Is it possible to wash the things of a newborn with ordinary powder. We wash baby clothes for newborns in the washing machine correctly: the choice of powder and temperature. Soap nuts are the greenest option for newborns

The birth of a child always changes the usual way of life of the family. Newly minted parents have to take more seriously even such ordinary household chores as washing and ironing clothes. And no wonder! The very first thing a baby comes into contact with after birth is his clothes. It is very important that it is always clean and safe, because in the first months of life, the baby's body is not yet strong enough to fight foreign bacteria.

How, how and at what temperature it is best to wash the things of a newborn - these are just a small part of the questions that young mothers have. In this article, we will help you find the answers to them.

Do I need to wash clothes for newborns before the hospital?

Lovely undershirts, diapers, bumpers in the crib are usually bought long before the baby is born. It is very important to remember that before they hit the store counter, they went through many hands, which means they require mandatory washing. On the tags of such things it is often indicated: "Wash before the first wear."

Some parents prefer to simply iron their new children's clothes, destroying any germs that have fallen on them with a jet of hot steam. Unfortunately, such actions are fundamentally wrong. In addition to a variety of bacteria, the fibers of the fabric of new clothes contain starch, which is added by manufacturers to give products a better look. It is known to be very irritating to the sensitive skin of an infant. Many of us often forget that absolutely any clothes should be washed after purchase, and in the case of children's clothes, you must adhere to this rule as strictly as possible.

How to wash baby clothes for newborns?

There are many rules for washing and caring for baby clothes that new parents should take note of. Let's talk about the main ones:

  1. Newborn clothes should be washed separately from the rest. It is even advisable to allocate a separate laundry basket for the crumbs, into which the clothes of other family members will not fall. The thing is that while traveling by public transport or shopping, a lot of harmful microorganisms get on the things of adults, and it is important to minimize their contact with the baby. For the same reason, you should avoid washing heavily soiled clothes in the drum of the machine into which the child's laundry is subsequently placed (unless it is washed by hand). In extreme cases, you need to thoroughly clean the drum of the machine after washing the dirty clothes of other family members.
  2. Children's clothes should never just be washed.. Even if a small speck appears on a blouse or vest, the thing should go to the wash as a whole.
  3. All underwear crumbs should be thoroughly rinsed.. The most harmless-looking detergent may contain substances that can cause an allergic reaction on a child's skin.
  4. Any organic waste before the main wash cycle should be removed from the fabric with a brush or other improvised means. Microorganisms live in the intestines of an infant, just like in adults. They are safe only as long as they do not come into contact with other parts of the baby's body. When the contents of the intestine get into a large pile of clothes, it goes to other things along with all the microflora contained in it.
  5. It is strictly forbidden to remove stains from children's clothing with chlorine bleaches and products containing soda or fluorescent substances. The best way to get rid of stubborn stains on baby clothes is to use hydrogen peroxide. In addition to excellent cleaning properties, it also has an antiseptic effect.
  6. Do not use cold water to wash baby clothes.. The water temperature for hand washing should reach +40 ℃, and for machine washing +90 ℃.
  7. Mom's clothes, with which the baby is in close contact, should also be washed separately. It is necessary to use baby detergents and rinse things thoroughly.
  8. Laundered items should be well straightened when drying.. Clothes hung in this way will dry faster, preventing molds from multiplying in the fabric.
  9. Baby's underwear must be ironed on both sides to prevent contact of baby skin with harmful microbes. It is especially important to adhere to this rule in the first month of a baby's life, when his umbilical wound has not yet healed.

How can you wash things for a newborn?

At a time when no one had heard of automatic machines, housewives washed dirty clothes by hand using soap. And even now, in an era of active development of technology and industry, many mothers prefer a proven laundry detergent, namely ordinary soap. It contains a minimum of harmful substances that can cause unwanted allergic reactions in a child.

To choose a harmless product, it is better to give preference to odorless soap, maximum - with a slight aroma of herbs. But even a completely safe-looking product can cause dermatitis. The reason is that the main component of soap - salts of fatty acids - is not always represented by products of plant origin, sometimes it is obtained by oil refining. That's why it's important to wash children's clothes with products labeled "for kids", which are as environmentally friendly and safe as possible.

Soap, in addition to its availability, has another advantage - it makes any fabric soft and pleasant to the touch, and also retains the original appearance of clothing for a long time. But it takes a long time to rinse out such a product, which is why recently it has been replaced by many more convenient detergents, for example, powders.

An excellent alternative to ordinary soap can be soap shavings or soap vermicelli, which you can either make yourself or buy in specialized stores. It is convenient to use them in a washing machine, falling asleep not in the drum of the device, but in a standard compartment for detergent.

Contrary to common misconceptions, modern baby laundry detergents are no more dangerous than soap, and sometimes even more harmless. It is only important to carefully read the composition on the label and make sure that the product does not contain phosphates or optical brighteners. Many manufacturers put the mark “suitable from the first days of life” on the packages, vouching for the safety of washed items. When choosing baby powder, you should not focus on well-known brands. It is more useful to listen to reviews of other buyers regarding the products they recommend. We advise you to take a closer look at the powders of such companies as Aistenok, Dally Med, Peanut, World of Childhood, Eared Nyan.

You can easily and safely wash things for a newborn using various washing gels (again marked “for children”). Their advantage lies in the fact that the active substances are of the smallest size and are easily rinsed out of any fabrics. Unfortunately, the cost of such detergents is higher than the usual powders or soaps. Domal washing gel for baby clothes has proven itself well, and every year more and more high-quality and harmless goods can be found on the domestic market.

Fans of everything environmentally friendly will like the most natural remedy - soap nuts. They do an excellent job of washing lightly soiled clothes, but are only used in washing machines. Soap shells are packed in a special bag and placed in the drum of the device along with the laundry. Nuts are harmless to children's skin, but cannot deal with stubborn stains or difficult dirt.

Is it allowed to wash baby clothes for a newborn in a washing machine?

Certainly yes. The only caveat is that it is necessary to clearly separate children's and adult clothes. The washing machine allows you to carry out the fabric cleaning procedure at high temperatures, as well as disinfect things with steam or silver ions. In addition, such devices save young parents time, which is already very often not enough. When using the unit, the consumption of detergents is also reduced, and the fabric is better wrung out and dries faster.

Before washing baby clothes in the washing machine, make sure that the drum is not overloaded. When there is too much laundry, it significantly reduces the quality of washing and rinsing clothes.

It may seem to young parents that washing things for a newborn is a very difficult task that requires a lot of patience and accuracy. But in practice, all adult family members quickly get used to the careful sorting of clothes and the use of only high-quality and proven household chemicals. Remember that such behavior is the key to the health of not only the crumbs, but also his parents.

The first officially patented washing machine was made of wood and consisted of a framed box filled halfway with wooden balls. Laundry and detergent were loaded inside, and with the help of a lever the frame was moved, which, in turn, made the balls move and grind the laundry.

In the 19th century, it took a lot of time to wash ladies' toilets. The dresses were first ripped, and then washed and dried each part separately so that the fabric did not deform. After washing, the clothes were sewn again.

History knows the fact when a kitten got into the drum of a washing machine and, having gone through a full wash cycle on the Woolen Things program, got out of the unit safe and sound. The only trouble for the pet was an allergy to washing powder.

There are a variety of balls that are used in the washing machine. Antistatic will prevent the fabric from sticking to the body after washing, balls with special loops will “comb” the villi and prevent the appearance of spools, and silicone with pimples will prevent fluff from falling off when washing outerwear.

Astronauts, while in Earth orbit, solve the problem of dirty things in an original way. The clothes are dropped from the spacecraft and burn up in the upper atmosphere.

Washing machines equipped with the "No Iron" or "Easy Iron" functions can wash clothes with little to no wrinkling. This effect is achieved due to a special approach to spinning - it is performed at low speeds, with long pauses, and a small amount of water remains in the tank.

For washing small items on the road or in a hotel, it is convenient to use a regular plastic bag. Socks or tights are kneaded inside a tied bag along with water and a small amount of detergent. This method allows you to pre-soak things and perform washing without damaging the fabric and without spending a lot of powder and water.

Washing machines are related to the origin of the expression "money laundering". In the 1930s, American gangsters used the laundry chain as a cover for their illegal activities. Passing off the proceeds of crime as proceeds from cleaning clothes, they turned "dirty" money into "clean" money.

With the advent of the child, the need for laundry arises almost every day. Even with the use of disposable diapers, babies have to change clothes several times a day. But for the care of linen, you can not use standard powders. We will figure out how and how to wash baby clothes for newborns.

The purpose of washing soiled laundry is clear - to remove stains, dust, odors and germs, and to make clothes look attractive. But many mothers are wondering if it is necessary to wash the new clothes of the newborn? Doctors answer it in the affirmative.

The immune system of a young child is not fully functional. It is better to protect it from contact with pathogens and dirt that may be present on purchased clothes and diapers. Parents cannot know for sure under what conditions things were stored: maybe there were rodents, fungus or mold in the warehouse. In addition, there is no guarantee that the laundry has only been touched with clean hands.

It is better to prepare the "dowry" of the baby 2-3 weeks before the birth. How to wash new clothes for a newborn? For these purposes, baby soap is perfect. It is necessary to soak clothes and diapers for 10-15 minutes in a soapy solution, rub them with your hands, rinse thoroughly, dry them in the fresh air, iron them and wrap them in an airtight bag.

Detergents for washing children's things

What is the best way to wash newborn clothes? From whether the mother can choose a safe product for cleaning the baby's clothes, his health largely depends. The protective barrier of children's skin is imperfect. Aggressive substances easily penetrate through it, causing an allergic reaction in the form of redness, itching, pimples and peeling. In addition, household chemicals contain volatile elements that enter the respiratory tract. Constant contact with them can provoke respiratory allergies, weakening of local immunity and other unpleasant consequences.

So how to wash baby things for a newborn so as not to harm him? Main types of funds:

  • laundry soap;
  • special powders and gels;
  • soap nuts.

Baby soap

Many doctors and experienced mothers in the first month of a baby's life advise using baby soap. The product does not contain fragrances, dyes and aggressive synthetic substances. It contains:

  • softening ingredients - lanolin, boric acid, glycerin, oils;
  • antibacterial components - extracts of string, chamomile, calendula and so on.

The cleaning properties of soap are based on the ability of the foam to absorb dirt and prevent it from recombining with the surface. Advantages of the baby product:

  • skin safety;
  • easy washing out of fabric fibers.

Its disadvantage is low efficiency in the fight against stubborn stains on things. But in the first months of life, the discharge of a breastfed baby is odorless. They are relatively easy to wash if the thing is immediately soaked and lathered. Some mothers do not use detergents at all to wash diapers stained with urine.

Can newborn clothes be washed? It is characterized by a high content of alkalis (0.15-0.20%). Fatty acids in it no more than 72%. The pH level is 11-12. The product has antibacterial properties.

You can’t use laundry soap for a child’s skin, and it copes with dirt on things perfectly, including complex stains. The disadvantage of the product is a specific smell, but with thorough rinsing it disappears.

When buying laundry soap, you should pay attention to the composition. The traditional remedy contains only natural ingredients. But some manufacturers add bleaching agents, dyes and flavors to it. This product is not suitable for washing children's clothes.

Note: For the convenience of housewives, baby and laundry soap is produced in the form of shavings. It dissolves easily in water, forming a rich foam.

Powders

What kind of powder to wash things for newborns? It should not contain potentially harmful substances. It is impossible to completely remove the powder from the fibers of the fabric, its particles remain in them after drying and come into contact with the baby's skin, and can also penetrate into the bloodstream.

How to safely wash baby clothes for newborns? When choosing a powder, you should pay attention not only to the mark "for newborns" or "0+", but also to its composition.

The tool should not contain:

  • phosphate additives - they destroy the hydrolipidic mantle of the skin, reducing its resistance to external factors, and when they penetrate into the blood, they change its formula;
  • chlorine - it dries out the epidermis, causing irritation and itching;
  • optical brighteners - they remain on the surface of the fabric after rinsing.

A-surfactants (anionic surfactants) should be absent or there should be a minimum amount in the composition, since they disrupt the course of redox reactions in the body and destroy some of the enzymes;

Some powders use non-ionic surfactants instead of A-surfactants. They do not decompose into ions in water, keep contaminants in solution and are characterized by biodegradability.

How to wash newborn clothes in a washing machine? Almost all washing powders are designed for machine and hand washing. The most popular means:

Parents' reviews show that "Tide", "Eared Nanny" and "Karapuz" often cause allergies in babies, but "Aistenok" is the safest option in this regard.

Expensive brands (Amway, Garden, BabyLine, Sodasan, "Our Mom"), as a rule, produce baby powders with the safest possible composition. Their price is offset by a high concentration of active substances. In the lines of many manufacturers there are washing gels. Their advantage is small particles that are easily rinsed out.

Tip: When buying a powder, you should pay attention to the packaging. It must be intact, with a list of components and an indication of the expiration date. It is advisable to feel the plastic bag - under normal storage conditions, the substance should not clump.

Soap nuts

How to wash things for newborns without chemicals at all? You can use soap nuts - the fruits of the Sapindus plant. Their dry shell contains a large amount of saponins - natural surfactants. It should be packed in a cloth bag and placed in the drum of the washing machine. Practice shows that nuts cope only with minor contamination.

General washing rules

How to wash baby clothes for a newborn? Key recommendations:

The subtleties of machine washing

Using a washing machine saves mom time and effort. Many models are equipped with the "Children's wash" function. When it is activated, the water is heated to a high temperature, and rinsing is performed in a large volume of liquid. In addition, this mode gives things softness.

If there is no special function, select the mode depending on the type of fabric and use double or intensive rinse. The amount of powder or gel is determined by the instructions. It is important not to exceed the dosage.

At what temperature should I wash clothes for newborns? Diapers and bed linen are best cleaned at 80-90 ºС. For delicate items, you can use a low temperature, but not less than 40 ºС.

Everyone knows that the things of a newborn cannot be washed in the same way as things of adults. Baby diapers, sliders, etc., need to be washed properly. But how is it right? It’s not that difficult to answer this question right off the bat, but for quite a long time, so we decided to offer this publication as an answer. It contains information about hand and machine washing newborns, as well as some helpful tips for caring for newborns.

Before washing

Diapers and other things for newborns must be prepared before washing. Some negligent mothers throw diapers, undershirts, sliders into a laundry basket, and then, after a couple of days, they throw them in a huge amount into the washing machine, sometimes along with some adult clothes, and wash it all with ordinary washing machine powder. In our opinion, only a notorious barbarian who does not care about the health of his own baby can wash children's things like this. The right thing to do is:

  1. Clothes and diapers, while feces, urine and other impurities have not yet dried to them, must be rinsed in cold water. If you rinse in warm water, traces of feces will remain on things.

If there is no time to rinse the newborn's things in cold water, you can put them in a bowl of cold water and rinse when the time comes.

  1. After rinsing the baby clothes, take a bar of baby soap and rub all the stains you see on them. It is advisable to rub with soap on both sides, so the pollution will effectively become sour and then go away during washing.
  2. Wet items rubbed with soap can be folded into a basin. Water does not need to be poured. In this state, they can lie until the washing itself, which will have to be started in the evening. It is absolutely impossible to keep diapers wet for days on end.

Newborn clothes usually have biological contamination, which can be removed without problems and without the use of expensive super-effective powders. It is best to start washing such linen by hand using a piece of the same baby soap, however, you can wash a large number of things for newborns or small children in an automatic washing machine. In this case, ordinary bar soap will not work, you will have to use, which the manufacturer allows to use in the washing machine.

There are quite a few such powders on the market: Garden Kids, Frau Schmidt Ocean Baby, Vish Baby and others. It's easy to find, but you have to be careful. Before buying a powder, be sure to read its composition. If the powder contains surfactants, phosphates, zeolites in large quantities, they are not suitable for newborn things. If you are tight on money or don't trust powder manufacturers, you can - this is also a good option, albeit more laborious.

By hand or in the washing machine?

After rinsing and rubbing the baby's clothes with soap and choosing a good powder for washing it, you can proceed directly to washing. If you have time and desire, you can wash your baby's clothes by hand in a basin of water, in fact, the way our mothers and grandmothers did. Hand washing, of course, is troublesome, but also economical. You do not waste electricity, large amounts of water, or expensive baby powder, because you can also wash it by hand with baby laundry soap.

“Piss and poop” are better washed in cold water, but you also want to save your joints, so you need to wash at a water temperature of 15-18 0 C - do not collect ice water in a basin, health is more expensive. Dip baby clothes into a basin of water and start rinsing and gurgling intensively. Things previously rubbed with soap must first be wrinkled and rubbed, then rinsed, and then rubbed again with a bar of soap and “buzzed” again. After the next rinse, most likely, it will be possible to get rid of all the stains, if not, then the procedure will have to be repeated again.

When washing children's clothes by hand, do not bend over the basin of water, creating a load on the lower back, as you will quickly get tired. Put the basin on the floor, kneel beside it and calmly start washing.

In an automatic washing machine, washing things for a newborn should also be carried out in a special way.

  • Place a sufficient amount of baby items in the washing machine drum. If there are too few things, an imbalance may occur, if there is too much, overload.
  • Open the powder drawer and pour a sufficient amount of detergent into the main wash compartment. You can’t pour fabric softener, pour Calgon and similar products too.
  • We close the cuvette and the hatch. Select a washing program. It is enough to select the quick wash mode for 30-40 minutes. At what temperature to wash? Everything is simple here, we choose to wash things in cold water.
  • If the machine has a double rinse mode, then select it and start the wash, if there is no such mode, then the second rinse must be started manually. It is very important that all the remnants of the powder are rinsed out of things.

After washing

As soon as you wash baby clothes in the above ways, you need to wring it out and put it in a pile so that you can then hang all the clothes to dry. You can not strain with the spin, but put all the laundry in the drum of the washing machine and set the spin program. Someone else still has old Soviet centrifuges for spinning clothes. In this case, such a centrifuge can be perfectly used. After such a centrifuge, the laundry at the exit will be slightly damp, which means it will dry much faster.

It is better to dry poorly wrung out clothes of a newborn on the street. In winter, it is necessary to thoroughly wring out and dry the linen near the heater or battery, otherwise you will quickly get mold on the walls from dampness.

Hang thoroughly wrung out laundry to dry. If you live in a gassed area of the city, then it’s better not to dry your baby’s things on the street at all. In this case, a tumble dryer or washer-dryer would be ideal. Of course, these household appliances are very expensive, and if you do not have the means to buy them, you will have to put an ordinary sliding dryer in the room, and a heat source somewhere nearby.

Be careful! Do not hang baby diapers and undershirts directly on heaters, especially if they are spiral-type heaters, as it is not far from a fire.

Finally, instead of a conclusion, I would like to give some advice to young mothers who do not yet have sufficient experience in caring for newborn children regarding the care of their things.

As a bonus to the information presented in this article, we will also talk about ironing things for newborns. Some young mothers neglect ironing certain things, thinking that this is not so important. In fact, this is very important, even if you dry things at home. You need to iron all the things of the baby, and on both sides and, preferably, with an iron with a steamer, so you will definitely get rid of most of the harmful microbes that have time to settle on the drying linen. Do not neglect the rules specified in the article, and everything will be fine!

Moms should know how to wash baby clothes for newborns to protect them from bacteria, germs and allergens. The use of gentle laundry detergents, natural ingredients, temperature control and manual cleaning will save the baby from the dangers of the new world.

The birth of a child changes the usual way of life in the family, everything centers around a small, defenseless little man. In the first month, he has low immunity, delicate skin, fragile bones, any oversight can cause irreparable harm to health. Careful care will help raise a healthy child.

People live surrounded by invisible bacteria. Microscopic creatures, entering the body, are responsible for its microflora, immune system, and health. It is important that they are from the category of useful, and not dangerous, capable of causing diseases, viruses. All things, items from the everyday life of a newborn are subject to careful processing. In the process, it is important to observe the following rules:

  1. Baby clothes are washed separately from other things. To collect it, you should create a separate basket.
  2. Before laying baby clothes, it is impossible to clean contaminated work clothes and shoes in a typewriter, basin.
  3. Do not use rinses, conditioners, other means in the first six months of life.
  4. Rinse thoroughly after removing dirt.
  5. Ironing with steam helps to remove powder residue, softens linen, and disinfects. It is important to steam in the first week until the umbilical cord heals.
  6. Wash quickly without piling up. The maximum period is 1-2 days. This will make it easier to remove difficult stains from milk, food, and urine, feces will not have time to soak deep into the fabric.
  7. Use a special powder or soap, crushed on a grater. Standard products are dangerous, contain components harmful to children.
  8. Keep things separate.
  9. Dry indoors, avoiding dirt, dust.
  10. The clothes of the mother, with which the baby comes into contact, must be carefully processed with safe products.

These simple rules will help to reliably protect the child from scuffs, allergies, and other troubles. Be patient, with the onset of the year, care will become easier.

Overview of safe laundry detergents for children's clothes

The choice of a gentle product for baby clothes depends on the state of health of the baby. Any aggressive substances that get on the skin are instantly absorbed. They cause itching, rashes, flaky areas, redness. The main part of household chemicals releases substances that enter the lungs, bronchi when inhaled. Such exposure can cause a weakening of the immune system, respiratory allergies.

How to wash diapers and undershirts of a newborn, so as not to harm his health? The following resources will come to the aid of caring mothers:

  • laundry soap, children's;
  • liquid gel, powder.

Soap

The old household version of soap contains a large amount of alkali, fatty acids. Thanks to these indicators, it has good antibacterial qualities. You can’t use it to wash a child, but it’s easy to remove an old stain from regurgitation, food, and other complex contaminants with it. A clear drawback is an unpleasant smell that is rinsed out and weathered.

Pay close attention to the composition - dyes, bleaches, flavors should not be present.

Baby soap is the most preferred means for caring for a baby and his clothes. It does not contain dangerous dyes, aromatic substances, dangerous synthetics. The composition contains:

  • plant extract of string, calendula, chamomile flowers, which have restorative, antiseptic properties;
  • boric acid, liquid glycerin, useful lanolin, vegetable oil as softeners.

The resulting foam draws out the dirt, then is washed out of the fibers.

The disadvantage is that it does not work when removing difficult stains: fruit juice, puree, other food. In the first months of life, the baby secretes saliva, milk, urine, feces, which soap can easily cope with if the thing is immediately washed or soaked.

To eliminate stains on light-colored clothes, boric acid, soda, aspirin, hydrogen peroxide are used. The folk method is safe to use, will not harm the baby. Any natural product is preferable to chemical.

Powders and gels

A safe product should have special marks on the packaging. Check that the composition does not contain hazardous substances: chlorine (dries, provokes itching, irritation), phosphate additives (suppress the protective properties of the skin), optical brightener (poorly washed out of the fabric, affects skin health).

A-surfactant may be present in a minimal amount.

Popular brands:

  1. Peanut. For its manufacture, a soap base is used. Hand washing with it is accompanied by a sore throat and nasopharynx.
  2. Eared nanny. It removes any old stain well, but parents often complain that it causes allergies and itching. Perhaps its use after a year.
  3. TAID for children. Enriched with chamomile extract, non-onogenic, biodegradable surfactants, which is safe for the baby, it contains optical brighteners that leave a pungent odor.
  4. Stork. Safe powder with a slight aroma. Aloe extract is added to soften the water. You can wash flannel, knitwear, chintz. Do not process silk, wool products. Of the options presented, this is the safest.

Gels and powders from BabyLine, Amway, Sodasan, Garden, Our Mom are considered popular, safe. The price of products is high, but it is offset by economical consumption.

At what temperature to wash

Cotton, which is the main wardrobe of the child, can withstand treatment in warm water, the maximum figure on the thermometer is 60 0 C. If the water is hot, the fabric may shed, lose color, colder - will not completely remove stains. Flannel diaper, bike are better cleaned in hot water.

The ideal option for washing in the machine on the "Delicate" mode. It is suitable for refreshing things after wearing. If there is dirt, put the machine on the "Children's clothes" program. It will carefully, effectively remove the old smell of urine, feces, put in order "capricious" things.

If you choose the right processing temperature, washing powder, things will retain their appearance for a long time, they will not lose their shape.

How to remove old stains from diapers

If the newborn soiled the diaper or clothes, and the mother forgot to wash it immediately and soak it, an ugly yellow mark forms on the surface. It is useless to remove with soap, powder, a homemade recipe will do.

Pour into container:

  • chlorine-free bleach in the amount of 2 tablespoons;
  • washing powder ¼ cup;
  • high-quality expensive stain remover 20 ml;
  • vegetable oil 20 ml.

Pour this mixture with five liters of water, put on the stove, bring to a boil, stirring occasionally with a wooden spatula. Put things in the pot. Hold until the water temperature drops to room temperature. If the trace is old, cannot be removed, leave the diaper in the solution for a day.

Such washing of children's clothes from stains is allowed in isolated situations, strictly for light fabrics. After treatment, wash thoroughly with soap and rinse.

How to wash clothes for newborns before the hospital

Many mothers are interested in the question of how and when to wash things for a newborn before the hospital.

Undershirts, sliders, diapers are subject to processing. New things are starched to maintain shape; it is forbidden to put them on the delicate skin of the baby. The fabric went through cutting, sewing, packaging, repurchase, and many other stages until it fell into hands.

A washing machine will help remove germs. Remember to turn on the extra rinse, use safe detergents!

After drying, iron with steam from the inside, front side. High temperature will finally kill dangerous microbes, bacteria and make the fabric soft and tender.

Going to the hospital, put diapers, outerwear, underwear separately. They have different purposes, in the first year they must be stored and washed separately.

What to prefer: machine wash or hand wash

Home appliances make our lives much easier. Thanks to automatic machines, baby care has become easier and more enjoyable. Moms and grandmothers washed by hand, still recommend this experience to new mothers.

The machine rinses out better than a person, squeezes out clothes, removing traces of powder without residue. There is a significant drawback - it is not hygienic. All household items, shoes of family members are processed in the drum. Experts recommend that before processing children's things, scroll the machine for nothing or using not very dirty laundry.

The appearance of a child always brings a lot of changes to the life of the family, and after returning from the hospital, it is very important to provide good care for the baby. Baby's skin is very sensitive, so washing is one of the first problems. How and with what to wash the things of a newborn so that they are clean and the detergent does not harm?

When choosing a detergent for children's clothes, you must carefully read its composition and characteristics.

What to wash?

For washing diapers and clothes for newborns, you need to use special products for at least six months of age (see also:). Today we have various options, but this choice comes down to two main ones: soap and washing powder. It is important to understand what requirements a product suitable for babies should meet. The main requirements for the tool:

  • the absence of aggressive components, including chlorine;
  • hypoallergenicity;
  • light rinsing;
  • low content (or better, complete absence) of fragrances;
  • high quality washing without negative impact on the quality of the material.

What tool to choose?

All of the above requirements are met by an old tool that has been proven for decades - regular baby soap and is suitable for both hand and machine washing. Of course, using soap in a car requires some preparation. What is good baby soap?

  • Firstly, it provides complete safety for the health of your baby.
  • Secondly, the modern assortment of this product is quite diverse and allows you to choose “pure” soap or with herbal additives - for example, string or chamomile.

Laundry soap also has a completely natural composition. You can use it, but only one that does not have any additives. Children's skin is very sensitive, and such soap contains coarser components that are more difficult to rinse out - in particular, it has a high alkali content, which, even remaining on the fabric in minimal quantities, irritates the skin. Therefore, when using it, it is necessary to ensure thorough rinsing so that the skin of the newborn does not come into contact with the components of the detergent.

Laundry soap will cope with the most difficult stains, while not harming the crumbs. Is it important to rinse things well?

It is best to use such soap when washing or washing very dirty things and stubborn stains, and for the main procedure for putting things in order for a baby, you should give preference to a special baby one. It is produced with the appropriate labeling and does not harm children's skin.

How to use baby soap?

So, baby soap can be used for both hand and machine washing. With manual, everything is simple: take a whole bar of soap, lather the soiled diapers or clothes of the child. Machine wash is also not difficult: you just need to rub a bar of soap on a fine grater. It will turn out a kind of powder, which is poured into the compartment for washing powder. For 5 kilograms of dry laundry, you will need about a third of a standard piece of baby soap.

washing powder

Of course, washing powder should be specially designed for newborn clothes - in this case, your baby will be safe. Today, the manufacturer offers us a fairly large selection of baby powders. When buying, you need to consider some nuances and recommendations:

  • if possible, choose a proven product;
  • make a purchase in a supermarket or a specialized store where you can be provided with all the information and documents you are interested in;
  • do not hesitate to check the availability of certificates of conformity and their expiration dates;
  • always check the expiration date of the powder;
  • make sure that the powder is suitable for washing things for newborns from 0 (this must be confirmed by the appropriate label);
  • choose a product labeled "hypoallergenic".

Be careful! If you notice any signs of an allergy in your baby, the detergent may be the cause. Try changing it or doing a more thorough rinse. If even minor allergy symptoms appear, special children's washing powders should be used for up to one and a half, or even up to three years.

If the baby does not have allergy symptoms, the product can be used to regularly wash his clothes.

We wash children's clothes

When washing clothes for a newborn, certain requirements must be observed that will ensure cleanliness and safety for the child. All children's clothes are washed separately from adults; there should also be a separate basket for folding the contaminated things of the baby. General washing rules are as follows:

  • temperature regime;
  • correct choice of machine program;
  • regularity.

At what temperature to wash? Hand wash should take place at the highest possible temperature, usually 40-50C. Machine wash will be optimal at 80-90C, as it will provide the effect of boiling, that is, sufficient cleanliness in terms of germs.

Machine mode

Today, every home has a washing machine, which makes life much easier for the family. It’s good when your machine has a special “baby wash” program, but if this is not the case, then you need to choose a program in accordance with the composition of the fabric and the desired temperature. Underwear for newborns, as a rule, is made from natural fibers, so the mode for such fabrics with a high temperature is selected.

If possible, it is worth choosing a program in which a more thorough rinse occurs, but it is better to run an additional rinse anyway in order to completely rid the children's clothes of detergent residue. Do not load the washing machine to the maximum, then the rinse will be better.

How often should you wash?

  • Laundry and clothes of the newborn will have to be washed daily. If the baby was wearing sliders or a vest today, then the next day you need to put on new ones, and these should be washed, even if they look clean.
  • Bed linen is changed at least once a week if it is not dirty.
  • Everything that is dirty should immediately go to the laundry, you should not save up children's things - you need to wash it within a day.

What to do with diapers?

If the baby described the diaper, then it already needs to be washed. Such diapers are rinsed in cold water and then washed with soap or powder by hand or in a typewriter. For the best effect, the diapers are soaked for 15 minutes. It is very important to rinse thoroughly several times, gradually lowering the temperature of the water.

If your baby pooped and soiled the diaper, then it should immediately be thoroughly washed in cold water. Hot at this stage will only fix the stains, and they can remain on the fabric forever, then it will be impossible to wash off. After this procedure, dirty diapers will be easier to wash. Following the rules for washing clothes for newborns will help the child grow up healthy.
