How much rest do we have for the May holidays in 2019?
The May holidays this year will last nine days, although with a break. There will be days off from May 1 to May 5 (Spring and Labor Day plus the postponement of three “non-stop” weekends from January 5 and 6, as well as from February 23) and from 9 to 12 May in connection with the celebration Victory Day.
Thus, the first working week of late April - early May will last two days; in the second week of May there will be only three working days. Pre-holiday days- April 30 and May 8 will be shorter by an hour.
How not to lose money due to long holidays
There is one important one here underwater rock which many people don't know about. In order not to lose money, it is not recommended to take vacations during months when there are many days off. This is January and May.
For example, this May there are only 18 working days. Divide your salary by 18 and you get the "cost" of one working day, which is higher than in other months. It is this increased cost, multiplied by the number of vacation days, that you will receive less in your salary. This applies to both paid and unpaid leave.
For example, if you took the days between the May holidays at your own expense, you missed out on a substantial amount, which could reach up to 22% of your earnings.
If you decide to take paid leave in May, there will also be losses. Income for May will consist of two parts: salary and vacation pay. Vacation pay is calculated on the basis of average earnings: income for the year (12 salaries plus all payments) divided by 12 months and 29.3 (calendar average number of days).
You will receive your salary for May not on calendar days, but on working days. Holidays will be excluded from the calculation. Accordingly, you will lose a significant amount of money, the losses will depend on the duration of the vacation.
When is the best time to take a vacation?
It is most profitable to take a vacation in the months when the number of working days exceeds 20. The most profitable month for a vacation is August, it has the most working days and, accordingly, the cheapest cost of one working day.
However, all these calculations are correct if you receive only a salary without bonuses and any additional payments, and also if you did not take sick leave and were not on a business trip. In these cases, calculations are done differently, according to a more complex scheme.
In general, the principle is this: it is more profitable to take a vacation, taking weekends and not touching non-working holidays.
Let us repeat: vacation pay is calculated based on calendar days, not working days. That is, if you decide to take a vacation, say, from Monday to Thursday, which you would have worked, then your vacation pay will be calculated for these four days. And if from Monday to Sunday, then your vacation pay will be calculated for seven days, although your salary would be paid for five.
With non-working holidays the calculation is done differently. According to the Labor Code, their number does not affect the size of your salary, except when you take a vacation. But, if you take a vacation, then holidays (unlike regular weekends) will be excluded from those days for which vacation pay is accrued. That is, if you decide to take a vacation, for example, from April 22 until the end of the May holidays, it is more profitable to write two applications: one for the period until May 1, the second - from May 6 to 8.
Conclusion: in January and May, it is not profitable to take paid vacation, as well as days at your own expense, unless you are counting on a large bonus.
