On February 9-18, 2018, over 40 sites will operate in different areas of Moscow, including Revolution Square, Manezhnaya Square, New Arbat, Tverskoy Boulevard and others.

Each will have its own theme and design. Over a hundred hand-made art objects will be used here. So, here you can see “Tsar Maslenitsa” made from several tons of pure lake ice, straw Maslenitsa figures, Russian national toys from one and a half to three meters in height and much more.

Muscovites and guests of the capital will enjoy theatrical folklore Maslenitsa performances, traditional folk fun and games; Guests will be entertained by buffoons and entertainers.

Culture and recreation parks will present an extensive animation program for children and adults with competitions, interactive events, and concerts of professional and amateur groups.

Events for Maslenitsa 2018 were prepared by Gorky Park, Sokolniki, Kuzminki, Fili, Izmailovsky, Hermitage Garden, Bauman Garden, Krasnaya Presnya Park, Babushkinsky, Lianozovsky, Artem Borovik Park, Gardeners, Perovsky, Tagansky, Vorontsovsky, Goncharovsky, Northern Tushino Park, Victory Park on Poklonnaya Hill.

Traditional festivities on Maslenitsa will be held in ancient estates - in Kolomenskoye, Izmailovo, Lyublino, Tsaritsyno.

Festive events for Maslenitsa in Moscow Parks

Maslenitsa in Gorky Park

On February 17 and 18, a holiday called “Maslenitsa Sunshine” will be held here. A rubber art object in the form of a huge sun will be placed between the columns of the park’s entrance group.

Walking through the park, you can see thematic installations: Flames, Flowers, Tower and Labyrinth. In order to spend the winter properly, several sites are organized in the park.

Take part in a tug of war, a sack race or a game of quiet games: scramble, chess and petanque. And then stop by the fair to warm up with hot pancakes and buy soulful souvenirs. The stage on which the artists will perform will be installed on Pushkinskaya Embankment.

There will also be a solemn ceremony of burning the effigy - instead of an ordinary straw doll, a creative art object will be burned. This year its height will reach eight meters, so the holiday will be visible from afar.

Museum-Reserve "Izmailovo"

On February 18, 13.00, everyone will be able to take part in interactive events in the “Under the Vaults” concert hall; free entrance tickets will be distributed right in the park. There will also be a performance by a Russian folk ensemble and a performance of life-size puppets with buffoons.

Important! The number of places is limited, so the organizers warn visitors that it is impossible to accommodate everyone in the building.

Hermitage Garden: Maslenitsa events

Guests can enjoy sports competitions and a wooden horse ride. For participation, everyone will receive a cockerel lollipop. You can take part in braiding for Maslenitsa.

Everyone will be able to dance in circles and ride the carousel. For the youngest visitors there will be a theatrical performance on the theme of the traditions of welcoming spring in Rus'. The Lyubo-Milo ensemble will organize traditional square Maslenitsa chants with games. The finale of the holiday will be the burning of the Maslenitsa effigy.

Festive program in Kuzminki Park

Guests are invited to creative master classes, where everyone will be taught how to create popular prints. Children will be shown a street performance based on the fairy tale “The Twelve Months”, and there will also be a concert by an orchestra of Russian folk instruments.

At the end of the holiday there is a Maslenitsa ribbon carousel.

Tagansky Park

People's quest. Visitors will be divided into teams and complete various sports and intellectual tasks. They will have to create a scarecrow of Maslenitsa and remember Russian folk songs and ditties associated with the holiday. The festivities will end with a concert of folklore ensembles.

Krasnaya Presnya Park

A quest of seven comic stages, compiled according to the days of Maslenitsa week. The tasks include Maslenitsa riddles, tug-of-war, intricate round dances, and pancake competitions.

Maslenitsa 2018 in Vorontsovsky Park

In Vorontsovsky Park, guests will get acquainted with ancient traditions. Interactive interaction with the audience will provide an opportunity to earn prizes and souvenirs, and fun activities will help the youngsters show their heroic strength. The culmination of the holiday will be the burning of the effigy. The Marco Polo group will perform at the festival.

Venues and program of the Moscow Maslenitsa 2018 festival

This year, the program of the Moscow Maslenitsa 2018 festival will be drawn up taking into account the fact that 2018 has been declared the year of theater in Russia. At Moscow Maslenitsa 2018 there will be performances by national theaters of Russia. Talented directors and artists from the regions will present productions with a national flavor.

Manezhnaya Square

On Manezhnaya Square you will find the immersive performance “Tsar’s Maslenitsa” - a vibrant performance by director Vitaly Borovik with elements of folk dances, scenes from buffoons, filled with humor and music. Every viewer can become an actor.

And the “12 Maslenitsa” project, located inside glass display cases, will introduce visitors to the history of the national costume, traditions and way of life of the peoples of different regions of Russia. The shopping chalets sell pancakes and hot drinks.

Tverskaya Square

The stage on Tverskaya Square is dedicated to the Maslenitsa traditions of Moscow and the Moscow region. Folklore groups, musical groups and professional theater artists will perform here every day. The program on Tverskaya Square introduces Maslenitsa games, traditional round dances, and carols.

Master classes on painting will be held in the “House of the Red Horse” pavilion wooden toys, lectures and exhibition dedicated to traditional wood painting.

Visitors to the Living Room pavilion will attend master classes on gold embroidery, cold gilding and Khokhloma painting of wooden utensils.

The Pottery Workshop pavilion invites you to learn more about Moscow tiles. Guests will enjoy demonstration classes by ceramic masters.

For children, the site will feature a “Children’s Maslenitsa Village” - a playground with houses, mills, and wells.

The artists will introduce children to traditional Maslenitsa games for the Moscow region. Folklore groups, musical groups and theater artists will perform on the main stage of Tverskaya Square every day. The program will be complemented by Maslenitsa games, round dances and carols.

Here you can see mummers' performances, learn folk songs that were sung on Maslenitsa, wrestle with a bear and take part in other folk games and amusements.

Tverskoy Boulevard

On Tverskoy Boulevard, guests will be able to practice archery, take part in tug-of-war competitions, a comic duel with training tambar swords, or a sack fight on a log.

Here, in the “Kitchen” pavilion, a “Bread House” will open, where you can learn the history of flour-grinding and baking. The pavilion will host an exhibition of different types of grain and flour, tools and devices for grinding flour, preparing dough, baking bread and pancakes.

And then there will be interactive lectures and master classes on manual grinding of flour using a millstone, on baking bread, and, of course, on...

Revolution square

On Revolution Square, a guard from the early 19th century will keep order in the noble location and “arrest” festival guests, inviting them to take photographs. You can take a photo and immediately print it as a keepsake. The photo booth will be open all days of the festival from 11:00 to 22:00.

The space between Revolution Square and Manezhnaya Square will be turned into a large playground with brightly painted equipment for outdoor fun and competitions.

Guests can ride on the carousel, swings and spring rockers, and test their agility with the balance beam and ring throw rides. The site is open daily from 11 to 20:00.

Kamergersky Lane

In Kamergersky Lane there will be a “City of Masters”, where anyone can independently paint dishes, souvenirs and household items, make a carved frame, and also make a Maslenitsa-Lichomanka doll.

As part of the “Golden Mask in the City” project, seven national theaters from different Russian regions will present plays, dance performances and a fragment of an opera. The main event of the program will be the performance “The Red Shaman” based on the work of Platon Oyunsky, a joint project of the two largest theaters in Yakutia. The performance will take place on February 18.

New Arbat

Carnival processions await festival visitors on Novy Arbat! Visit the Russian “masquerades” of Elizabethan times: they were organized on the model of the famous Venetian carnival, take part in the carnival of pre-Petrine times, or walk in the Hungarian Bushojaras procession with mummers-buchars in masks and sheep skins.

Semenovskaya Square

Master classes for children will be held on Semenovskaya Square. Young chefs will learn how to cook pancakes according to ancient recipes: royal and princely pancakes, tender pancakes with kefir, hearty with meat and sweet with honey, and even “red” pancakes with stewed milk. Everyone will learn recipes for pancake dishes: pancake cake, pie, salad and even a casserole made from regular pancakes!

Profsoyuznaya street

On Profsoyuznaya 41 (Novye Cheryomushki metro station) traditional city entertainment of the late 19th century will be available to visitors. Take a souvenir photo in a photo shop using an antique camera on a tripod, make a stylized postcard at the post office and seal the envelope with a real wax seal.

The “People's Izba” site will operate here, where folk crafts of the late 19th century will be demonstrated. Here the musical group “Komon” will perform traditional music on the accordion, balalaika and tambourine. Performances will take place on all festival days, every hour for 20 minutes.

Opening hours of the "People's Hut": weekdays from 15:45 to 19:05; weekends from 12:45 to 19:05.

In the “Oriental Living Room” you can learn the basics of Chinese calligraphy and ink painting, learn how to prepare sweets and hot drinks according to 19th-century recipes, and also listen to lectures on the influence of Eastern fashion on European fashion.
