Today we will prepare for the next project. One of the most interesting, in my opinion. It is asked to children as part of the “World around us” course. This is an elementary school project on the topic of Family, it mainly appears in the first grade.
In the workbooks on “The World Around us” when studying under the “” program, there are special pages dedicated to this topic. You can, of course, take the simple route and simply paste photographs onto these pages and come up with captions for them. Or you can do more serious work, which both the teacher and classmates will surely appreciate.

Where to begin?
How should we approach the project called “My Family”? Where to begin? I propose to start by dividing our future project into parts:
- introductory;
- main;
- final;
- practical.
And now let’s look at what exactly can be placed in each of these parts.
Introductory part
It in turn can be divided into the following points:
- justification of the significance of the project;
- setting goals and objectives (after all, we are doing this project for a reason);
- disclosure of sources of information that the student is going to use while working.
Justification of the significance of the project
How can you justify the significance of the “My Family” project?
Modern children do not know their family history well. Often they don’t even know their parents’ middle names. But family is the foundation! Just as a plant cannot exist normally without soil, so a person cannot exist without a family. Family is the history of a person! And a person who does not know his history has no future.
So much for significance! So much for the importance of the topic under study!
Setting goals and objectives
Let's set ourselves the following tasks:
- Find out the meaning of the word family, its origin.
- Find out the surnames, first names and patronymics, as well as dates and places of birth, place of residence, occupation of your relatives up to the third generation (that is, let's go deeper to great-grandmothers and great-grandfathers).
- Create your own family tree (by the way, this will be the practical part).
Information sources
This is exactly what we say here:
“When working on the project, I used the following sources of information:
- family albums;
- family archives (old letters, maybe some documents have been preserved or something else interesting);
- stories from relatives;
- Internet;
- books (magazines, newspapers)".
That's all the introductory part, let's move on to the main part.
Main part
Let's look at our goals, which we outlined just above.
Goal one: find out the origin of the word family.
This is what we will do now. In order to attract the attention of listeners, you can invite them to solve a puzzle, for example, this one.
The rebus is simple. Everyone will immediately say in unison that the word “family” is encrypted. And this is exactly what we expected. Here we say: “That's right, family! Do you know what a family is, and where this word came from?" Let the listeners give several of their options. Well, then we will tell them the whole truth about this word.
You will find the whole truth in a special article dedicated to the word “family”.
Well, now let’s move directly to our dear relatives.
The main thing here is not to overdo it. It is important to remember that a lesson at school is not rubber, that time is limited, and that brevity is the sister of talent.
The best place to start is with yourself. For example, like this:
My name is Klimkovich Artem Denisovich. I was born on November 15, 2008 in the city of Ukhta in the Komi Republic, I lived there for 3 years, and then moved to Lipetsk with my parents. Now we live here. I am in first grade and am passionate about swimming.
If the student has brothers and sisters, then you can also talk about them. Well, then we go down one level in our family tree and tell:
- about dad and mom;
- then about two grandmothers and two grandfathers;
- and then about four great-grandmothers and four great-grandfathers.
In total, in the project we will tell about fourteen of our relatives, not counting our brothers and sisters. So try to be brief, because even if you devote just one minute to one person, the project will already take 15 minutes, if not more.
Final part
The final part should contain a conclusion.
The output could be like this:
Thanks to working on the project, I learned a lot of interesting things about the history of my family and learned the names of my ancestors. I'm very big family and now I know that in Hard time My close people will definitely help me, and I will definitely help them. And someday I will be able to tell my children and grandchildren about my great-grandparents. So that the connection between times is not interrupted.
If in the process of searching for information any Interesting Facts, which connect the student with his ancestors, then they can also be included in the conclusion. What facts could these be? Well, for example:
My great-grandfather Vasily Ivanovich was born exactly 100 years earlier than me.
I am very similar in appearance to my great-grandmother Maria Ilyinichna.
In our family, besides me, there are three more left-handers. This is my grandmother Galina Vasilievna, grandfather Gennady Ivanovich and great-grandfather Semyon Fedorovich.
Practical part
The practical part involves making something that will help visualize and visually support the student’s story. You can, for example, make an album in which you paste photographs of relatives and write short stories about them. Then, while defending the project in front of the class, the student will be able to turn the pages, showing photographs to the audience.
But you and I are aiming for something more interesting! For the purposes of the project, we wrote down: making a family tree. Remember? For example, like this:
This is a poster - a craft. This tree is notable for the fact that the leaves on which photographs of family members are glued can be removed from the tree. And then, during a speech in front of the class, the student will be able to gradually glue these leaves to the tree. And the family tree will grow right before the eyes of his classmates. And this is much more interesting! Do you agree?
It is written in great detail about how to make such a craft poster. True, in this example the family tree was made only up to the 2nd generation, but you can continue it to the level to which you need.
And I would like to say separately about the photographs. It's a shame to cut up old photographs. After all, they are in a single copy. A real rarity! But there is a way out; you can convert these old photographs into electronic form using a scanner. And then print it out and use it to make wood.
What else can you add to the work?
An excellent and interesting addition to the project would be a display of some family heirlooms. For example, you can bring with you and show the class a napkin that your great-grandmother knitted and that is over 80 years old. Or the medals that your great-grandfather was awarded for his participation in the Great Patriotic War.
But just remember, these are real heirlooms, your family treasures, so you have no right to lose them or break them!
A beautiful poem will also be an appropriate creative addition to your work. You will find a couple of such works in the video below.
