DIY postcards: ideas for creativity

It's safe to say that You can express all your creativity in a homemade card and make any fantasy come true.

Before starting work, it is important to make full preparation for work:

  • Purchase all decorative elements in the required quantities (to create a postcard).
  • Have scissors, a ruler, and be sure to have rubber glue to attach each decorative element (you can also use a hot gun and instant-drying glue).
  • Imagine in advance what your card should look like: draw a sketch of it on a draft or make a template by laying one material on top of another.

IMPORTANT: You should work very carefully, because if you leave a daub of glue, it will dry out and ruin appearance your product.

The simplest ideas for creating cards with your own hands:

You can make a spectacular card for any holiday from craft cardboard, colored paper and woolen threads. First you need to decide for yourself exactly what your postcard will look like. There are several options:

  • Postcard book
  • Postcard-leaflet
  • Postcard in an envelope
  • Square postcard
  • Rectangular postcard
  • Figured postcard
  • Miniature postcard
  • Card with ties
  • Money card
  • Large postcard (A4 format)

IMPORTANT: A simple postcard-leaflet in an envelope looks impressive. The envelope will help it preserve for a long time and will not damage the decor.

Per sheet white thick cardboard(base) you should glue a background made of craft paper (the size of the piece should be half a centimeter smaller than the base of the card). The best way to glue paper is dry glue(glue stick) so as not to leave wet marks and prevent the paper from taking an irregular shape.

Once the background is ready, stick it on it several wool threads- these are “balloon strings”. After this, cut out from colored paper several hearts. Hearts can be bent in half. After that coat only the fold and glue it to the upper end of the woolen thread. Use a red piece of construction paper to make an envelope to hold the card. The product is ready, all that remains is to sign.

Using a simple pencil, draw a shape or design on the cardboard: a heart, a ball, a Christmas tree (whatever).

If necessary, a ready-made sketch point with a liner(thin felt-tip pen) and only then carefully glue the buttons onto the card. Wait for the glue to dry completely and continue designing: write wishes, attach another pattern or draw.

Video: “5 postcards in 5 minutes”

An ordinary postcard will not surprise anyone. That's why I had the idea to make a 3D card with flowers. It’s not difficult to make, but it looks unusual and interesting. This card will be remembered for a long time.

To make a postcard we will need:
- a sheet of double-sided colored cardboard (card base) of any color;
- double-sided colored paper (for flowers) of any color;
- pencil glue;
- scissors;
- pencil;
- felt-tip pens.
Step 1. Cut out 7 10x10 cm squares from double-sided colored paper.

Step 2. Fold the square 3 times to form a triangle.

Step 3. Draw a petal.

Step 4. Cut and open.

Step 5. In this way we make all 7 flowers.

Step 7. Using a blue and blue felt-tip pen, draw small strokes from the middle, also along the edges of the flower. We leave two petals uncolored!

Step 8. Also color the remaining 7 flowers.

Step 9. Cut out one of the unpainted petals. We do the same with the rest of the flowers.

Step 10. Coat the remaining unpainted petal with glue and connect it to the adjacent petal. It should be voluminous. We do all the other flowers the same way.

Step 11. Take 3 flowers. We bend each flower in half. We mark crosses on one of the flowers. We coat the places marked with a cross with glue and glue the other 2 flowers bent in half there.

Step 12. Coat the places marked with a cross with glue and glue another flower bent in half.

Step 13. Place the crosses again, coat these places with glue and glue 2 more flowers, bent in half.

Step 14. Place the crosses again, coat with glue and glue one flower bent in half.

This type of needlework is not yet as famous as Japanese origami (although it is a variety of it), but it has more and more fans. It's called Pop-Up, or kirigami, and in Russian it's simply voluminous postcards. Unlike origami, not only paper folding is allowed here, but also the use of a knife to cut parts. This is a wonderful gift for family and friends for any occasion, especially if you make a voluminous card with your own hands.

Master class on making a three-dimensional postcard “Heart”

Tools and materials:

  • double-sided colored cardboard of any color (format A 4);
  • a sheet of paper of a contrasting color of approximately the same size;
  • stationery (or wallpaper) knife;
  • ruler;
  • pencil;
  • eraser;
  • pen with empty refill.

Step-by-step instruction

Unfortunately, today postcards have lost their significance: postal envelopes have replaced social media. And yet, receiving one real, exclusive three-dimensional postcard with your own hands for the New Year is much nicer than a bunch of virtual messages on the wall. Here is an option for a simple and cute postcard that can be made in 20 minutes.

New Year's surprise in a postcard

Tools and materials:

  • beautiful paper for the Christmas tree (any color and texture);
  • a sheet of colored double-sided cardboard;
  • transparent glue;
  • scissors;
  • material for decoration (ribbon, beads).

Step-by-step instruction

Cut out 4 squares different sizes, increasing the side by 1 cm each time. These are blanks for a Christmas tree. We fold the largest square diagonally.

Fold the resulting triangle in half again. Unfold the workpiece and fold the square in half, but now in the form of a rectangle.

We put the short sides of the rectangle inside along the already marked fold lines.

We fold the edges of the upper plane of the resulting triangle towards the center and down, as in the photo.

We perform the same operation with the remaining squares. We insert one triangle into the other in the form of a pyramid, fastening them at the top with glue.

Fold the base of the postcard in half using the method described in the first option. Glue the postcard in the center. You can use an extra sheet of paper if the cardboard is not decorative enough.

We decorate the Christmas tree with a bow. Glue a bead onto the knot. Don’t overdo it with decorations! All that remains is to sign it beautifully and send it to the recipient.

Another no less favorite holiday is birthday. Postcard options - for friends and for mothers or grandmothers. You can make a voluminous postcard with your own hands for a birthday or Easter in the shape of a cute chicken.

Card “Chicken” - for birthdays and Easter

Tools and materials:

  • colored paper;
  • wrapping paper;
  • thick paper or cardboard;
  • stationery knife;
  • pencil;
  • ruler;
  • glue stick;
  • scissors.

Step-by-step instruction

For the base, cut out two rectangles. The cover is 15 cm by 15 cm and the inside is 12 cm by 15 cm. The cover can be decorated with wrapping paper.

Bend a strip 3 cm wide from the bottom edge of the smaller rectangle. Pull back 3 cm from both edges and draw stripes - rectangles - 3 cm x 1 cm. Cut the lines with a utility knife.

Repeat the operation two more times - for three parts. Bend the strips forward to form a stand.

We cut out ovals from thick colored paper and decorate the eggs with stickers, sequins, and applique. We fix the eggs on the stand with glue.

I bring to your attention one type of work with paper - creating pop up cards. What it is? After all, the term may seem unfamiliar. But this only seems - after all, in your childhood there were probably folding books that surprised you with three-dimensional images... In our family, for example, there was such a book about the three little pigs... And in classes in children's art studios, you could also be introduced to this method of turning a flat a sheet of paper - in three-dimensional, three-dimensional form. It seems like magic, but it's actually not complicated.

Having mastered this template, you can not only use ready-made templates, but also come up with your own, which is much more interesting :)

Start simple - cut a sheet of paper in half. One half will be the working half, and the second will serve as the background for the finished postcard. It can be temporarily postponed.

Fold the resulting sheet in half and cut parallel lines (4 pairs).

IMPORTANT! The cut lines should not exceed half the sheet, otherwise they will protrude beyond the edges of the card when folded.

Fold the card, bending the resulting rectangles as in the photo.

Now cut out some pieces to glue to the card. In this example, images from balloons and good luck. Glue them to the card.

Now you can glue the resulting card to the previously set aside base.

Now you can add any other small elements to the card - grass, balls - whatever you want...

In the same way, you can write “happy birthday”, make a meadow of flowers or a forest. Although this is not the only way. For lettering, I usually use another option for creating volume, which I'll show you soon.

Recently, it has become very popular to give along with a gift a postcard suitable for the occasion, and not just a postcard, but a voluminous postcard made with your own hands.

The principle of creating such postcards is as follows: you need a three-dimensional image to be cut out of paper according to the desired pattern.

But you don’t have to make complex, voluminous cards! We have prepared for you simple master classes voluminous handmade cards that even small children can make!

And what could be nicer than a three-dimensional postcard made by a child’s hands?

Volumetric postcard for the New Year

With such a postcard you won’t even be ashamed to go to name days and birthdays. New Year, because the birthday boy will definitely like it, as it is made with all the love, care and tenderness for the recipient!

Materials, tools

To do this, select two sheets of half-cardboard in your favorite color and fold them in half. Next, take one sheet, and put the second one aside for last. On the first one, we make 8 segments in the middle of the fold. Next, cut them with scissors and bend them in the opposite direction. Your base is ready! As you can see, there is nothing difficult about making a voluminous postcard with your own hands.

Now let's move on to gifts.

Let's take three different sheets colored paper and a decorative sheet. We cut out squares of various sizes, the most substantial one is from decorative paper. Next, we decorate them vertically with ribbons. Now we make small gift bows. After this, glue these blanks with double-sided tape to the base of the card. Attach the finished bows.

Now, using curly scissors, make beautiful edges on the printed congratulatory inscription, although this is not at all necessary. Attach the finished inscription to the largest “gift”.

So, the postcard is almost ready. All that remains is to glue the second sheet of your half-cardboard to the base.

Congratulations! Your card is ready for the ceremonial presentation!

Based on this simple postcard, you can make other voluminous postcards with your own hands, which will differ in “filling!” And the width of the cut strips.
