Beading for beginners American tourniquet. Bead harness - weaving pattern. A small workshop for beginners

The main types of harnesses from beads

Today we will talk about what types of harnesses from beads are and tell us how the patterns of their weaving differ.

To begin with, I would like to note that the bead cord is a hollow cord that can be made with openwork or tight weaving. Moreover, according to the technique of execution, it can be knitted (a thread and a hook are used) and wicker (a fishing line and a needle are used).

Many years ago, the first bundles were woven from threads, stringing beads on them. First, wide flat ribbons were made, and then they were sewn into a hollow bundle. Over time, this technique has undergone changes, and now the decoration is woven from a single thread or fishing line (although stitching is still used in some patterns).

By types, the plaits are: mosaic, openwork, square, Turkish, twisted, shaggy and also distinguish ndbele plaits.

As a rule, such materials are used for weaving such as: fishing line of a certain thickness (must correspond to the size of the inner holes of the beads), beads, bead needles, round-nose pliers, scissors, wire cutters and bijouterie accessories. The latter is needed in order to hide the knots from the fishing line and make a beautiful fastener (for example, a hug, callota, connecting rings, a carbine).

Mosaic tourniquet

A mosaic tourniquet is one of the most common, since its execution scheme is quite simple. It is weaved from an odd number of beads. There may be 5, 7, 9 or even more, but it is better to take a smaller amount, so the decoration will be more accurate.

Tip:  during weaving (whatever the types of beaded tows) it is necessary to ensure that the product is dense and at the same time plastic. To do this, you need to learn how to weave with the same thread tension along the entire length of the jewelry.

Weaving pattern. As we have said, there is nothing complicated in it.

1.   It all starts with the fact that the required number of beads is strung on the fishing line, say 7th. Then they close in a ring (the free end of the fishing line stretches through the first bead). At the same time, at the base of the product, 15 centimeters of free fishing line must be left, which will then be needed to secure the harness. The first row is ready.

2. The second row is woven mosaic. That is, now after stringing each new bead, fishing line or thread is passed through one bead of the first row. First it will be the 3rd, then the 5th and 7th.

3.   And the third row is made so that the fishing line stretches through each bead of the second row. That is, her needle must be inserted through the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and so on beads until the current row is over. Further, everything is done as well. The fourth row is a mosaic, the fifth is continuous weaving.

4.   When you get a tourniquet of the desired length, its ends are fixed. They are either weaved together, or, using special accessories, make a fastener.

As a result of such weaving, an ornament with a rather dense structure should be obtained.

Openwork harness

This type of tourniquet differs from the previous one in that it has an openwork pattern and weaves a little differently. It can be quite wide in section and consist of an even or odd number of beads. For example, there may be 11 or 14 pieces. It all depends on personal preferences and the specific method of implementation.

Tip:to make such a tourniquet “softer” it is worth making larger gaps in weaving. And for this you need to dial only an odd number of beads.

Weaving pattern. To make it clear to everyone how to make an openwork tourniquet, consider a specific example.

1.   The first row is formed of 4 beads of the same size, strung one after another and woven into a ringlet.

2. The second row is formed as follows: three new beads are collected on a fishing line, and the needle penetrates through three subsequent beads of the first row. That is, the 2nd, 3rd and 4th are skipped, and the fishing line penetrates into the 5th. Thus, the entire first row is braided (then the needle passes through the 9th and 13th beads).

3.   The third row is braided in the same way through three beads with fastening in the 4th.

Similar plaits can be used not only to create jewelry, but also for decorative braiding of vases, decanters and other products.

Square tourniquet

Unlike the two previous ones, a square bundle is woven in a more complex pattern, and outwardly differs significantly. Since it is called square, the principle of its creation lies in weaving the bottom, four sides and top.

Tip:  so that the square turns out to be of the correct shape, it is desirable to make such bundles of beads of the same size.

Weaving pattern. The general scheme of weaving this bundle is a little difficult, but it is only at first glance, as soon as the first cube is formed, everything will immediately become clear.

1.   To begin with, four beads are strung on a thread and fasten them into a kind of square.

2. Then, three more new beads are recruited and the needle is threaded through one bead from the beginning of the row (i.e., in the 3rd). Then they pick up three more and again pass the needle through the second bead from the thread (1st). This results in two cube walls.

3. Now, to raise them, the thread is passed through the adjacent bead (5th) and, having strung only one bead, the thread is pulled through the central bead of one of the sides of the cube (the one with the number 9 in the figure).

4.   To complete the cube, another bead is stringed onto the thread and the needle is pierced through the central bead of the opposite wall (number 6). By tightening the thread, you can see the finished cube.

The result is a fairly dense tourniquet that can be varied in many ways. For example, on top of it you can weave a row of beads of a contrasting color or combine it with their help with another square tourniquet.

Turkish tourniquetmade with a hook. Beads with glass beads are strung on the thread, and then weaving is performed according to a specific pattern. The result is a pretty beautiful decoration with an original pattern.

Twisted harness

To create it, you only need a thread and a needle. It has a relief, spiral structure, and therefore compares favorably with all the others.

Weaving pattern. In fact, there may be several patterns of weaving. But we will talk about one, which can be called the main one.

1.   The example uses two colors of beads, which allows you to clearly see the twisted pattern. First, 7 beads are strung on the thread - 4 black and 3 purple. A loop is then made by threading the needle through four black beads at a time.

2.   Now another 4 new beads are planted on the thread - 3 purple and 1 black. This time, the needle is again drawn through the black beads, only not after 4, but after 3 with a shift up. To fix the loop, the needle is drawn through 1 black bead, which has just been added to the overall pattern.

Many women simply cannot resist the elegant accessory called a bead cord. Such decoration can be done independently. Moreover, if desired, you can make several bundles of various colors and shapes. Thanks to this, they can be combined with different clothes and always look amazing.

What you need to weave a tourniquet

Considering how to weave harnesses from beads, it is necessary, first of all, to stock up with the materials necessary for work. The main thing is beads of the right size and color. You should not save on beads - high-quality beads will look beautiful and bright in the product.

Strong strings or fishing lines, bead needles, pins, and clasps are also required to create a necklace or bracelet.

A bracelet made of quality beads will look beautiful and expensive.

How to weave classic beaded tows

One of the options for weaving is performed by the weaving method that is usual for many needlewomen - stringing beads on a needle and weaving in a special order. There is a scheme of a bead cord, which will allow you to easily and simply do the work in plain and different colors.

  1. First you need to sequentially string 4 beads, and then draw the needle again through the first bead.
  2. Then it is necessary to string three more beads, after which - draw the needle through the third bead in the first circle.
  3. After that, three more beads are strung, and the needle is passed through the first bead of the second circle.
  4. Having strung two beads, we balance the edges of the tourniquet.
  5. Then again we string three beads and then weave by analogy.

It is very easy to be guided by the given scheme, since it is precisely indicated how many beads need to be collected and through which account the needle should be drawn.

How to weave a crocheted harness from beads

There is one more option. Beads as well as in the previous version need to be strung on monofilament or fishing line. Only in the bundle, the thread with the beads is connected not with a needle, but with a hook.

  1. First of all, a knot is made on the thread so that the work does not untie. Then the bead is strung, and you need to grab the thread with a crochet to hold it in the formed loop - this is how the air loop is made.
  2. When a chain of air loops of the desired length is made, they should be connected in a circle, and then go to another stage of knitting - knitting the crochets. To do this, you need to have one loop on the hook, and stretch another loop from the adjacent air loop. Then the free working thread must be pulled through both of these loops. And so continue to perform single crochet.

The main thing in such knitting is to observe the uniformity of stringing beads. That is, it is necessary not to accumulate all the beads in one place and not to knit with a single thread without beads. That is, one bead should be crocheted at each step.

How to decode weaving patterns with ornament

You can weave incredibly beautiful harnesses with all kinds of ornaments. To do this, you must be able to decipher the weaving patterns of such tows.

The scheme of weaving a plait of beads (continue weaving)

Consider this in the picture, where the main points are highlighted in red:

  • the number 9 means the number of beads from which the circle will be strung,
  • the number 296 means the number of beads in the rapport, that is, the number of beads in the repeating segment of the pattern, due to this you can calculate the right amount of beads for work,
  • in each of the 7 columns in the diagram there are multi-colored squares with numbers. The numbers indicate the number of beads of a certain color for weaving,
  • beads are collected in horizontal rows from top to bottom and from left to right in the first row, and then from right to left in the second and so it alternates to the end.

I hope I have made the material clear enough. There will be questions - ask in the comments to the article!

Having mastered a little with mosaic weaving, I decided to continue making bead jewelry using this technique.

If you remember, I already have a sodalite braided and beaded cabochon ready, and I even made a bead loop for it using the mosaic weaving technique, so that the braided cabochon turned into a bead pendant.

Now it remains to figure out what to hang the pendant from beads with a cabochon so that it can be worn like a necklace.

In search of master classes and patterns on mosaic weaving from beads, I often met instructions for making a bead cord. Moreover, it turned out that the cord from beads, or as it is also called a “tourniquet”, can be weaved or crocheted.

Although the crochet of the thread was crocheted with beads strung on it, although it bribed with its reliability, it did not arouse enthusiasm: I always resort to the hook in extreme cases. Therefore, it is one thing to crochet the edge of a knitted children's scarf with knitting needles, or, say, to connect with the help of a hook the loops of an openwork beret knitted with needles. And quite another - to knit a bead cord without the skill of crocheting.

I mention this method of making a bead cord only because to someone this option may seem easier and more affordable than weaving a string of beads using a needle. You will find a video on crocheting a bead tow at the end of the post.

And now it's time to figure out

How to weave a mosaic bead rope

The simplest and most common version of a mosaic bead tow is mosaic tourniquet braided in a circle (transverse weaving). Such a tourniquet is very dense and at the same time quite elastic.

To weave a mosaic tourniquet and create a bead necklace based on it, I need:

  • czech Preciosa 10/0 beads (brilliant pale blue and transparent dark blue)
  • fishing line 0.25 mm thick
  • needle for beads
  • scissors
  • tweezers
  • lighter
  • thick white shoe thread
  • wire cutters
  • pliers
  • silver bijouterie accessories (2 pins, 2 caps and a magnetic lock)

For clarity, enclose

pattern of transverse weaving of a mosaic tow of beads in a circle on 7 beads

Workshop on weaving mosaic bead rope

1 row (Fig. 1): I string 7 beads on a fishing line: 2 blue, 1 blue and 4 blue (To weave a mosaic bundle in a circle, you can collect any odd number of beads, starting from 5, depending on the desired thickness of the finished bundle)

I stretch the line through the entire first row of beads.

I close the fishing line into the ring, leaving a free end 15 cm long.

2 row (Fig. 2): I stretch the line through the first (blue) bead of the first row and string one blue bead on it.

Again, I pass one bead of the first row and stretch the line through the fifth (blue) bead of the first row.

I stretch the line through the last seventh bead of the first row.

3 row (Fig. 3): I string one blue bead onto a fishing line. I stretch the line through the first (blue) bead of the second row and again string one blue bead onto the line.

I stretch the line through the second (blue) bead of the second row and string one blue bead on it.

Pattern: To get a spiral pattern of dark blue beads on a blue background in each new row, when removing the needle from the blue bead, I string the blue bead onto the fishing line and, accordingly, when removing the needle from the blue bead, I string the blue bead.

I continue weaving the mosaic tow according to the pattern until the desired length is reached.

At a certain stage of work on weaving a mosaic bundle, you may have a logical question:

How to fix and grow a fishing line or thread when weaving from beads?

It was for these purposes that I prepared thin tweezers and a lighter.

If you see that the line or thread when weaving with beads ends, and it is not enough to finish weaving, you must leave a free end 10-12 cm long.

To add a new piece of fishing line, you need to tie it to the working line from the inside of the tourniquet, making several knots between previously strung beads and stretching a new line through the strung beads.

After both pieces of fishing line are connected and fixed, the remaining ends need to be cut, but not under the knot itself, but leaving small ponytails, 0.5-0.7 cm long, and then melt them with a lighter, holding clamps with tweezers first so that Do not damage the nodules and do not stain the beads.

When the spiral mosaic tourniquet of the required length is gossiped, I stretch a thick shoe thread through it to prevent excessive stretching of the fishing line under the weight of a bead pendant.

By the way, I accidentally found just such a scheme that displays what a finished necklace, beads or necklace will look like when wearing it:

The remaining on the ends of the braided bundle, I pull the tails of the fishing line and the ends of the shoe thread through the loops of the bijouterie pins, fix it, melt it with a lighter and stretch it inside the bead bundle.

I string a bijouterie cap on each pin.

I shorten the pins to the required length. With round-nose pliers, I bend the free ends of the pins into loops. I attach a half of a magnetic fastener to each eyelet.

Now it remains only to hang a pendant from a cabochon braided with beads on a ready mosaic beaded tourniquet. And here is the result - a simple but quite effective bead necklace:

And now the promised video workshop on crocheting a bead cord. Knowledge of English is not necessary - the video was shot in close-up, extremely detailed and understandable.

Workshop on creating a Turkish tourniquet

For beginners in needlework, a detailed step-by-step master class has been prepared, thanks to which the new masters will create their first masterpiece.

Photo illustrations Step-by-step instruction

Before you start creating a Turkish cord, you need to prepare the basis for knitting. To do this, take the prepared thread and string on it the necessary elements, consisting of four beads and one bugle. The set of fragments alternates until two meters are typed. It is better to collect a little more material, because in the process of working, it is difficult to tie a tourniquet, since it can easily dissolve. Collect the amount, trying on the bugles.

You can string using a needle or the glued end of the thread.

Having prepared the thread for knitting, we take a hook in our right hand, and with our left hand we make an air loop at the end of the thread, carefully pulling it together until a knot is formed. We move the first set of elements to the instrument: four beads and one bugle. It is in this sequence that it will be more convenient to knit.

We form an air loop, including beads and bugles.

We push the next set of beads and repeat the previous steps. We create a classic Turkish cord, consisting of three loops. Therefore, we form the third air loop from the next set.

At this stage, you need to carefully perform knitting so as not to disrupt the order of the knitting process. We take the hook and insert it into the central part of the first loop of the first set, placing the tool between bead and glass beads.

We move four beads and one bugle closer to the knitting tool, capturing the thread over the elements of the tool. Next, draw it through two loops, and again grab the thread by hook, passing through the loop located on the instrument.

The previously performed manipulations, we continue to repeat by capturing the second loop, then the third, thus moving upward in a spiral.

Having connected the necessary length of the product, we form a reliable knot closer to the elements. Cut the remaining thread with scissors. At the ends of the formed product we fix special tips for necklaces (bracelets). Through a cord and a tip we pass a small piece of wire, which is securely fixed at the end of the craft. Pass the tip of the wire into the tip and bend the upper edge into a small connecting ring using pliers.

We fix the lock to the connecting ring. Unusual beauty decoration is ready.

As a result of painstaking and focused creative work, a luxurious necklace was created that perfectly fits the women's evening outfit. Having understood the principle of weaving an unusual tourniquet, needlewomen can create unique products, guided by personal imagination. For example, instead of glass beads, you can use beads in the form of rice, choosing the desired bright colors. See below photo illustration.

It is possible to weave multi-colored instead of glassy elements. Accessories made using this method also look beautiful and extraordinary. See the photos below.

Such a tourniquet will not go unnoticed and will attract the enthusiastic glances of the people around.

A magnificent beadwork is suitable as an expensive gift to a close friend or family, who will be able to appreciate the craftsmanship of a needlewoman.
