Cotton balls with their own hands for the new year. Crafts from cotton pads and cotton wool for the new year. Cotton snowflake

New Year is happy and fun party. During this period, I especially want to create something beautiful, beautiful, and most importantly, with my own hands. After all, the desire to please your loved ones and loved ones is great. beautiful things and unusual ideas.

Toys made of cotton wool look especially beautiful and cute, it is not difficult to make them using the old technology, the main thing is to know the secret of these New Year's decorations and have a fantasy.

Such toys can be presented as a gift, they can make an original composition in the room, besides, such a “Soviet” toy can be hung on a Christmas tree, because retro products always add color and originality.

Today, a sparkling, richly decorated Christmas tree is a mandatory attribute of the New Year and Christmas. Glass beads, foil rain, large bright balls hanging on spruce branches, give adults and children faith in a fairy tale and holiday miracles.

However, Christmas decorations were not always made of plastic and glass. The first Christmas tree decorations were made from cotton wool.

Since 1700, by decree of Peter I, the celebration of the New Year in Russian Empire moved from September to January. On the eve of the holiday, people started a tradition to hang the roofs, gates and doors of houses with coniferous branches. However, there was no additional decor at that time.

At the end of the nineteenth century, the trends of the West came to the country. The custom of decorating a Christmas tree on Christmas Eve was borrowed from the German people.

In Europe, mass production of glass toys has already been established. But to launch its own glass-blowing factories, Russia did not have the necessary amount of raw materials, and it was very expensive to import finished products from abroad. Therefore, Christmas decorations began to be made from cotton wool.

Cotton wool had excellent characteristics: it was valued for its softness, pliability, durability and ability to interact with other materials. There were enough raw materials for work, and the craftsmen in the factories put their whole soul into creating festive decor.

The first Christmas tree pendants were called "Dresden toys". They were made by hand from pressed cotton wool and were flat relief figures. Often cardboard was taken as the basis: it gave the product greater strength.

A little later, the masters mastered the art of three-dimensional modeling and began the production of three-dimensional wadded toys in the form of Christmas symbols - stars and angels. Each figurine was covered with a paste diluted with starch. This composition made the toy tough and less vulnerable to pollution.

During the revolution, there was a change of power, and the new government did not encourage the celebration of Christmas. In 1929, an official decree was issued banning Christmas and all its attributes.

But that didn't stop people. Secretly in their homes, they still decorated the Christmas tree with cotton products. The creation of Christmas decorations was done underground. This period accounts for the creation of unique works self made of value to current collectors.

In 1935, the holiday was returned to the people. The Christmas theme was replaced by New Year's, instead of cherubs and six-pointed stars they began to produce figurines of the Soviet mood - ordinary people, athletes, fairy tale characters. Natural motifs were widespread - vegetables, mushrooms and fruits as symbols of prosperity and fertility.

Since the 1950s, factories have been using machines for winding cotton wool and hot stamping cotton toys. This is gradually replacing manual work.

In the 60s, the process of creating Christmas decorations was completely mechanized and put on a grand scale. Since then, decorations for Christmas tree began to be mass-produced according to one pattern and lost their uniqueness. Therefore, items produced since 1966 are not considered rare and are of no value to collectors.

Now the fashion for hand-made wadded toys is back. Modern masters are trying to revive this trend in art and give it a second life.

Notable masters

Many modern well-known needlewomen create vintage toys using technologies once invented by our grandparents.

One of these needlewomen is Elena Vasko, New Year's toys made of cotton wool in her performance are very popular. Master classes, secrets and features of creating these dolls inspire many to make such dolls on their own. Christmas decorations.

Masters such as Irina Cherepanova and Natalya Rodina are also quite popular in this area. Their lessons can be easily found on the Internet, they are visual aid how to make wonderful creations from cotton wool.

Preparatory work

Christmas toys made of cotton wool have the advantage that they are made from improvised materials and do not require large expenditures. The story tells that our ancestors did not know how to make toys for the Christmas tree, or did not have the opportunity to purchase them. That is why this technology was born.

So, stunning vintage, colorful and beautiful Christmas decorations are created from the following materials:

  • cotton wool;
  • glue;
  • newspapers;
  • wire.

Particular attention should be paid to the fact that faces for toys are often made from salt dough. If several toys are supposed, then it is best to create blanks in advance.

The technology for creating faces from dough is as follows: you need to take two parts of flour and one part of salt, dilute with water, add flesh-colored paint to give the blanks a natural color. After that, you can sculpt the face, but you do not need to make it very dense.

It is important to make a notch at the back. You can make a face on your finger so that it does not spread.

This is followed by the process of baking blanks, for this you can use the oven or an open frying pan. The blanks are baked for half an hour. From above they need to be painted: draw eyes, mouth, eyebrows, etc. Then cover the workpiece with transparent varnish, you can use ordinary nail polish.

You also need to prepare cotton wool in advance: paint it in different colors. For this, aniline dyes for fabric are used. How to make cotton wool colored? You need to unwind pieces of cotton wool, put them in a pan. In advance, dilute the dye in a saucepan and bring the water to a boil. For a few minutes, cotton wool should be left in water with a dye, then squeezed out and hung out to dry.

It is advisable to think in advance what colors will be needed and prepare all the necessary shades.

Creation technology

A little imagination, skill and patience - and your unique Christmas tree decoration will turn out. Below is an instruction for creating Santa Claus and the Snow Maiden - traditional symbols of the New Year, always relevant.

  1. You need to take a long piece of smooth wire and bend it in half - you get a loop for the head. After that, two more loops are created, which will form the basis of the shoulders.
  2. It is necessary to thread a short piece of wire into the loops that form the shoulders and clamp them using pliers. This is necessary so that the structure does not slip out and break.
  3. With the help of pliers, you need to bend the feet and twist the lower ends so that you get a waist.
  4. After that, you need to take the gray-colored cotton wool and start twisting it around the feet of the toy. These will be boots. It is necessary to periodically dip your fingers into the glue and continue to screw, slightly pressing the cotton wool to the wire. Glue will give strength to the created toy. The same must be done with the second leg.
  5. The same technology is used to create mittens on the toy's hands.
  6. Now it's time to move on to the torso. Initially, you need to use paper and wrap the body with strips of newspaper, be sure to moisten the strips with glue.
  7. Hands and feet are also initially glued with paper.
  8. The frame of the toy has been created. Now it's time for clothes. Stripes of colored cotton wool are first wrapped around the sleeves, not forgetting to moisten the fingers in glue.
  9. Next, panties are made of white cotton, and a fur coat is formed in the same way.
  10. From cotton wool white flowers you need to make an edge on a fur coat.

Be sure to shape the toy. To do this, gently bend the handles, and also straighten the legs. From the blanks you need to choose suitable face and glue it to the wire loop created earlier. The head is easily glued to ordinary PVA glue. After that, the entire structure must be left so that it dries well and takes the desired shape.

For the Snow Maiden, you need to create a braid. It is also made from cotton. In this case, the technique of ordinary braid weaving will help. After the glue dries, a hat is made, both the Snow Maiden and Santa Claus need it. But at the Snow Maiden, a braid is neatly tucked under her hat.

Symbols of the year

Not only the Snow Maiden and Santa Claus can be made using this technique. It is symbolic to create symbols of the year from cotton wool. Using the example of creating a goat, you can see how toys are created with the help of all the same materials: wire, paper and cotton wool.

The peculiarity of this method is that cotton wool is not preliminarily dyed in water. But this is not suitable for all animals. The goat can be white, so cotton wool does not need to be dyed. But there is another feature here - the creation of an outfit for an animal. It can be made from fabric. Inventing retro toys, you can dress them in national clothes, embroidery, ruffles always look beautiful.

Head blanks are not needed here. The whole toy is created using paper and cotton, all parts of the body are rolled from these materials. Don't forget the glue. When the toy is created, leave it to dry and start creating the outfit. Kuban sundress with embroidery is perfect as clothing. Particularly inventive will be able to dress the animal in a fur coat of the same Snow Maiden or Santa Claus.

Of course, someone can say that such products are not in fashion, and in modern world You can purchase an incredible number of options for toys for the Christmas tree. But such wonderful decorations are impossible to find. The creation of such toys for the Christmas tree can be done family business, and in the evenings make toys using this technique.

Even small children can participate in this. This will be an opportunity to touch the beautiful, to develop your creative abilities. And also have a hand in creating Christmas decorations for the Christmas tree.

Such "old" toys can be made at home in a completely uncomplicated way. At the same time, they can be presented as a gift as a souvenir or addition to the main present. Such toys give an absolutely unusual, fabulous mood. Hanging them on the Christmas tree is also a special pleasure.

And the point is not even in the beauty of such products and their originality, but in the fact that things created with one's own hand are especially valued. The more such toys, the more colorful the Christmas tree will be decorated. Moreover, you can create absolutely any toy using this technique.

Photo master class "Children on the Christmas tree"

An exceptionally beautiful photo lesson from the master ChirunArt. The toys are made in the old technique "cotton wool + paste".

Materials and tools:

  1. Cotton wool (cotton, uniform).
  2. Wire (for example, knitting from a hardware store, but even thinner and simpler is better, we will need it for the “skeleton” of the frame).
  3. Potato starch.
  4. PVA glue.
  5. Foil (ordinary, which you can find. For example, for cooking).
  6. Stacks (Very handy with balls, rounded, sharp. Needed for small parts, face, mittens, cuffs ...).
  7. Awl.
  8. Watercolor paints.
  9. Acrylic paints.
  10. Glitter (sequins) dry white.
  11. Varnish in a can. (Hairspray will do.)
  12. Rope (gold or silver for a loop).
  13. Threads (ordinary cotton white or light threads).
  14. Long needle. You will need to thread the rope into the finished toy.
  15. Brushes ( different sizes, for painting).

". I wanted to make a full-fledged one at home, but I’m catastrophically unable to do anything, so I’ll post the photos that I have for now (sorry for the quality).

And the master class interested me here. I saw a Christmas tree decorated toys from the time of our grandmothers, such did from cotton wool before the 60s (maybe someone remembers):

And these wadded dolls for the Christmas tree are made simply, from improvised materials (there were no others then): cotton wool, wire, newspapers, glue or paste. The faces were made from papier-mâché.

And what is Santa Claus 🙂

Conducted a master class at the fair Olga Nikiforova (Art Gallery "Zoya"). And everyone could make any of the retro toys with their own hands. Both children and adults were invited. I chose the Snow Maiden :).

Creating a face for a cotton toy

The master class was prepared by educator additional education MAOU DO TsRTDIY of the Kamensky district of the Penza region Syomova Yuliya Valerievna.

Materials and tools:

  • face mold,
  • self-hardening mass for modeling,
  • gouache,
  • tassel,
  • palette,
  • gel pens,
  • marshmallow box,
  • cotton wool,
  • petrolatum,
  • white acrylic paint or corrector,
  • colorless nail polish.

Progress

Faces for cotton toys can be made using purchased molds from ready-made clay or home-made self-hardening mass for modeling (with plaster) and cold porcelain. In the photo we see faces from self-made masses.

On closer examination, the difference is visible: the cold porcelain face is smoother, without defects. But as it dries, it shrinks in size.

Let's consider creating own face mold toys.

We grease the doll’s face with petroleum jelly, make a layer from a dense piece of cold porcelain (), wipe it with starch so that it can be removed better, print it carefully, without shifting or thinning in the area of the nose and lips.

You can leave it on the doll for a while, then carefully remove it and dry it on cotton wool in a cell from marshmallows, for example (a box with an insert), dry it for several days. Before use, lubricate both the surface of the mold and the surface of the mass with starch. We make an impression.

The drying process takes some time, I dry it in the same box on a convex piece of cotton wool. At first, I simply dried it on paper, the faces became flat, deformed during drying.

If there are large defects, we pass small sandpaper. Next, we prime with putty, for this we lay out a little putty and add water to the brushes, we pass over the surface.

Next, we tint with gouache, on the palette we make a flesh color and a little pink for the lips and cheeks. Dries very quickly. Then cover the eye area with white acrylic paint or corrector. Faces made of cold porcelain are more lively, not very clear.

After drying with gel pens, draw eyes, eyebrows and lips, if necessary - hair. We fix with one or two layers of colorless nail polish. You can sculpt handles for dolls. To do this, a mold is acquired or an impression is made in the same way as from the face.

And here is the result, a cotton toy with makeshift face. Size less than 12 cm.

Workshops on making Christmas toys from cotton wool

Materials and tools

To make cotton toys you will need:

  • salty dough, acrylic paints, varnish - for the face,
  • cotton wool dyed with aniline dye,
  • paste,
  • two-core wire (for the body frame - two pieces 30 and 12 cm long),
  • pliers,
  • newspaper (cut into strips) or toilet paper,
  • PVA glue,
  • wooden stick with a sharp tip (barbecue).

Salt dough elements

The master made blanks of faces in advance and painted them with acrylic paints. The technology is like this:

2 parts flour + 1 part salt, diluted with water, a little beige acrylic paint is added to give a flesh color. A face is molded, but not dense, but with a notch at the back, on the finger (so as not to crack). Olga bakes faces right in a closed pan (low gas), or in the oven (110-120 degrees) for about half an hour. Then the face is painted and covered with transparent varnish (can be cosmetic, for nails). The following blanks are obtained (rear view - with a notch and front):

You need ordinary cotton wool in rolls (which is sold in pharmacies), pre-dyed in different colors with aniline dye for fabric: put unwound pieces of wet cotton wool in a saucepan with dye diluted in water, bring to a boil, leave for a few minutes, then wring out and hang to dry. It turns out such an abundance:

You also need to cook a paste: 2 tablespoons of starch in a glass of water.

Bend a long piece of wire in half, forming a loop for the head. Then - two more loops, these will be the shoulders:

Thread a short piece of wire into the shoulder loops and clamp them with pliers so that they do not pop out:

Then bend the feet with pliers:

And twist the lower ends to make a "waist":

Now take a strip of cotton gray color for felt boots and begin to twist it around the “leg”, then dip the fingers into the paste and continue to fasten, slightly pressing, then the second leg in the same way:

Similarly, we make "mittens" on the hands:

similarly arms and legs:

Now you can start to dress. We also wrap the sleeves with strips of colored cotton wool, moisten with a paste:

We make panties with white cotton wool, then we form a fur coat:

and an edge of rolled strips of white cotton wool:

We bend the handles to the desired position, straighten the legs. We select a face from the blanks, glue it on PVA to a wire loop and leave to dry.

While weaving a braid of cotton wool.

When the glue holding the head dries, you can make a hat and tuck a pigtail under it:

The Snow Maiden from cotton wool is ready (only a gift needs to be made in hand, it asks for it):

Here you can make such New Year's toys from cotton wool with your own hands. Perhaps the older generation will like such a gift 🙂

I would be glad if the master class is useful to you, and you send photos of your retro toys.

And one more master class from Svetlana Satina:

Cotton Christmas toy "Lady"

For the Christmas tree, we choose the most beautiful and sincere toys. Having spent a little time and imagination, it is easy to decorate it with homemade hand-made wadded toys.

Materials and tools

For this you will need the following materials:
- copper wire,
- side cutters,
- cotton wool
- threads
- PVA glue,
- Super glue,
- acrylic paints,
- brushes,
- finished puppet face,
- napkin for decoupage,
- awl
- jute twine,
- thin crochet hook

Making a doll

Our doll is made on a copper frame, from which all work begins. We measure the copper wire so that it is enough for the torso, legs and neck, double it and fold it in the center. We make a loop in place of the neck, twist it several times and bend the ends of the wire.

From another segment we make arms of the desired length and also bend the ends. At shoulder level, tightly rewind the wire.

For this work, I used a plaster cast of a face cast from an ordinary doll. To do this, cover the face of the doll with plasticine, carefully remove it, and fill the resulting form with a solution of gypsum. After hardening, remove the plasticine - and you're done.

For further work, we take cotton wool, divide it into strips and begin to wrap the frame. We fix all layers of cotton white threads. In this master class, I used colored threads to make it better visible in the photo.

First we form the torso, then we wrap the legs and arms. Add cotton wool to the skirt area.

When the shape of the doll is in general terms ready, we begin to work with glue. PVA must be diluted in half with water so that the glue becomes more liquid. Cotton wool is divided into thin strips. We coat each piece with glue from the inside, put it in the right place and again apply glue to it, but only from the outside. So we work in stages until we close all the threads on the arms and legs.

We tear off a wide piece from the cotton, divide it into thin layers, cover the shoulders with it and again smear it with glue. Thus we create the upper part of the clothes.

To make it more convenient to work with a skirt and cuffs, the workpiece must be somehow fixed. I found a suitable candlestick, on which I simply seated the doll.

To create a cuff, tear off two identical strips of cotton, coat with glue and wrap the ends of the sleeves, leaving room for mittens. We expand the bottom of the skirt by applying a few layers of wet cotton material to it.

By the same principle, we make a collar and an edge on a caftan.

Now the doll must be allowed to dry properly, which will take several hours.

At the next stage of work, glue the puppet face to the top loop, leaving room for the neck. We form a head from cotton wool in rough outline and glue it with reverse side faces.

We cover unsightly places with a headdress. In this case, I decided a kind of old hat with a ponytail at the end. The hat fits like an edge, and the tail is made from a thin piece of cotton wool.

Our lady is almost ready and you can proceed to the decorative part.

decoration

We decorate the skirt with a colored napkin using the decoupage method, from which we cut out the necessary elements. We cut off the edges of the pattern with our hands so that they are not noticeable, and glue it around the entire perimeter of the skirt.

We tint the bottom of the skirt and short fur coat with emerald green watercolor paint, without touching the cuffs and the edge. IN yellow dye the jacket.

We paint the headdress, boots and mittens in bright red. We send the doll to dry.

It remains for us to paint the face of the lady, work out the details and make a loop so that it can be hung on the Christmas tree.

How to paint a doll's face

We apply white paint to the area of \u200b\u200bthe eyeballs. Mix black with some white. With a thin brush, draw the eyebrows and upper eyelid. We apply the iris in blue, put black pupils and white dots of highlights on it. With black watercolor, we slightly emphasize the contours of the eyebrows and add a little on the upper eyelid. Mix white paint with red beige, highlight the lips. We dilute this color with a small amount of white and apply a blush to the doll.

With crimson red, we go through the depressions on the hat, lightly tint the boots and mittens to give them volume. We paint the scarf with the same color.

With an awl we make a hole in the upper part of the toy and with the help of a hook we stretch the jute thread. Our Christmas tree toy made of cotton wool is ready to take its place on the Christmas tree.

Cotton wool and cotton pads are one of the most popular materials for creating New Year's crafts. Obviously, their external resemblance to snow affects. We have collected for you some wonderful workshops using them: you will learn how to make snowmen, Christmas tree decorations and even snowfall with your own hands!

Snowflakes on a Christmas tree from cotton pads

It's very simple and beautiful Christmas decoration. Several of these snowflakes will decorate any Christmas tree.

What will we need?

  • some cotton pads
  • small pieces of colored felt
  • stencil for cutting circles or compasses
  • braid or narrow strips of felt for hanging

Progress

From the felt we cut out colored circles, the diameter of which will be slightly smaller than the diameter of the cotton pads.

We divide the cotton pads into two halves. We draw lines crosswise with a pen. Apply them as if drawing an eight-pointed snowflake. We dig a hole in the center (you can use an awl). Then we make cuts, as shown in the photo.

Tip: If the cotton pads are too thin, you do not need to split them into halves - use them whole.

Then the cut parts must be carefully pulled together so that the “paws” of the snowflake are obtained. When everything is ready, we take a whole cotton pad, put a piece of colored felt on it and cover it with the prepared base. We sew the craft with a white thread on the front side, placing the future loop inside.

Make some of these snowflakes and decorate your Christmas tree with them.

If desired, you can connect the snowflakes together into a garland - it will turn out very unusual and beautiful.

Christmas tree decoration: cotton pad angels

These angels are so weightless and touching! They certainly will not leave anyone indifferent. It will take no more than five minutes to make one angel. And when you fill your hand - even less.

What will we need?

  • small beads
  • Super glue
  • gold or silver paint outline (optional)

Progress

Take a cotton pad and carefully cut it in half. Place a bead in the center of one of the halves.

We work out the edges of the disk with thinning scissors or make a small pattern with ordinary thin scissors. Then we tighten the disk under the bead with a thread.

The upper part of the future angel is ready. Now take the second part of the cotton pad and fold it in half.

We tuck two corners, forming a triangle. And then we wrap them inside.

We put a toothpick in the center so that there is something to hold on to when we fasten the two parts of our New Year's crafts together.

Directly under the bead head we drip a small drop of glue.

We put our skirt on it. Then we decorate the finished angel with the help of a contour paint.

The neck of an angel can be wrapped with an ordinary thread or a thin gold wire. So it will be very convenient to hang them on the Christmas tree.

Snowfall from cotton wool

This is a very simple to make, but incredibly beautiful-looking accessory. A little cotton wool - and magical snowfall will begin in your room!

What will we need?

  • large pack of cotton
  • white thread for sewing

Progress

We insert the thread into the needle. Pour the glue into any bowl and dip the thread into it. In the hands we form small balls of cotton wool. Then we pierce them with a needle and pass the thread through the center. Put on as many balloons as you like.

If after some time the thread becomes dry, again gently dip it in glue and continue the process.

In this way, you can make very beautiful snow garlands. And if you hang the threads vertically under the ceiling, you get a very beautiful snowfall. Cotton wool can be additionally decorated with sparkles.

Cotton snowman

What is New Year without a snowman? Our favorite winter hero will turn out to be very cute. You can put it under the tree, on the windowsill, or even next to the New Year's snacks - let it decorate.

What will we need?

  • PVA glue or homemade paste
  • small twigs or straw (for hands)
  • toothpick

Progress

We lather our hands thicker and take cotton wool. We roll two (or three, if you prefer a “three-level” snowman) dense balls of different sizes. This is called the wet felting technique, which is usually used to roll up wool for crafts.

When the balls are ready, carefully place them on a flat surface and let them dry.

Pour glue into a bowl and dilute it with water in a ratio of 2: 1 (2 - glue, 1 - water). You can also add dry glitter here - it will be more beautiful.

Dip the dried lumps into a bowl with tweezers. Then we take them out and dry them again.

When the parts of the future snowman are ready, we connect them together with a toothpick. First, it also needs to be dipped in glue.

We will make eyes from small black beads or beads. You can just draw them.

To make a snowman a carrot, you need to break off small piece toothpicks. Leave a small edge free so that it can be stuck into the head. The rest is tightly wrapped with a thin layer of cotton wool. Then the carrots must also be moistened in the glue mixture. When it dries, paint it orange.

On the sides in the body of the snowman we stick twig handles. You can put a paper bucket on our handsome man's head or add some more traditional accessories.

As you can see, working with cotton wool and cotton pads is easy and pleasant. In this case, the result is simply wonderful. Try to repeat any of the suggested ideas to see for yourself.

New Year is family celebration, which is carried out in the circle of close and dear people. If the house has Small child, then parents will definitely buy a Christmas tree or a pine tree, decorate it with joint efforts. Many try to decorate the room with their children and Christmas tree in an original way, they make toys and decorations with their own hands.

In this article, we will teach you the art of cotton papier-mâché, tell you in detail how to make Christmas tree decorations and other crafts using this pleasant, soft and pliable material.

Not so long ago, when there were no TVs or computers, in the evenings after work, people made Christmas tree decorations on their own. Such vintage toys made of cotton wool can be seen in museums and private collections. Our parents basically threw away simple decorations, because there was a huge variety of purchased, bright and shiny toys.

Now the fashion for hand made items is back. Masters create real miracles using the most ordinary objects. Let's see what is needed to make toys from cotton wool.

Necessary materials

1. Waste paper (old notebooks, newspapers, magazines, napkins).

2. PVA glue. There are jars with liquid contents on sale. This composition is fine. If the glue is very thick, then it must be diluted with water in proportions of one to two.

3. A roll of pharmacy natural cotton wool.

4. Wire that bends well.

5. Brush for glue.

6. Round stick or knitting needle.

7. A set of sequins for decoration.

8. Toothpicks.

9. Polyethylene film.

10. Foil.

11. Scissors.

12. Simple and strong thread.

13. Gouache paints and a thin brush for them.

14. Acrylic varnish.

The basic principle

The manufacture of any toys from cotton wool has its own common features. Why is this technology called papier-mâché? Because the principle of operation is very similar to the creation. Only instead of scraps or strips, cotton wool is used, and instead of paste, PVA glue is used.

Work always begins with a drawing. This must be done in order to have an idea about the contours of the future object, which parts and what shape will need to be made. Next comes the layer-by-layer winding of the cotton part and smearing the surface with glue. Time is given for freezing.

When the craft has dried, the winding of the cotton wool continues, then the next layer is again smeared with glue. This is done until the object acquires the necessary shape. All that remains is to paint the figurine and, after drying, varnish it.

Frame manufacturing

If the conceived toys made of cotton wool have a complex shape, parts that need to be separated from the overall figure, then a wire frame is used. For example, when making a monkey, you need to separately make a long tail and a leg that is bent at the knee.

In order for such parts to hold and not fall, you need to create a skeleton from the wire. It bends in the right places, forming what is needed by bending. When the frame is ready, you need to wrap it with foil to hide the angular and sharp edges of the craft. Then the first layer of cotton is applied to the foil.

Giving volume

If New Year's toys made of round cotton wool are quite voluminous, then in order not to spend a large number of cotton wool, use junk paper. You can take any notebook sheets or napkins, in extreme cases, you can use old newspapers. One sheet is torn off, well crumpled in the hand and a ball or egg shape is formed for the body of some animal. Then the whole thing is wrapped in foil. By squeezing it in the hand, we form the necessary bends of the body. If you need to clearly distinguish between the head and torso, then a simple cotton thread is used. It must be strong so that it does not tear when pulled hard. The thread is wrapped around the body in the place where the neck will be located, and is pulled together until a dent is formed around the circumference. The thread can be tied in a knot and left on the toy made of cotton.

This technology allows you to make three-dimensional figures, such as a snowman or a bear. Let's take a closer look at this manufacturing example.

Snowman

This Christmas tree toy made of cotton wool is voluminous, so we will use the technology presented above. We take a sheet from a notebook and crumple it in our hand, forming an oval shape.

A layer of foil is placed on top and pressed tightly against the lump made. To separate the lower thick ball from the middle one, you need to use a simple thread, passing the foil between them. The second ball needs to be squeezed a little more so that it differs in size from the large one. The preparation is ready. Next, a layer of cotton wool is applied. The roll is wrapped around the workpiece and pressed down by hand. When the entire surface is covered, you need to take a brush and smear it with glue.

Then we set aside the figure to dry, and we ourselves begin work on the head of the snowman. If it is small, then it is enough to twist a lump of cotton wool. If the figure will stand under the Christmas tree on the table, then you will need to repeat the whole process again with junk paper at first. We have small snowmen in the photo, so it will be enough to use only cotton wool. The resulting lump must be put on a plastic film and opened with PVA glue. After the parts have dried, work continues. Another layer of cotton wool is applied, and again everything is smeared with glue.

When the necessary figure is obtained, the parts are fastened together with a toothpick. They insert it into the body, and first smear the top with glue, and then put the head on it.

When the work has dried, you can start decorating toys from cotton wool.

decorating elements

For a snowman, you can make a scarf and a hat. To do this, you need to roll a stick out of cotton between your palms and, after smearing the surface around the neck with glue, attach a scarf. You can arrange it in different ways. Cotton wool is a very pliable material, and glue can fix it in the desired position.
