the president gather at the monument to Pozharsky and Minin in order to honor their memory by laying flowers.

November 4 is considered an official holiday, so if this day falls on a day off, then another day off on a weekday. That is exactly what will happen in 2018. because November 4 is Sunday, so on Monday you can not officially go to work.

Other holidays in November
