How to make a pattern for a children's Panama hat

The pattern of this model of Panama hat is simple, and the hat itself will be sewn from just two identical parts. So that you can immediately start sewing a Panama hat, I am enclosing a completely free pattern for this Panama hat. The pattern is without allowances, do not forget to add them while cutting.

In order for you to have a pattern for this Panama hat, you will need a printer and tape.
If you have both, then select each pattern image and save them to your computer's "Desktop" or in a special folder. Then open each image in any graphics editor, such as Paint, and print them at full size (100%).

Sizes: B - (solid line) pattern for a child 12-24 months. K - (dashed line) pattern for a child 2-4 years old, C - from 4 to 6 years old

Pay attention to the points 20cm (15cm) and 23cm. These are control values necessary for checking the pattern after printing on the printer. If, after printing the pattern, the bottom horizontal of the left part is equal to 20 cm (the right - 15 cm), and the vertical (the line connecting both parts of the pattern) is equal to 23 cm, then the dimensions of the pattern are correct. If these data are slightly different, then you will need to adjust the printer's printing parameters or expand the pattern in any way you know, for example, cutting it (in glued form) vertically and horizontally and moving the parts apart a little.

Both parts of the pattern are glued together with tape, then outlined on the fabric and this part is turned along the fold line. Add allowances (1cm) along the contour and cut out.

To avoid damaging the paper, print this test square first. If its sides are 13 cm, then you can print the details of the Panama hat pattern.

Technology of sewing children's summer panama hat

It’s not at all difficult to sew this panama hat with your own hands; just cut out two identical parts of the hat from the same material or combine them as in my master class.
Then pin them together, or baste them, placing both pieces right sides together.

Stitch these parts to sewing machine along the winding contour of the panama hat, with an allowance of 1 cm, as shown in the photo.
Be sure to leave a small area unsewn, within 5-7 cm.

To make the Panama hat look neat in finished form, be sure to notch the areas concave inward, as shown in this photo. Score carefully so as not to cut the seam thread.

Convex areas, on the contrary, need to be cut off. In this case, these curved areas will be laid out well.

How to properly unscrew a Panama hat

Now you will need to find the hole left unstitched and turn the Panama hat onto your face through it.

Turn inside out carefully so as not to tear the connecting seam.

This is how the Panama hat turned out, outwardly somewhat similar to a stingray.

Finishing stitch along the edge of the hat

To ensure that the seam is laid out neatly and evenly, be sure to secure it with oblique stitches after turning the hat inside out, as shown in the photo.

Iron along the contour of the Panama hat, making sure that the seam runs exactly along the edge.

The hole through which you turned the hat inside out also needs to be ironed, with the same allowance.

You will have to sew up the hole manually, using neat, invisible stitches.

After this, all you have to do is make one or two finishing lines along the outline of the panama hat.

Place the finishing stitch along the edge of the panama hat on the wrong side, retreating 2 mm from the edge. If you are only going to do one line, you can back off a little more.

It seems to me that the edge of the panama hat, processed with two finishing lines, will be more beautiful.

How to make button loops on a Panama hat

The Panama hat pattern has a buttonhole marking for each of the three hat sizes. Transfer this marking to the Panama hat, mark the length of the loop and sew the loop on a sewing machine.

Now, using a seam ripper, you need to cut the loops, making sure not to damage the loop threads.

How to adjust the size of a Panama hat

If you make a mistake with the size of the hat, or your child grows up, the size of the hat can be easily changed.

To do this, just increase or decrease the distance between the buttons that you sewed onto the back section of the panama hat.

This is how cute and original this hat will look on the back of your child or doll’s head.

It is better to put soft cotton fabric inside such a panama hat.

This Panama hat is suitable not only for men, but also for women who prefer a sporty style.

Look at the photo, the Panama hat fits tightly on your head, so it won’t fly off in the wind, the wide brim reliably protects from the sun, and the denim fabric and cotton lining allow air to pass through perfectly.

The given size of the panama hat pattern from jeans is suitable for sizes 58-60. If your measurements are larger or smaller, you can adjust the size of the Panama hat when trying it on.

Construct the details of the pattern on paper, there should be three of them: crown, brim and bottom; cut out.

Open the old jeans at the seams and cut out the details: 1 piece. bottom; 2 children crown and 2 children. fields. Since I had a lot of fabric, I cut out the crown from 4 parts, instead of the required 2.

Do not forget about the seam allowances on each side of the part - about 0.7-1 cm.

Cut out the lining along the top parts. For lining fabric it is best to use natural fabrics- chintz, linen, calico, satin, etc. If the fabric is new, it must be washed and ironed with a hot iron to avoid shrinkage when washing the Panama hat.

How to sew a men's Panama hat from jeans, master class

We sew the parts of the crown from the main and lining fabrics, press the seams and, if desired, stitch them.

To the crown of denim baste the bottom. We do a fitting. If everything is satisfactory, we attach it using a sewing machine. If you are not satisfied with the size, we sew it in or sew it at the seams, achieving a good fit to the head.

The seams can be sewn off if desired.

We do the same with the lining fabric parts.

We glue interlining with an adhesive base to the details of the fields made of lining fabric.

We sew the fields of the main and lining fabric along the short sides, and press the seams.

We baste and then grind the edges of the brim along the flyaway using a sewing machine, trimming the seam allowances to 3 mm.

Sew the top edge of the brim, connecting the parts of the top and lining.

We baste and then use a sewing machine to sew the brim to the denim parts (crown + bottom).

Make sure that side seams and the middle parts coincided!

Then we sew the crown allowance from the lining fabric with oblique stitches.

We trim the brim of the Panama hat with finishing stitches to the width of the foot.

That's all! As you can see, after spending very little time, sew men's Panama hat Anyone can make their own jeans.

For summer: hat, cap, Panama, bandana. Patterns

Hat. At any time of the year, on the streets of the city, beaches, cafes, you can meet a representative of the fairer sex in a headdress that has come to us through centuries of thorns. We are talking about a women's hat with a brim, which is popular among women, especially in the summer, during the beach season.
It turns out that sewing a hat with a brim is not so difficult. To do this, we will need a small amount of material that you will come up with yourself, at your discretion, a hat pattern and, of course, good mood. The hat pattern we propose consists of three parts: the bottom, the crown and the brim.
After a little time and considerable effort, you will get a completely stylish women's hat with a brim that can be worn almost anywhere. Most importantly, it will protect your head from the sun, rain, and wind.

Cap

Throughout the twentieth century, the cap was a headdress for different layers and classes of society. It was worn by leaders and presidents, punks and thieves, athletes and scientists. Everyone managed to use this headdress as the main, unshakable attribute of outerwear.
Today, absolutely everyone wears a cap: from children to pensioners and the elderly. As a rule, the caps in the city's stores are the same. There is no one that no one else has. And women want individuality. You have to search the Internet for a cap pattern and start sewing. This is what we will do now!
As for the pattern, you don’t need to look for it, it’s there. It is from this cap pattern that we will create a new headdress that no one else in your city has! This cap pattern consists of ten parts: six wedges, two visors and two bands.
It is very easy to sew a cap using the presented pattern. The main thing is to know what's what. The first thing to do is transfer the cap pattern onto paper, leaving 1 centimeter for the seams. Then you need to sew the wedges together. This will be the bottom of our cap. Then you need to sew on the lining of the cap. The most important part is the visor. It needs to be cut out and carefully sewn. In order for the cap visor to be rigid, you need to make a special non-woven insert of the same size. If you don't have it, you can use regular cardboard. Then we attach the visor to the crown. There is a band for them. That's all! The cap is ready!
So, using a cap pattern, we sewed a new headdress that can be worn whenever and wherever!

Panama

Summer in Russia can be very hot. Sometimes, you don’t even want to go outside. I just want to lie down on the couch and sleep all day. Only in the evening the sun sometimes reduces the level of exposure to its bright rays, and people roll out into the streets.
But you have to walk in hot weather, at its highest peak. Either to work, then to the grocery store, or even just to the city beach to sunbathe. Every time we go outside on a sultry hot day, we have the opportunity to get a violent sunstroke and end up in the hospital. To prevent such incidents from happening, people came up with light summer a Panama hat, which I suggest you sew at your leisure.
Using the Panama hat pattern I suggested, you can easily and quickly sew a stylish, lightweight, and most importantly, sun-safe hat. Patterning a Panama hat will help you correctly assess all the sizes and dimensions of fabrics and materials.

Bandana

The bandana itself, as an element of clothing, entered people’s lives long before the advent of berets, caps and hats. Its roots stretch back to the days of the wild west, when travelers protected their respiratory tract from dust by tying a bandana around their neck.
Today it is used more often for decorative and aesthetic purposes rather than for protection from the sun and dust. Although, to give it its due, after many years, the bandana does not cease to be one of the best headwear that interrupts the scorching rays of the sun. Using this bandana pattern, you can sew it in half an hour.
Of course, this is the time that will go into sewing the bandana itself. For sewing you need to select a material. In principle, any elastic, but not dense fabric is suitable for this headdress. It can be leather, linen, soft drape, denim. Whatever you want, the main thing is that the material meets these two important qualities.
After working with the bandana pattern, you can process its edges and apply decorative accessories at your discretion. That's all! The bandana is ready! Now you can wear it on your head, covering your head from the scorching sun in the hot summer, on your belt, on your neck or arm. The main thing is that it matches your clothing style.

Cap and four-piece Panama hat
Wedge width = Head circumference: 4 + 1 cm

Constructing a wedge pattern:

CAP

For a cap, you need to cut out a visor, the width of which is equal to the width
wedge The insert for the visor can be cut out of a plastic bottle.

Sew the wedges in pairs, make a semicircular shape on one of the wedges
hole, which is processed by turning, after inserting
decorative elastic (strings, plastic fastener).
Sew the visor to the opposite wedge.
Finish the bottom with a facing. Place a raised stitch along the bottom.

If the top fabric is light, then you can similarly cut out the lining from
calico, fold the top (with the visor) and the lining facing inward and stitch,
leaving a hole for turning.

BANDANA

Cut 3-4 cm from the bottom of the wedge pattern.

Sew the wedges in pairs, make a semicircular cutout on one of the wedges, which is processed by turning.
Cut out a hem 6-8 cm wide and a length equal to the circumference of your head.
allowance for a loose fit (4 cm) plus two lengths of ties (15-20
cm).

Fold the facing in half lengthwise, facing inward. Sew to the length of the ties
decorating them at the ends with a bevel. Turn the facing out and work the bottom with it,
aligning the ends of the semicircular neckline and the beginning of the ties.

PANAMA

If the width of the margins is 3-4 cm, they will be sloping; with a larger width, the margins will bend upward.

Add the width of the field to the height of the wedge.
With this radius, draw a semicircle from the highest point of the wedge. This will be the line of the bottom cut of the fields.
Cut the field pattern as a separate piece.

Cut out the fields in the amount of 4 parts with a fold (2 upper and 2 lower).

Having sewn the side seams, the fields are folded facing inward. To the top
fields, put a pad of calico. Grind all three parts along the outer
contour. Turn the margins inside out, straighten the seam and baste it. By fields
lay several parallel lines with an interval of 0.5 cm.

Fold the panama, brim and facing facing inwards, with the edges facing outwards and stitch.
Turn the Panama hat inside out and iron the facing inside out. At the bottom of the facing
lay a seam, simultaneously grabbing the sections of the wedges and brim of the Panama hat.

Constructing a wedge pattern:

CAP

It is sewn similarly to a cap from four wedges. The insert for the visor is better
use the finished one and use it to make a visor pattern.

You can determine the width of the visor using the formula: “divide the head circumference by 4 + 1 cm.”
A semicircular cutout for the fastener must be made at the junction of two wedges opposite from the visor.

PANAMA

From the highest point of the wedge with a radius equal to the height of the wedge, draw
semicircle until it intersects with the sides of the wedge. It will be
the bottom line and the line of the internal cut of the fields.

Add the width of the field to the height of the wedge. Draw this radius
semicircle from the highest point of the wedge. This will be the bottom cut line
fields.

Cut the field pattern as a separate piece. This will be the third part for constructing the main field pattern.
Cut out the fields in the amount of 4 parts (2 upper and 2 lower).
It is sewn similarly to a Panama hat from four wedges.

PANAMA FLOWER

To create a pattern of petals, it is necessary to determine the central
wedge point along the bottom line. From this point with a radius of "half the width
wedge + 1 cm” draw a semicircle. This will be the bottom cut of the petal.

From the top point of the wedge with the radius of the wedge height, draw a semicircle to
intersections with the side cuts of the wedge. This will be the bottom cut of the wedge.
Continue the line further until it intersects - this will be an internal cut
petal

Cut the petal pattern as a separate piece. Cut the petals into
quantity of 12 parts (6 upper and 6 lower). Upper details of petals
glue with interlining.

Fold the upper and lower parts of the petals facing inward and stitch along
bottom cut. Turn the petal out, straighten the seam and stitch it.

Fold the petals opposite each wedge so that the edge of one touches the edge of the other and stitch.
Treat the bottom of the Panama hat with facing or lining.

BANDANA WITH METAL BLOCKS

Pattern width = Head circumference + 20 cm
Height = Head circumference

General diagram of the model:

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The blocks are placed in pairs at equal distances around the circumference, radius
which is equal to half the circumference of the head with an allowance for a loose fit
2 cm.

A cord is threaded through the blocks and its ends are secured with clips.

During the hot season or even just on the eve of summer, the safety of our and children's heads is important. Some protect them by covering them with a scarf, some with a cap, some with a hat, and some simply make panama hats from newspaper. Any way is good!

In this article we will look at how to sew a hat.

All calculations and patterns are suitable for head circumferences of 38, 42, 46, 48 and 52 cm.

If you look at the details of the pattern of a children's hat, you can see the dependence of the increase in size. You can also change the head circumference to 54, 56.

In the image of part #3 you can see that the drawing is slightly cropped. It did not fit on the A4 format, but it is also possible to complete it yourself. All 3 patterns are on A4 format. Just print and cut along the required lines.

Materials for sewing a hat

Fabric 150 cm wide and 30 cm long for a Panama hat, interlining, ribbon 1 cm wide and 70 cm long for decoration.
Number of parts: 1 - upper part of the crown (circle) - 1 piece, 2 - lower part of the crown with a bend - 1 piece, 3 - fields with a bend - 2 pieces.
The fold is the dotted line on the drawing. This side of the pattern must be placed on the fold of the fabric.

Lay out on the fabric as shown in the picture, just add one more piece 3. Cut out. Allowances 1 cm.

Sequence of sewing a Panama hat

1. Glue the parts of the Panama hat with non-woven material.

2. Sew the back middle seam on the bottom of the crown. Seam width -1 cm. Press seams. If necessary, process their edges with an overlocker.

3. Pin and sweep the top and bottom parts of the crown, slightly pressing bottom part. Machine stitch. Remove the basting. Overlock the cuts. Turn the allowances to the bottom of the crown and set aside the finishing stitch.

4. On the brim of the Panama hat, sew the back middle seams. Iron allowances.

5. The brim of the Panama hat connects face to face. Stitch the outer edges. Cut seam allowances to 0.2-0.3 cm. It is advisable to iron them with the tip of an iron - then the turned seam will lay out better. Turn out the margins. Place finishing stitches at equal distances from the edge of the brim.

6. Pin the open sections of the brim to the bottom of the crown of the Panama hat (face to face). Stitch and overlock the edges. Press the seam allowances onto the crown.

7. If desired, the last stitching seam can be covered with braid on the wrong side.

8. If you do not sew decorative tape on the front side, then at this stage you need to topstitch the seam with decorative stitching.
If you sew on a ribbon, the stitching will lie along its edge. It is practiced to insert a cord under the ribbon to adjust the width of the Panama hat, but this only works provided that the product is made of soft fabrics.

This style of Panama can also be made in another way.

Here master class on sewing a lined Panama hat.

The next 4 pictures with sketches differ in different styles. Take a closer look, perhaps you can decorate your product in a special way.

In preparation for this article, I studied a lot of material from the Internet. And since I'm only sharing a pattern that needs to be printed, it will be useful to familiarize yourself with other patterns that you can make yourself.

In the first drawing you can see that the fields are quite large sizes. They can be either increased or decreased.

Let me remind you that there is a technique for proportionally increasing parts (sides and lines). You need to calculate one side, which you will know exactly by size and find out the magnification factor.

For example, the drawing says that it should be 16 cm, but only 4 cm is drawn (attach a ruler and measure). This means that in actual size all dimensions (measured with a ruler in the figure) must be increased by 4 times.

And there is one more difference. In some patterns of panama hats they draw central part round, and in others oval. It's a matter of taste. It’s better to take a closer look at the purchased models and decide for yourself which ones he likes best.
Each model can also be decorated with lace, as in this picture.

Here's a selection Panama hat patterns I did it. If you have any questions, ask in the comments. And we also looked at how to sew a Panama hat. And if your daughters prefer scarves, then you can read the sequence of sewing them in this one. So all that remains is to look for fabric and head to the sewing machine!

Oh yes, for those who haven't sewing machine, I propose the sequence of making a panama hat from a newspaper.
