DIY crafts from tape reels. How to make a beautiful round box: technique and imagination! Other design ideas

Are you still throwing away empty tape reels? Do not do that! Now I will show and tell you how to turn trash into useful things.

So, what do we need to create our masterpiece besides an empty spool?
- mat, knife, scissors;
- pencil, glue, acrylic paint;
- cardboard for the lid and bottom (I took thick corrugated cardboard for the bottom, and millimeter cardboard for the lid);
- ribbon for securing the lid (small piece);
- paper, distress ink and decorations according to your idea.

I originally planned to do it a little differently, so I took a photo of the ink on the jeans, but I didn't need it during the process.

To create this box I chose this paper. The one with polka dots will be inside. With a pattern - on the outside.

1. Let's put the bobbin in order, tear off everything unnecessary. We cut out 2 circles from cardboard, simply circle the cylinder - one for the lid, and the other for the bottom of our future box. Sand the circle for the lid to make it more even. For the bottom, we don’t touch it yet.

2. Paint the end of the coil on one side and the sides of the cardboard for the lid. I do this with a sponge and undiluted paint. For what? So that later the protruding parts look more aesthetically pleasing.

3. From scrap paper, cut out 2 circles for the bottom and 2 for the lid in the same way. Glue one of the paper circles to a cardboard bottom. I used Artugolka glue for this. It gets wet at first and looks ugly, but when it dries, everything straightens out.

Let's apply it like this:

4. Let's go over the bottom with sandpaper, rubbing out all the irregularities.

5. Cut strips to secure the bottom. I took craft paper. Strips 2*6 cm (approximately), 5-6 pieces. In general, you can put it on glue, but it seems to me that it will be more reliable.

6. And let’s stick them like this.

7. Decorate the circle, which will be the outer bottom. We glue it to the cardboard bottom part, sand it, and tint it with distress ink (I did it in that order).

8. Then we need to cut 2 strips - one for the inside and the other for the outside. I am very lazy! That’s why I do this: I mark it on the reel with a pencil and just roll it over the paper. On back side I mark by adding another 1 cm for gluing. And this will be the outer stripe.

9. Insert it inside and mark how long the inner one will be.

10. Now we tint the stripes. And prepare a ribbon to attach the lid. I have this one.

11. Glue the ribbon-rope inside. As you can see, I took the longer one, as usual, for reliability. I glue it to the moment-crystal.

12. We glue the inside, then again, we sand the edge and tint it. Just don’t forget that you need to use sandpaper when the paper dries. Paper that is wet from glue may tear!

13. Now - outside. It is better if you apply the glue to the bobbin rather than to the paper. Gently, like wallpaper, wiping with a cloth, consistently.

14. Glue the other end of the ribbon onto the lid, only bringing the ribbon onto the front part, this will make it easier to decorate. Again, let’s leave the tail longer.

15. Place a paper circle on the inside of the lid, again sand and tint. We are decorating this side of the lid now, if there is such an idea. I just stamped it.

16. Now let’s do step 15, but only with the outer part of the lid - and now, the base for the box is ready!

And now the fun begins! Let's decorate your box as your imagination tells you! Let's add whatever our heart desires - and we'll all admire the resulting masterpiece together!

Here's what I got:

There are many interesting ways how to make a box with your own hands. It can be made from wood, plywood, cardboard, baguette, thread and even old newspapers and magazines. Recently, it has been fashionable to make an organizer box based on tetrapacks or turn an old unnecessary book into an opening box. Another interesting and simple way is to use a box made from a tape reel. It makes great packaging for a small gift or a great way to store jewelry, flash drives, or other small items in your home. Here is a step-by-step master class.

Difficulty level: easy.
Time required: 2 hours.

Materials

To repeat the master class, you will need:

  • an empty reel of wide tape (preferably 5 cm high) - it can be successfully replaced with any cardboard tube, which you simply have to cut with a knife. You can make a chic box if you cut a wide linoleum tube into pieces!
  • binding or regular corrugated cardboard
  • scrapbooking paper – 1-2 sheets 30x30 cm.
  • shaped edge punch
  • decor for the lid
  • PVA glue
  • double sided tape.

Examples of other works additionally use felt and lace.
The master class is quite simple and does not require any special skills or abilities.

Manufacturing technique

The master class consists of three stages:

  • gluing a reel of tape,
  • creating a cap
  • decor

1. The first task is to draw 2 circles on thick cardboard using a reel of tape. Both times you need to circle the outside. The first circle is the future bottom, the second is a blank for the lid. I cut out the parts and with their help I immediately cut out 4 similar circles of scrap paper.

2. I measure the circumference in a circle and cut out two long strips from scrap paper according to the size of the inner and outer circumference of the tape reel + a small margin in height. I cut the remaining stock along the entire length to make it easier to glue later.
3. I glue the paper first on the inside and then on the outside. If the box is made on a reel of double-sided tape, this saves a little time and allows you to quickly cover the outside with decorative paper. The photo shows the whole process in detail.

4. I take the part for the bottom and glue a circle of scrap paper onto it on one side; this will be the inside of the bottom. I apply glue around the perimeter of the tape reel and glue the bottom. For greater strength, I coat the remaining cloves with glue and also glue them to the bottom from the outside. Now all that remains is to glue the second circle of scrap paper on top to the bottom, and my box turns into a beautiful box.
5. Now we need to make a beautiful lid. There are two different ways, both will be included in this master class.

Option 1. I take a circle of binding cardboard and glue pre-prepared circles of scrap paper to it on top and bottom. I cut out one of the two circles with a margin, which I trim as shown in the photo. After this, I measure the circumference of the future lid and cut out a strip of that length from scrap paper. The height of the strip is 2 cm. I process one edge of the strip with an edge hole punch. Then I put the circle on the box, smear the protruding tails with glue and glue the prepared one to the lid. paper strip. Now the lid fits tightly to the box.

Option 2. At the very beginning, a strip 0.5 cm high is cut lengthwise from the tape reel using a breadboard knife. This becomes the basis for the lid. Decorative cardboard is glued to the top and sides.
The sides of the lid can be made not only from paper, but also using lace, as in the example in the photo.

There is another interesting option on how to make the lid tighter and more reliable. To do this, it is necessary not only to cut off part of the reel, but also to insert into the larger part a circle of thick gray cardboard 1 cm higher than the height of the box itself. It is on this cardboard that the lid will be placed. This is discussed in more detail in the next video.

The box is almost ready. The simplest and most beautiful stage– lid decor.

Decor ideas

To decorate the lid in any home you will probably find many suitable materials:

The top box is decorated large flower gray chiffon with thin ribbons.
The second one is decorated exclusively with scrap paper.
The third box is glued inside soft felt, and on the outside, instead of paper, there are remnants of wallpaper, a velvet ribbon, a small pendant and a large paper flower. A wonderful way to preserve small seashells as a memento of your summer trip!

The master class is completed. We made several beautiful boxes for storing various small items.

Other design ideas

Our master class explains in detail how to decorate a bobbin using paper and a shaped hole punch. However, there are still many different interesting options finishing. Here are some ideas for inspiration.

  1. Instead of scrap paper, you can use the decoupage technique. To do this, you will first have to cover the sides with acrylic primer, and then glue a napkin or decoupage card (the decoupage technique is described in more detail here).
  2. You can decorate the box using kebab skewers or toothpicks, and tint the edges with a semi-dry sponge with acrylic paint or stamp pads for scrap.
  3. There's another one interesting idea for those who like to work with fabric, make a soft fabric box with a padding polyester layer. Here good video master class on working with fabric.

Here's what I got:

And another one of mine:

There are never too many boxes! But don’t rush to buy ready-made souvenirs in stores; try to master a simple technique for decorating unnecessary items.

In this master class you will learn how to make a box with your own hands from tape rolls. A simple but very effective napkin technique was used for decoration. The cost of the craft is so low that the finished work can be obtained almost free of charge. This cute box will be a wonderful storage for jewelry, and will also be suitable as a gift to a friend, sister or mother.

Budget set of materials

To make a box from tape sleeves you will need:

Cylindrical bushings – 2 pcs.;
thick cardboard;
beautiful paper napkins;
glue, preferably PVA;
pearlescent eyeshadow;
decorative beads;
braid 1 cm;
varnish;
watercolor;
brush.

Stages of making a box

After using the tape, dense cardboard cylinders of different diameters and widths remain. In this case, you should stock up on a base of wide and narrow tape of the same diameter. The body of the box will be made from a wide sleeve, and a convenient lid will be made from a narrow sleeve. Both of them must be coated with a primer made from white paint mixed with PVA.

For the bottom and top of the lid, it is necessary to cut out circles from thick cardboard with a diameter larger than the cylinders themselves, approximately 0.5 cm. They should also be primed with white paint and glue.

Each of the parts must be covered with a thick layer of creamy glue and placed on this layer decorative napkins, taking only the very top part for work, as for. It's better to glue it in scraps. When thin paper comes into contact with glue, it acquires a beautiful wrinkled surface. Repeat the operation with all parts separately and let dry.

Connect the parts together using glue, forming a body and a lid. Place under a press and dry. Connect the lid and body with a piece of tape, gluing it to both parts. The result is an element that performs the functions of a hinge. For another option for making bushings, see.

Place the beads on the glue along the protruding edges of the circles of the bottom and lid. Don't spare glue. Since the goal is to make a vintage box, the surface needs to be visually aged. Pearlescent shadows, which often remain unused in a palette with many shades, cope best with this task. Their advantage is a wide selection of colors. It is better to use several tones at once and you can simply apply them with your finger.

Excessively bright gold beads also need to be made less shiny. The primer that was used to cover the entire box will serve its purpose here as well. The second layer is applied pearlescent powder from shadows, diluted with glue.

With your own hands you can create a cute and interesting box. You can use it for any jewelry, jewelry, beads, buttons, hairpins. The only limitation can be its size. Special costs its creation does not require, but only a little effort and time. The size of the box depends on the size of the tape reel.

Necessary materials:

  • tape reel;
  • thin cardboard;
  • PVA glue;
  • universal glue;
  • lace;
  • egg shells;
  • satin ribbon 2.5 cm wide;
  • acrylic paint;
  • acrylic lacquer.

Master class: box made from a reel of tape

To work, you need thin cardboard. It is very convenient to use cardboard folders or binders.

Place the reel on cardboard and trace with a simple pencil along the inside of the reel.

Cut out a circle. We will need 10-12 such circles (depending on the thickness of the cardboard).

Then we put the reel back on the cardboard and trace it around the outside with a pencil. We also cut out 10-12 circles. Glue together 5 cardboard circles. To do this, coat the circle well with PVA glue and place the second one on it. Lubricate the second one and put in the third one, etc. All blanks must be put under the press until the glue dries completely. It turns out only 4 blanks.

Use very fine sandpaper to sand the side edges well.

We place the bobbin on a large blank, align it and draw it along the inside with a simple pencil. This way we mark the place where we need to glue the smaller piece. We lubricate the smaller workpiece with glue and apply it to the larger workpiece, and put it under the press. We do the same with the second pair of blanks.

When the glue has dried, simply glue the bobbin to one of the blanks. The second blank will serve as a lid for the box. Acrylic paint paint the box and lid.

It is better to use shells from white eggs. It must first be washed and the inner film removed. Then we just break it down small pieces and glue it to the side of the box using PVA glue. Leave a small distance between the shell pieces. We cover the box and lid with acrylic varnish, possibly in 2 layers.

Using universal glue, glue two strips of lace to match the color of the box.

To decorate the lid, we make three roses from satin ribbon. We turn the edge of the tape inward 90 degrees and twist it into a tube. Then we bend the tape outward (as if turning it over) and make a turn. Then we bend the tape again and now make half a turn. We continue to do this until we get a rose. Periodically drip a little glue onto the lapel and press it. We burn the edge of the tape with a candle and simply glue it.
