Spiral potholder

This incredibly cute pot holder is super easy to make. The whole principle of its creation is in the sequence of knitting in a single circular row with four colors at once. The only difficulty: too much time is spent putting markers on and taking them off. That is, while you are knitting in one color, working loops of other colors are open. To prevent them from unraveling, you need to thread the blocking marker each time and, accordingly, remove it later. But there is simply no other way to knit spiral potholders.

However, the thing itself is small, so you can “suffer” a little. And if your friends know how to appreciate such handmade beauty, they will clearly applaud your skill, because not everyone can knit such a pattern. At least until he finds out all the secrets that you will now become acquainted with.

Rings (for crocheting) can serve as markers; they are the easiest to work with. But you can get by with the usual pins or paper clips.

Such potholders are knitted with your own hands using cotton yarn, because it holds its shape remarkably well, does not slip in your hands, and retains its color for a very long time (and this is very important for an item that will often be washed).

100% cotton yarn (5 adjacent colors, 200 m / 100 g)

Description of knitting

We knit both the front and back sides of the potholder in the same way.

We make a magic ring with red thread. We knit a ring in color A (1 ch, 1 sc, 1 hdc, 2 dc). Remove the loop from the hook and put a marker on it. We join new thread, repeat knitting according to the same principle (and so on with each new color).

First row. Remove the marker. With color A we work in columns of color B: 2 dc from one loop, 1 dc in the next loop. We repeat each color in a circle. Makes 6 dc in all colors.

Second row. Color A: 2 Dc from one loop, 1 Dc. And so we knit 3 times, repeating with each color. Makes 9 dc in each color.

Third row. Color A: 2 Dc from one loop, 2 Dc. Three times, with each color in a circle. Makes 12 dc in each color.

Fourth row. A: 2 Dn, 3 Dn -//-, it turns out 15 Dn.

Fifth row. A: 2 Dc, 4 Dc. -//-, it turns out 18 Dc.

Sixth row. A: 2 Dc, 5 Dc. -//-, will come out - 21 Sn.

Seventh row. A: 2 Dc, 6 Dc. -//-, will come out - 24 Sn.

Eighth row. Continue with color D for rounding: 3 hdc, 2 sc. Tighten and cut the thread.

Color C: 2 Dc from one loop, 6 Dc. We knit like this 2 times, 3 hdc, 2 dc, tighten, cut off the thread.

Color B: 2 Dc from one loop, 6 Dc. We knit this way 4 times, 3 hdc, 2 dc, tighten, cut off the thread.

Color A: 2 Dc from one loop, 6 Dc. We knit this way 6 times. 3 hdc, 2 dc, tighten, cut the thread.

We knit the reverse side the same way.

We continue crocheting potholders, the work is nearing completion. The initial ring must be tightened so that the circle does not become deformed. We hide the ends. We fold the two parts of the potholder inside out. Both parts need to be tied together with color E: Ss in any column, connecting 2 circles. PSN in the same column, PSN in a circle - the hook is inserted into the loops of the two parts. As soon as the last stitch is knitted, we do not break the thread, but make a loop.

Here's how to make a loop: 8 ch, ss - in the first stitch of the binding, 2 ch, make a turn. 16 hdc in the arch of 8 ch, dc in the last stitch of the binding. Tighten well, cut the thread, hide the ends.
