Hedgehog Syoma is made of felt and faux fur. Small and not at all prickly, it can become a cute toy for a baby or a fun one. The hedgehog attached bright autumn leaves made of felt to its needles; if desired, the hedgehog can be decorated with a mushroom or an apple.

Sewing a hedgehog with your own hands is not at all difficult; even children can handle this work.

To sew a hedgehog from felt, you will need:

• felt in gray, red and green colors
• artificial fur gray
• stuffing material
• scissors, needle and thread
• green and orange “Iris” threads
• two black beads
• piece of black fabric
• thick cardboard

Print out the hedgehog pattern.

We cut out the details of the hedgehog as follows, not forgetting the seam allowances:

• Item 1 – two pieces in a mirror image made of gray felt.
• Item 2 – two pieces in mirror image made of fur.
• Item 3 – one piece made of fur.
• Parts 4 and 5 – one piece each made of gray felt.
• We cut out the leaves from red and green felt without stitches.

We sew together parts 1 and 2, parts 3 and 5 with a seam over the edge.

We sew the resulting three parts together, sew on part 4, leaving about 3 cm unsewn at the back of the hedgehog’s body in order to turn it inside out, insert the cardboard base and stuff it.

Cut out part 4 from thick cardboard.

We turn the hedgehog inside out. We insert the cardboard into the hedgehog's body. Cardboard is needed to make the hedgehog's tummy flat. We stuff the hedgehog's body with stuffing material.

Sew up the hole with a blind stitch.

Sew on black eye beads. We cut out a circle from a piece of black fabric, gather its edges with a thread, put a ball of padding material inside it, tighten the thread, and secure it with several stitches. It turns out to be a nose. Sew it to the hedgehog's face.

Using colored “Iris” threads, we embroider the veins on the leaves using a “forward needle” stitch.

Sew the leaves onto the back of the hedgehog. The felt hedgehog is ready! A wonderful gift for any holiday, for example, March 8th.

Do soft toy hedgehog you can do it yourself, having only at hand small pieces fabrics and furs. In our case, the fur will imitate the spines of a hedgehog. Download the hedgehog patterns presented below, adjust the scale you need for your work, and then, after making the patterns, cut out the required number of parts. Don't forget about seam allowances, which should be approximately 5-7 millimeters. It is best to stuff a ready-made sewn hedgehog with padding polyester.



It is very easy and quick to sew a beautiful soft hedgehog from an ordinary sock, as for example shown in the photo below. This craft does not need a pattern.

You can sew a cute soft hedgehog yourself if you try a little. To create it you will need very little material. Faux fur will serve as a fur coat (in this case, not prickly, but fluffy). The hedgehog's body should be made of a soft, pleasant material, such as fleece. For the eyes you will need regular beads. For stuffing we will prepare padding polyester. First you need to cut out the details of the future hedgehog. You can do this using this pattern:



The pattern shows that the belly will consist of two parts, and the fur coat will also consist of two. The bottom means one piece, the arms and feet - four pieces each, the legs - two pieces and a small round nose. We sew the parts together and stuff the toy with synthetic padding. Well, while there are no answers, I’ll share what I personally managed to find on the Internet. In fact, making any soft toy is not so difficult, the main thing is to have a pattern for the toy itself and a little perseverance in order to cut everything out and sew it properly.

Sew Martin the Hedgehog according to the pattern. The soft toy Martin the Hedgehog is made from velor or fleece, and for the fur part, where the hedgehog has needles, you need to find good fur or mohair fabric. Any fabric with long or short pile will do, because a hedgehog can look like a porcupine or a hedgehog whose quills are smoothed.

• a small piece of black leather;
• empty blaster for small tablets;
• ground natural coffee;
• padding polyester;
• pins and needles for hand sewing;
• sewing threads in white and beige colors;
• transparent universal glue “Dragon”;
• black permanent marker;
• white stationery proofreader;
• scissors;
• stationery knife;
• blue acrylic paint and a pencil;
• a sheet of cardboard and a pen.

Step-by-step master class on sewing and decorating

Creating a Hedgehog in the Fog toy consists of several stages.

Preparing the textile base

On a cardboard sheet, draw the outline of the hedgehog’s body and one detail of the front paw. The figure is simple, so you can do without a pattern. Clarity is not required, since coffee pots are primitive.

Carefully cut out the parts. It's better to make a small toy.

Prepare a white cloth. It is better to use old leftovers, such as a worn white sheet. The fact is that worn-out fabric, washed many times, absorbs liquid well and will color more evenly. Fold the material in two layers. Draw one part of the body and two blanks of the front legs. Secure the layers with pins and cut out the Hedgehog's body with scissors.

Hand sew the legs. Use a needle back stitch. Turn the pieces inside out and loosely fill them with padding polyester.

Use the same seam to sew the body of the textile Hedgehog. When sewing, do not forget to sew on one of the front legs. Leave the hole for turning inside out in the place where the second leg is attached.

Carefully turn the base right side out.

Stuff the hedgehog with bluepon through the hole. Sew the second front leg using an invisible seam.

Brew strong coffee without sugar. Using a sponge or cotton wool, stain the toy with coffee drink. If the color appears unsaturated after drying, repeat the staining procedure. Leave until completely dry.

Fur decoration technique

You can use almost any fur, faux or natural, with a relatively long pile. Raccoon fur from the hood of some used jacket is perfect. Cut a strip equal to the height of the toy. From the side of the head, make a strip of fur already 1-1.5 cm deep. You cannot cut the fur with scissors, there is a risk of cutting off the pile. Cut from the wrong side with a stationery knife.

In order for the fur to fluff up beautifully on the head and below, first wrap it inward and secure the ends of the strip by 1 centimeter with thread. Sew a strip down the center of one side of the hedgehog-shaped coffee toy. Use a regular overlock stitch.

How to breathe life into a new friend

The eyes of a coffee hedgehog can be simply drawn or made voluminous. To do this, take an empty tablet blister. Use a pencil to line up two plastic containers. Cut out small circles from black leather and apply white dots on them using a stationery corrector. Place the leather pupils in plastic containers and apply clear all-purpose glue around the edges. Place a piece of white cardboard on top. Let the glue dry a little.

Cut out voluminous eyes. The glue should not dry completely, otherwise the bottom of the eyes may fall off when cutting out. If the glue is not completely dry, you can still glue it even if the edges of the eye parts come apart. Using the same glue, attach the eyes to the muzzle and draw a nose with a black marker. You can use acrylic or textile paints instead of stationery.

Draw the mouth.

Make a bag for your Hedgehog toy with your own hands from a square of white cotton fabric. Place the padding polyester on the square, fold the bag and secure with white thread.

Decorate the box with blue acrylic paint.

Sew the bag to the front legs.

“Hedgehog in the Fog” is a cult animated film that was recognized as the best cartoon of all time at the Laputa Animation Festival held in Tokyo in 2003, for which the author, Yuri Norshtein, became a Knight of the Order of the Rising Sun.

To be honest, as a child I didn’t like this cartoon at all, and I didn’t understand it... Having rewatched “The Hedgehog” in more mature age, unconditionally fell in love with all the characters, the dialogues and, of course, the amazing work of the animator. It is not surprising that the hedgehog himself has become a cult character and today I offer you my version of this hero.

There will be a lot of photographs in this master class. Many people probably won’t understand why I show my actions in such detail, but I want even complete beginners to be able to create their own hedgehog.

So! Let's be patient, give us 10 hours of time, and let's get started!

For work we will need:

• Hedgehog mohair
• Viscose (preferably mustard color) or minishtof
• A small piece of white leather/suede/minishtofa/leatherette
• Glass eyes on a 5 mm loop
• Cardboard disks 4 pcs. size 10 mm.
• Metal T-shaped cotter pins 2 pcs. size 15 mm
• Sawdust
• Metal granulate
• Oil paint color "Mars brown light", fabric outline red
• Threads, needles, scissors large and small, awl, pliers, brush, PVA glue, Moment glue
• Linen or cotton for the leaf and bag.
• Small button (if the bag will be attached to the paw)
• Copper wire

That's all! We can get started!

1. Cut out the pattern and transfer it to the fabric in accordance with the direction of the pile.

2. Cut out all the parts, leaving room for allowance

3. From the parts of the body, cut the pile “to zero” to the width of the allowance. This is done so that the parts fit together as tightly as possible after stitching and the seam is not visible after stuffing.


4. On the parts of the body it is necessary to make holes for cotter pins that will secure the upper legs.

5. These holes must be glued so that the fabric does not “creep” in these places over time, and it will be much easier to find these holes when installing the paws.

6. We cut the pile on the outside of the body to the size of the disc, for the most snug fit of the paws to the body.

7. On the inner sides of the upper legs, use an awl to make holes for the cotter pins and glue the hole in the same way.

8. We arrange the parts in pairs, sew them together and turn them inside out.

9. Insert discs with cotter pins into the upper legs

10. We stuff the upper and lower limbs. When stuffing the upper presser feet, it is important not to put sawdust between the disc and the fabric.

All limbs must be tightly stuffed so that pressing on them with your fingers does not cause any deformation!

11. Sew up the holes on the paws

12. Using a needle or awl, pull out the pile from all the seams.

13. Since the paws turned out to be very shaggy, we cut off the excess lint with small scissors

14. Now that the paws look quite elegant, you can sew a button to one of the upper paws on which the bag will be attached. (if there is no button, the bag can be sewn to the foot or tied with a ribbon)


15. Attach the upper legs to the body

This is what you should get:

16. Before you start stuffing the carcass with sawdust, you need to weigh it down with granules, then our hedgehog will have a pleasant “live” weight. To do this, you need to sew a small cotton bag and pour granules into it. The amount of granulate is purely to your taste.

17. After the bag with granulate is sewn up, we lower it into the hedgehog’s body, placing it inside at the very bottom of the body.

18. Now you can start stuffing the hedgehog. The sawdust needs to be thrombosed inside as best as possible. The hedgehog should not deform when squeezed in your hand. Ideally, the touch should create a feeling of wood inside.

19. Sew up the body. We try to do this carefully so that the lint does not get into the seam. Afterwards we clean the pile from sawdust.

20. Now we can start working on the lower legs. In order to sew them evenly and tightly, you need to cut out the space for them along the dart at the bottom of the body.

21. Fasten the foot with a pin and sew in a circle.

We do the same with the second paw

22. Now we will put the muzzle in order. First, let's remove the lint from all the seams.

The hedgehog turned out to be very hairy, so we cut off the excess hair first along the contour of the face

and then throughout the entire area

Is there really a difference? We also make the other side of the muzzle beautiful)

23. Next, you need to form indentations for the eyes on the muzzle. We press well the place where the eyes will be with something hard and round; for this I use the handle of pliers.

24. Now in the center of our eye sockets we need to make holes for the eyes with an awl and glue them.

25. Let's move on to tinting. We will do the tinting in 3 layers so that the muzzle is beautifully darkened and smooth transitions from light to dark are created. Before planting the eyes, we will apply 2 layers of paint to the face.

So, squeeze out a small amount of Mars Brown Light paint onto a napkin and while the excess oil comes out (10-15 minutes) we can take a coffee break and admire the work already done


We cut off the brush almost at the root. Dip into the paint and squeeze until the brush almost stops leaving paint on the paper.

We tint the upper part of the muzzle, as if dividing the nose into two parts and along the contour of the muzzle at the needles.

Afterwards, we repeat the entire procedure, applying a second layer of paint slightly higher than the first, so that it turns out smooth transition colors

26. Let's put the hedgehog aside for a while and take care of the eyes. The hedgehog should have clear white circles around its eyes. To do this, on leather/suede/mini-shtofa or, like mine, leatherette, draw two circles with a mark in the center.

Because I have leatherette reverse side I glue it with PVA


We cut out our round pieces, make holes in the center and insert eyes into them.

27. Let's take our hedgehog again. Make a mark on the muzzle in the place where the mouth will be

28. Because Now we are going to put eyes on the hedgehog, you need to take a large needle and a strong thread (long and preferably double)

We insert the needle from behind in the place where we began to sew up the body and bring it out into the hole we prepared under the eye, leaving a small tip of 10-15 cm at the back.

We string the eye and insert the needle again into the same hole in the eye socket and bring it out to the place where we marked under the mouth (1 mm from the central seam)

Now we insert the needle from the other side of the central suture, also retreating 1 mm, and bring the needle into the free eye socket

We string the eye and insert the needle again into the same hole in the eye socket and bring it back to the back 3 - 5 mm from the left end of the thread

Now we pull both threads very tightly and tie double knot and remove the remaining threads into the body. As a result, we get a completely recognizable face

29. Now let's embroider the nose. To do this, you can take both floss threads and simple ones, the main thing is that they are of a contrasting color.

30. And back to tinting again. This is the final part of the hedgehog design.

To begin, carefully apply paint to the embroidered nose.

Then, apply a third layer of paint to the muzzle, also moving slightly upward from the previous layer.

The only thing missing is the tinting around the mouth. We tint)) 3 layers: 1 - a stripe from the nose to the mouth, 2 - a droplet from the mouth to the nose, but shorter than the first layer, 3 - only inside the mouth.

This is what our hedgehog looks like now:

31. Notice how much the color of the paws now differs. This needs to be fixed. We tint the paws along the entire perimeter along the seam, also in 3 layers.

32. Let's admire the result a little.

33. We’ve finished admiring it, the hedgehog doesn’t have his bag of raspberry jam yet!

Take a piece of cotton or linen (I “stain” the fabric a little in coffee or tea in advance), transfer the pattern

Draw polka dots using a red outline on the fabric (if someone has white fabric with red polka dots, they’re lucky)

In order to secure the design, after drying, iron it from the inside out with an iron.

Cut it out

Instead of a jar of jam, I use a wooden bead, you can just put cotton wool or something else inside


Beautifully tie and sew on the button

And we tint the bag itself a little

35. Finished admiring! The hedgehog doesn't have a stand! I suggest making a stand in the shape of an autumn darkened oak leaf.

To do this, take coarse linen/cotton or any other dense, non-stretchy fabric (I use denim). We transfer the leaf pattern to the fabric, folding it (the fabric) in half.

Then we cut off a piece of copper wire and bend it, repeating the main bend of the leaf.

Remember that the fabric is folded in half? We open it and pour glue inside along the bend of the leaf, put a wire on it and sew it inside the fabric

If desired, and I think it should happen, we reinforce all the side branches of the leaf skeleton with thinner wire

We glue together all the parts of the fabric over the area of ​​the leaf that are left without reinforcement

It is advisable, for greater reliability, to also stitch the leaf along the contour

Cover the leaf with paint on both sides (I use gold spray paint)

After drying, use the oil paint used to tint the hedgehog to make the leaf more natural

We wait for the leaf to dry, cover it with varnish and cut it out

Bend it into a stand

36. And now, with a clear conscience, we begin to admire the result!))
