Good afternoon, if you went to this page, then you need to know all the names of modern shoes ... so that you no longer get confused in its types and have no doubt about the name of what is being worn on you at the moment. Apparently the other day   someone called your loafers an incomprehensible word LOFERS, and sports slippers that faithfully serve you for the second season unexpectedly turned out to be SLIPONS. And you firmly decided to clarify the situation   about the name of all this MODERN SHOES ... In this article I have collected all the names and all kinds of shoes in pictures - now you can confidently distinguish oXFORD DERBY bootsand never confuse LOFERS with SLIPERS.

So, welcome to the world of modern types of shoes and their English names, which are included in the fashionable vocabulary of the Russian people.

We will start with the types of shoes flat shoes... smoothly move on to boots   and all their species ... and finish women's shoes   (yes, the louboutins will also be).

The names that we will disassemble are equally present in both types of women's shoes and men's models. That is - for each variety from the list there are female and male styles. Therefore, today you will learn not only to understand women's shoes, but also in a men's store you will be able to show off erudition.

Types of shoes on a flat sole

(modern shoe names)

We start our list of shoes. All names will be with pictures and explanations of what is the characteristic difference between this species and all others.

The first name is beautiful with the taste of airplanes - ESPADRILY (just like a flying squadron). Let's look closely at this kind of shoe.

Espadrilles are a type of shoe that is distinguished by a wicker sole and natural (often textile) upper material.

Where did that come from - initially the Spaniards came up with these shoes. They wove a sole from rope grass, and the top was made of cheap jute material. Such shoes, by virtue of their naturalness, were pleasant for the feet in hot, stuffy weather. Very quickly, not only the poor Spaniards began to wear these shoes, but the whole glamorous Europe.

The following name of the shoes SLIPPONS also gave soft and comfortable textile slippers. But they are very different from espadrilles, just look at their appearance and find the differences.

Slip on   - these are shoes with soft sports soles from textile. A characteristic feature of slip-ons is a slightly protruding tongue and an eraser next to the tongue. This type of shoe is worn with a sporty look, with jeans of all styles from skinny to boyfriends. Slip-ons of delicate colors also look appropriate with summer dresses of a day style. In the picture below it is highlighted that often this type of shoe is sewn not only from breathable textiles but also from leatherette leather with various fashionable textures (like a snake or crocodile).

Very often, slippers are given the name of another type of shoes SLIPER   (they are really alike). Let's figure out what is the difference between sleepers and slippers.

Sleepers - similar to slipons only tongue shape   - but they differ from them in the first by the absence of a rubber band, and a solid sole (see the picture below). As well as the material from which they are made (sleepers are often made from smooth non-textile materials). Sole   this type of shoes is the same as flat shoes. Spout shape   slightly pointed, with graceful roundness. And in the place where the slippers have a rubber band sewn on the sleepers just empty cut.

Now let's get acquainted with the name of the shoe as LOFERS . Beautiful graceful model of women's shoes and a stylish style of men's shoes under tight pants.

Loafers are easy to distinguish from moccasins and sleepers - all loafers have jumper on the toe   (just on top of the tongue) Loafers are often decorated with tassels or small metal buckles on a jumper strap.

Loafers -originate in Norway of the last century (they were worn as home shoes and had soft soles. Gucci's fashion house brought a new sound to the loafer - they gave the loafers a hard sole and a gold jumper on the toe. The popularity of the loafers was brought from the first consumers - John Kennedy, Grace Kelly , Michael Jackson - how can a mere mortal resist here and not buy a similar type of shoes for himself (even so close to the great ones).

The name MOKASINS is familiar to us since childhood,   and here we consider them only to identify their differences from loafers and boaters. Now we will compare this type of shoe with our brothers in tailoring.

Moccasin   - moccasins are the name of the shoe that the Indians gave us. Moccasins have U-shaped stitched nose with a convex embossed seam. This is a true moccasin cut. Although sometimes a jumper (strip of leather) is sewn over the moccasin’s tongue and then the moccasins already become a sign of loafers ... and the loafers on our feet or loafers arise a contentious issue. That's such fun))) - you can argue and even fight.

The next name of the shoe, which is close in cut to moccasins, is TOPSIDERS   - Most often these are men's shoes, although they are found on women (but rarely).

Dockside   - Boaters in their cut resemble loafers. A distinctive feature of this type of shoe is its sailor color - a decorative lace runs along the upper edge of the shoe. They differ in the cord threaded along the top of the shoe, which serves as a decor (like a cord in the collar of an English sailor).

It's funny that their name in English (docksiders) and in Russian (topsiders) are different. In Russia, they are called boaters by the name of the company Sperry Top-Sider, which they invented in 1935. This type of shoe was especially for sailing yachts - the ribbed sole allows you to not slip on a smooth deck, and the beige or white color of the sole (as opposed to black) leaves no residue on expensive decking.

The next type of shoes MONKEY   more common in men's collections, although female options similar in design also come across fashionable bows. Let's look at this variety of modern shoes.

Monkey   - the type of shoe that distinguishes the presence of a strap with a buckle   - sometimes one, often two at once. The height of the monks is not higher than the ankle (this differs from this type of shoe as KAZAKI)

The name of this type of shoe comes from the English word MONAS "monk". It was the monks in the far XI century who came up with wearing such simple shoes with a fastener in the form of a wide strap and buckle. It was very convenient to take them off and put them on without messing up in shoelaces swollen with dirt. Poor monks didn’t make such shoes of horse, not of their skin, but of rough textiles. And in the modern world, this shoe design is sewn from expensive high-quality smooth glossy leather.

TYPES OF LACE SHOES

(oxford boots, derby shoes, brogues, deserts)

But the kind of shoes that everyone knows - and they are all called OXFORD - once they fell in love with Oxford youth and with their light hands, that is, their legs, became popularized and spread to the whole honest world.

Oxfordsdiffer from all other types of boots similar to them in that Lace up collars are sewn with their lower edges into the cape boot. That is, in fact, the lacing of this type of shoe performs a decorative function, it does not particularly expand the toe when unlacing. By the way, the correct lacing on Oxford boots is considered to be where the lace lines pass through neat parallel strips (and not like in the picture above). The photos below show us that in the modern world, the design of Oxford boots can be the most fantasy and even freakish.

And here are the derby boots   - A type of shoe that is often confused with OXFORD. But they have one very obvious difference.

Wearing Derby Boots sidewalls are sewn over the main part of the bot. And therefore, with the laces untied, these sidewalls can freely bend down (slap like ears). And if you remember in oxfords opposite the sidewalls of the lacing part they are tightly sewn into the cape of the boot and cannot bend down and even hardly move apart. They are less official   than oxfords, and so they can be worn not only with pants but also with jeans and velvet pants, chinos, etc.

You probably noticed that many of the shoes presented have hole punching   for airing your feet in hot weather. For such a holey kind of shoes, a special name was invented - these shoes are called brogues.

Where did the brogue boots come from?- It is believed that this type of shoe has Scottish roots. It was there that Scots suffering from wet boots grazed their cattle in tall and wet grasses. Before the shoes had dried out overnight, it was again necessary to drive the cattle to the pasture and put on nasty raw shoes. That's why the idea came up to make holes in the boots for their quick airing and drying.

Brogues are a type of shoe that is ideal for trousers made of cotton or linen fabric, for chinos, for corduroy pants and sporty elastic pants. As you can see in the picture below, the brogue boots can have the design like oxfods and derby ones.

The next type of shoe from our list is DESSERTS.   They got their name from the word desert. It was these boots that the English military wore in Egypt. Hot sand did not heat the heels due to the thick sole, and soft skin allowed the legs to feel comfortable and comfortable. When the war ended, the remnants of the uniforms went on free sale and fell in love with the entire civilian population of England.

A distinctive feature of DESSERTS is their thickened sole and soft suede leather more often and a very small number of holes for lacing. Women's versions of these shoes are often put on the heel and make a more sophisticated toe.

And in their cut they are very similar to the next type of shoes CHUKKA . In fact, deserts are one of the varieties of Chukka boots. Let's look at this type of boots, very beautiful and concise in its meager ascetic lacing and simplicity of a sleek smooth cut.

CHUKKA boots (or chakka) differ from deserts more free cut range   - it comes in from the higher sides ... and more holes are allowed for lacing - not two but only three. And the material for this type of shoe is no longer required to be suede - even smooth patent leather is only welcome.

KINDS OF HIGH BOOTS

(Chelsea, Timberlands, Dr. Martins, Sneakers)

Now the turn has reached high boots and the first in this list of styles are smooth and minimalistic in their design BELT CHELSI.   They are often found in both male and female types of shoes. I will specially write an article about how to wear such fashionable and insanely comfortable shoes for women.

Chelsea boots   - Chelsea boots do not have any decorative elements on them - no buckles, no laces. They are laconic in their cut and their beauty lies in their pure radiance and impeccable smoothness. They have a side cut on both sides, into which the elastic is inserted, for ease of dressing.

Fashion houses often play with this laconic style of women's shoes, giving it various additions in the form of a heel (as in the photo below) or perforation and a section without gum.

High military-style boots that our people still like to call boots or army boots, in the states they call DOCTOR MARTINS.

Dr. Martens   - this type of shoes is decorated with high lacing to the very top of the shoe. They have a high-quality sole with deep treads, which makes them comfortable shoes for the dirty off-season and slippery winters.

Designers like to play in heavy army boots, introducing Oxford-style shoes into their designs, perforating like Brogues, or thin wedges (see photo below).

Timberland boots TIMBERLANDS - in translation it sounds like the boots of a forester.   They differ from other lace-up shoes just above the ankles and the velvety surface of the material from which they are sewn.

The popularity of these boots brought funny mustard color - this color scheme turned out to be crucial for the popularization of this type of shoe. Now this color is considered the classic color of TIMBERLANDS. A design feature of these boots is their ability to bend outward with their fur.

Well, finally it’s the turn for the chocolate-bitted bitters. SNICKERS - got the name from the word "sneak up" - the soft silent sole of this type of shoe allows you to sneak up inaudibly.

Sneakers look like sports shoes - because of the rubber flexible sole and cut, close to sneakers with Velcro or laces. These shoes were originally used on tennis courts   - and now she was raised to a high platform and even to a wedge heel for lovely ladies who had long dreamed of high heel sneakers.

Here is a journey into the world of names for shoes we made today. Now you feel like an expert in a wide variety of types of shoes ...   and well versed in all kinds of shoes with laces. Now you can instructively comment on fashion articles on fashion blogs and correct the negligent scribblers who called the derby Oxford boots.

And that's not all…

I am inviting you continuation of this article.

After all, we have not finished yet ... we just have to figure it out with types of women's shoes,   Yes, and boots could be built into a strict classification ...

Good luck with your choice of shoes.
Olga Klishevska, specially for the site

Today, we hear such “unusual” and new shoe names as l offers, oxfords, derby, brogues, top siders   and many others. Many types of shoes have appeared recently - they have filled the shelves of stores, fashion editions easily operate with their names. But the head is still confused.

Let's get acquainted with the types of men's and women's shoes, we will understand their names and the purpose for which this or that shoe model is intended.

Types of shoes are divided into several main groups: female and male, summer, winter, autumn, spring, demi-season.

As for the "seasonal" shoes, it is divided into four seasons known to us. Winter shoes You need to choose according to three main points: convenience, strength, stability. Winter shoes are characterized by a durable thick sole, rubberized, which does not slip. Also, winter shoes, for women, for men, should have a warmed insole, on fur or on any other insulation. Winter shoes can be made of genuine leather, faux or suede. The main attribute of winter shoes is a stitched sole, so that the shoes do not get wet and can withstand all severe weather conditions. So snow and ice will be for you for nothing.

Autumn shoes   It is divided into two types of shoes: for late autumn and for early. Autumn shoes can be either slightly insulated or “bare”. Shoes may not have fur, but a warm lining has the right to be present. Autumn shoes can be made of leather or leatherette, varnish, suede, as well as rubber. It is not less important that the autumn shoes were waterproof. To do this, choose shoes also stitched and high soled.

Spring shoes   implies lightness, comfort and convenience. Thus, insole sometimes is completely absent in spring shoes. Spring shoes are usually thin-soled, but they can also be rubberized or stitched for heavy spring rains. The material of spring shoes can be almost any. Leather, varnish, suede, waterproof fabric - all these materials are suitable for the spring season.

When choosing a summer, that is female, that men's shoes, the most important thing to be guided by is comfort. Comfort summer shoes   lies in the naturalness of the material from which the shoes are made. Choose shoes made from natural materials such as bamboo, cotton or linen. So, in the hot summer, your skin of the legs will “breathe”.

Demi-season shoes   includes two periods: autumn-winter and spring-summer. We choose demi-season shoes when it is necessary to smoothly switch from autumn to winter shoes, from winter to spring, and from spring to summer. Demi-season shoes can protect us from slush, dirt, rain, wet snow, etc. These are the shoes that are chosen not specifically by season, but by weather conditions. Therefore, even in the spring we can choose insulated demi-season shoes. Such shoes are most often made of durable materials and soles.

Except seasons shoe classification it is determined by several main criteria and is divided into several groups: household shoes, military, casual shoes, weekend shoes, professional shoes, industrial and orthopedic shoes. Shoes can also be divided into subgroups: shoe model, shoe style, type of shoe and type of shoe.

Orthopedic shoes   It happens, both children’s and adults. Orthopedic shoes are more common among children's shoes, as it positively affects the correct formation of the foot. In orthopedic shoes, there is a relief insole repeating the bends of the foot, and a back that fixes the heel.

Production and professional shoes   - This is work shoes that are intended for one or another kind of profession or specialty. There are no decorative details on this type of shoe. This kind of “working” shoes are made on a thin and comfortable sole. Professional shoes can also include military. Military shoes   consists of durable materials, sturdy lacing and various fasteners.

Household, or   slippers, designed for home or yard. Home slippers are characterized by a soft lining and a thin, easily bendable sole. Filler for shoes for home is a synthetic winterizer or fluff. Outdoor slippers are a bit stronger than home slippers. Unlike slippers for the home, shoes for the yard are made of rubber or other materials that can absorb moisture and dirt.

Each type of shoe has its own name. Often these names came from the English language, so we take the English gradation of types of shoes as a basis.

It is believed that women's shoes should be feminine. By feminine shoes, we mean high-heeled shoes, all kinds of boots and ankle boots. But no one has canceled the fact that women's shoes should be stylish too! A few years ago, we could not imagine that such a daring, brutal, but at the same time beautiful and stylish shoe models would enter the women's wardrobe. Now, some female models of shoes look almost like men's. They are distinguished from each other by a more delicate style, finish and color. These models of women's shoes include: loafers, sleepers, oxfords, derby, brogues, monks, top siders, loafers, espadrilles and slip-ons. All of the listed models of women's shoes are all elements of a men's wardrobe. So, you need to say “thank you” to the fashion and designers of men's shoes that brought such a stylish and, most importantly, comfortable shoe model to the women's wardrobe.

It's no secret that shoes are also selected for a specific case. Thus, shoes are divided into several subgroups: casual, formal, for work, for leisure and for sports. Shoes are one of the main attributes of a female and male image. Therefore, it is not unimportantly correct, and most importantly it is appropriate to wear it.

Women for everyday work image   they can afford to choose stylish loafers, oxfords, sleepers, as well as low-heeled pumps.

For solemn occasions   always prefer high-heeled shoes or platform wedges. Not less important is the material from which the shoes are made. The choice of material should come from the occasion in which you put them on. For the most part this applies to weekend shoes. For example, for some event you can wear shoes made of satin material, velvet, or shoes that are decorated with stones.

As for men, here almost everything is the same as the female half. With the exception of heels, platforms and wedges. Men's shoes   very diverse, it also has several types and names. A man going to work can wear: a model of a derby, oxfords, brogues, monks, loafers.

Under the classic suit, you can safely wear the same oxfords, loafers, derby, etc. The only difference from the everyday work image will be the material of the shoe. Men's weekend shoes can be made of suede, snake skin, python, crocodile or pony.

I want to focus on sports women's and men's shoes. A little early sports shoes were intended only for targeted use. Now sports shoes are one of the most stylish attributes of all fashionistas and women of fashion.

Women's and men's sports shoes are divided into three main groups: sneakers, sneakers and sneakers. If we have some kind of concept and idea about sneakers and sneakers, then I will dwell on sneakers in more detail.

Sneakers - One of the types of sports shoes that reach the ankle and have a small light wedge. One of the brightest representatives of this women's shoes is the famous designer - Isabel Marant. Sneakers are also featured in the collections of Giuseppe Zanotti, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Lanvin and many other designer shoe collections.

What shoes can be worn with sneakers? Sneakers, like sneakers with sneakers, can be safely worn with casual-style clothing. I would like to note that this season is very popular sports style, namely mixed. One example of mixed sports style is to wear cropped dress pants with sneakers or other athletic shoes.

Sneakers from Isabel marant   and Mark jacobs

One of the main criteria by which we choose shoes is the time of year. IN winter period   women can afford to wear shoes with flat, durable and wide soles, or wide heels. These types of shoes include: boots, ankle boots, ugg boots, army boots, low shoes derby, and all that you need to wear in the cold and slippery season. For special occasions you can wear boots or ankle boots with steady heels, as well as over the knee boots.

Chelsea Baggat chelsea | Derby Soft gray derby

Autumn and spring   Women's shoe wardrobe will be complemented by such shoe models as: sleepers, loafers, loafers, oxfords, derby, brogues, ballet shoes   etc. For the fall season, it is best to choose shoes made of durable and waterproof materials, as well as thick soles. Shoes made of suede, varnish, fabric and thin soles are best left in the spring.

Oxfords Jonak oxford | Ballet shoes Tory Burch Ballerina Flats

Summer period   - One of the most beloved female periods. Because you can finally get your favorite heeled sandals, sandals, summer boots, espadrilles, slates   and enjoy some of the most comfortable types of shoes.

Gladiators Givenchy | Espadrilles Christian louboutin

Concerning men's shoes, then she, like women, is divided into different types of shapes, textures, lacing and perforation. Such models of men's shoes as oxfords and derby belong to the group of shoes with lacing. Model derby   has open lacing, and the model oxfords   have a closed lacing. Loafers and Monks   have a smooth surface. Perforated shoe models include oxfords and brogues   - one of the most “decorated” models of men's shoes.

Brogues Fabi brogues

Men's winter shoes, slightly different from women's winter shoes. Winter shoes for men should be warm, stable and thick soles. Fur boots are best chosen from natural material: sheepskin, tsigeyka, goat, etc. These types of men's shoes include: army boots, timberland boots, men's uggs, reddings.

IN autumn spring   period men's shoes take on a more classic look. In the fall, Chelsea boots and desert boots will become indispensable. Spring will be an excellent option so beloved by the male sex. loafers, monks, derby, brogues   etc.

Chelsea Gucci | Loafers Christian louboutin

Summer men's shoes   should be as comfortable as possible and not hot. If in summer women can afford to wear shoes on their bare feet (sandals, shoes with an open cape or toe), then men have frames in this regard. For example, dress code rules do not allow men to wear summer shoes ( slippers, slates, sandals) to work. There is also an alternative to this. Wear shoes like loafers, boat shoes and espadrilles   on the bare foot. Firstly, it will be comfortable and not hot, and secondly, the rules of the dress code will not be violated.

  Moccasins Tod’s Moccasin

And so, we gradually moved on to the topic, what to wear with this or that shoe model?   Of course, in the autumn and winter seasons, the main thing is that outerwear harmoniously combine with shoes. With stylish ladies derby boots, no less stylish trench coatbeige or black or direct coat   the same pastel colors. Winter uggs, both male and female, are best worn with down jacket   some bright color. A fur coat   Will look good with knee-high boots or slightly higher. In spring, having removed the "heavy" outerwear, you can give your preference to cashmere cardigans   or easy raincoatsthat combine with women's loafers, sleepers, oxfords, moccasins, etc.

Men   shoe models such as oxfords, loafers, monks, brogues and derby can safely be worn under classic suit and tie. Models such as top siders, moccasins, deserts, chelsea and redding will suit casual and unobtrusive style - casual. Jeans, a cozy jacket, sweater and polo are the main components of this style. And such models as espadrilles, slip-ons and slates - leave for the summer version that you can wear on the beach with shorts   or to the city with jeans .

Shoes are a business card of both women's and men's wardrobe. Sometimes shoes can say a lot more for you than yourself.

Loafers (from English loafer means "loafer") is a model of shoes without fasteners and laces. The shape of loafers resembles moccasins, but differ in the presence of a stable sole with a small heel. The classical model of loafers has small (often two) brushes, which, in fact, do not carry any function, but are a rather important element of the classical model.

Invented loafers according to all existing legends, the Norwegian shoemaker Nils Gregorusson Tweranger in the twentieth century. He spent his youth in America, learning the art of creating shoes. Nils returned to Norway when he was 20 years old, and then he created the author's model of shoes, which he called "Aurland loafers" (a little later - "Aurland shoes") in honor of the Norwegian city of Eurlans, where he spent his childhood. Shoes liked the local population and quickly became popular. Export went to Europe, where American tourists noticed a convenient model. So the fame of the "Norwegian moccasins" spread throughout the world. Based on this model, already in America, the Spalding family of shoemakers began to create the same shoes, renaming them “loafers”.

Unpretentious shoes reached the peak of popularity in the 1980s, when Guccio Gucci himself confessed his love to loafers (he added the famous metal buckle to them). After that, the loafers became a real “elite” attribute - everyone on Wall Street polled them almost like an element of uniform.

Oxfords

Oxfords (the original name is “balmorals” - was named after the royal castle of Balmoral in Scotland) - low-rise boots, covered with lacing and flat non-rubber sole.

In the 19th century, these shoes were incredibly popular among students at Oxford University. It was this "student" popularity that led the balmorals to a name change. At first, the Oxfords were “tall shoes” without laces, however, students here also contributed by making the shoes shorter and adding lacing (so that the shoes do not fall off their feet). Most often, oxfords are sewn without perforation and presented in classic brown-black tones.

What is closed lacing? This is a certain type of lacing, where the vamp (the front of the shoe, the leather patch on the toe) is sewn on top of the berets (directly on the surface of the boot) - in contrast to the derby. That is, the two sides (berets), tied with a lace, are sewn under the front of the boot (vamp) and close over the tongue, sewn from below, under the lacing. The side parts, the so-called berets, are sewn to the front of the shoe in the form of the letter "V".

Derby

Derby - shoes with an open lacing, in which berets are sewn on top of a vamp. Simply put, the sides are sewn over the front of the shoe, so when the laces are untied, the sidewalls diverge freely. Most often come with perforations.

Brogues

Brogues - shoes with perforation. They can be either with open lacing or closed. A characteristic feature is a detachable V-shaped toe.

In the 17th century, booking (punching holes in the skin) was used by Irish farmers, who often worked in marshlands. Perforated holes in the brog allowed quick removal of water from the boots and contributed to the rapid ventilation of the foot. Over time, people began to wear brogues of different walks of life, including the elite. A little later, in the 20th century, this shoe model gained unprecedented popularity among men when the Prince of Wales, Edward, began to be published only in brogues. By the way, it was at his request that a cut-out toe (in the shape of the letter W) was made at these shoes, along the seam of which perforations were located - an element that made brogues popular.

Chelsea

Chelsea are ankle-high leather shoes with a thin sole, slightly pointed and slightly rounded toe. A distinctive feature of this type of shoe is rubber inserts on the sides along the entire height of the shoe. History is silent and does not reveal the secret of the one who created this shoe model, but the hypothesis hints at the direct connection of these shoes with one of the London districts - Chelsea. It is known that shoes were at the peak of popularity in the 1960s and 70s.

If, instead of rubber inserts, there is lightning (on the side, often from two sides), then the shoes are called beatle. The name, no matter how difficult it is to notice, is consonant with the popular group The Beatles, whose members wore these shoes almost without taking off. Interesting fact: many believe that love for Chelsea is the only thing that united the Beatles with their implacable rivals The Rolling Stones.

Monkey

Monks are “monastic” boots. This model is characterized by a smooth surface and upper lap leather with a buckle. Most often, monk is sewn without zipper and lacing. The design rests, roughly speaking, on buckles fastened with an overlap over the berets. Thanks to this fastener, the monks are quite practical.

The word monk is translated as "monk." According to legend, it was the representatives of the clergy who were the first to wear these super-comfortable shoes. It was, however, in the distant XII century, and shoes were made of textiles, and not of leather. Since the monks did not want and did not like to spend a lot of time fastening their shoes, such a special, quick-to-use model was created especially for them. The classic look of monks on one strap is quite popular now. Brown is considered to be the most popular color, but monks of black or dark blue shades are often present in fashion.

Ballet shoes

Ballet Flats are our favorite classic model of flat shoes or with a small steady heel and a closed toe. Ballet shoes got their name for their similarity with professional shoes in ballet, that is, directly for their similarity with pointe shoes.

Even in the XVI century there was a shoe of such a plan, which was worn by both representatives of male and female noble origin. In the XVII-XVIII century, these shoes acquired a small heel, but at the same time they remained incredibly stable and comfortable for everyday wear. And finally, in the 19th century, the shoe maker Salvatore Capecio created the famous “ballet shoes”. Following historical facts, Salvatore has been producing shoes for ballerinas since 1887 and suddenly thought about the idea of \u200b\u200bcreating shoes for ordinary women - an everyday comfortable model that will allow a woman to feel free and comfortable.

Ballet shoes gained worldwide popularity after they appeared on the cover of the American magazine Vogue in 1949.

Mary Jane

“Mary Jane” is a model of flat shoes with a strap on the rise and a rounded toe. Typically, with this model the heel reaches a maximum of 7 cm, but nowadays you can also find shoes at a height of 10 cm. Although, in fact, the only condition for the heel of the Mary Jane model is to be stable. After all, back in the 1930s, shoes were created for crazy dancing, and not for a quiet walk through the streets. Naturally, shoes for such a "dance" activity should not have flown off his feet, which is why such a steady, not rickety heel was invented.

A little later, the era of stilettos and fanciful heels reigned in the fashion world, and already in the 1960s, at the peak of popularity, there were again comfortable and elegant Mary Jane. It was a prototype of the kind of children's shoes that every girl of that time wanted - and no wonder, because Twiggy herself was engaged in the promotion of these shoes. Even later, in the 90s, Courtney Love began to wear them, which again gave the shoes another wave of popularity.

By the way, the shoes owe their name to the heroine of the English comic book “Buster Brown” - the girl Mary Jane, who wore such shoes.

Slip on

Slip-ons are lightweight sneakers without lacing, consisting of the upper part of canvas and rubber soles. The history of slip-ons dates back to 1977, when shoe maker Paul Van Doren, the founder of Vans, presented his new creation to the public. Slip-ons immediately began to be in demand among surfers and skaters, and after the release of the film “Quick Changes at Ridgemont High School” in 1982, in which the main character-surfer (by the way, Sean Penn) wore only slip-ons in the frame, he found much wider popularity.

Now slip-ons have conquered not only the world of sports and everyday exits to the store, but also the designer world of high fashion. Often Valentino, Saint Laurent, Alexander Wang, etc. are played with slip-ons in their collections. The simple design, the “breathable” sole, the absence of any laces and zippers, as well as the rather low price made “surfer shoes” a real fashion hit.
