Susie bubble biography. Susie Bubble: “I don’t understand why everyone is shocked at the sight of revealing outfits. About the crisis of the street style genre

On June 30, a joint filming of the team took place at the “Library” restaurant complex in the center of St. PetersburgFollowers AndDozen fashion Agency. The former acted in an unusual role for themselves as models, while the latter did their usual thing - styling. But the shooting was not easy, but it was stellar. Editors Followers tried on the images of world famousfashion-figures.

Suzanne Lau, known in the fashion community as Susie Bubble , is a blogger from London. She started her blog in 2006, writing about her thoughts there, personal experience and about unknown young talents in the fashion world. In addition to blogging, Susie currently writes for Elle, The Daily Rubbish and Dazed Digital.

Susie loves to taste all sorts of unusual dishes, travel, take pictures of beautifully dressed people at various fashion weeks with her Canon and buy bright, unusual things, and then skillfully combine them into unusual images. She enjoys going to karaoke, eating peach jam and listening to Metronomy, Lykke Li and Connan Mockasin. Susie hates sports, shopping is her favorite physical activity. Heels are not cool! More often you can see her wearing ballet flats and boots or sneakers with an evening dress.

As Susie herself says, her “love of fashion was originally an act of rebellion against her parents and the ‘popular’ people at school.” She got her nickname - Bubble - in primary school, because I was always in the clouds, in my own world, in the world of BUBBLE!

Even today, you can often see Susie looking off into the distance, into space, concentrated on her special thoughts, or listening to her iPod, not paying attention to the things happening around her.

Asya Karavaeva, stylist at Dozen Fashion Agency:

“I have always been interested in street style, the most prominent representatives of which are bloggers. It will be interesting to keep track of which items from the runway each season will attract the most love from fashionistas, and what the presentation will be. After all, it’s completely one thing how designers present things on the catwalk, and another thing is what looks people create with these things in life. There is also the opposite phenomenon, trendsetting, when designers are inspired by the looks of trendsetters from the streets of various cities. One of the modern trendsetters is Susie Bubble.

The characteristic features of Susie's image are rather her appearance, thick bangs and a bun of hair. The images are so diverse that it is difficult to trace a common thread, but it can be noted that Bubble is not afraid bright colors, a lover of oversized things and prefers shoes without heels, this, in general, is not surprising with such a lifestyle. The look for Zhanna came out a little exaggerated; I wanted to reflect several street-style features, such as neon, the use of sportswear in the look, accessories and, of course, socks and sandals. It amuses me how a strict ban has become a trend for several seasons now. They didn’t leave the look without glasses, in round frames - as Dries Van Noten, Prada, Roberto Cavalli, Louis Vuitton say in the SS’13 collections.”

Jeanne Frost, chief editor of the site:

“Sometimes, looking through Susie's blog, I am amazed at her ability to combine so many striking details in one image. I like what she does and how she does it. Such individuals have always been ahead of the curve, anticipating trends and creating them themselves. Asya perfectly recreated the image of Susie, I had a lot of fun during the shoot, and great mood The whole team kept it for a few more days. As soon as I posted a couple of photos from the backstage on my Instagram, many people immediately recognized Susie! This means that we did a great job and hit the target.”

We thank the three-story project about food and culture in the very center of St. Petersburg BIBLIOTEKA food and the city and personally Svetlana Melnikova for her help in organizing the filming.

IN this moment The free-spirited and cheerful Susie Bubble (real name Susie Lau) is pregnant, and it’s always interesting to watch how fashion insiders play up their delicate situation with the most unexpected fashion innovations. Especially for the site, style expert Lyubov Romanova analyzed 2 successful and 2 not so successful decisions of the famous fashionista.

Luck: pop art style dress

Susie came up with a complete image: fractional inside, but in silhouette - simple and elegant, two in one. The photographic blue spot is balanced by the hair pulled back into a ponytail on the opposite side - very natural and balanced, and the pink stripe of the skirt at the bottom is like a pedestal on which sports symbolism is erected. By the way, this trapezoidal dress has “shredded” the tummy: it’s almost invisible here.

Popular

Luck: combining patterns

A stunning image: a combination of ornaments and patterns. The motifs are so well matched to each other that the impression of airiness and lightness of the image remains. The retro theme is eternal! A roll call of rhythms of delicate, infantile shades of pink, apple green, floral print and braid trim. The mix is touching and feminine - just right for pregnancy.

Failure: long white t-shirt

The aesthetics of the look are a loser... Symmetrical check + stripes of different widths - yes! But! The Chanel T-shirt was stretched on my tummy, apparently due to the unfortunate length, and the retro-style skirt with a counter pleat stood up like a stake. The background against which the bow is photographed does not help, although it rhymes with light and comfortable shoes.

Failure: many folds

Echoes of the work of Rei Kawakubo can be read in the voluminous coat and numerous folds in the form-building fabric of the sun-flared skirt (or is it a dress?)... The image would have looked more harmonious if the volume had remained only in front - to hide the tummy, but it would be more logical to emphasize the back with a clearer cut line. But Susie Lau has the right to something incongruous, she has definitely won the opportunity to be illogical!

Just today, while looking through my work folder, I came across a study on bloggers that I did while studying at the university. The project took no less than 150 pages, and all because now bloggers are not just some girls or boys who take pictures in their outfits. These are the heroes of our time who influence the opinions of millions (their subscribers), these millions earn money, actively collaborate with leading designers, create limited collections, and so on. But today we will not talk about the phenomenon of bloggers, although, of course, the topic is very interesting. We will meet a blogger who is a veteran of the blogosphere, along with Brian Boy and Tavi. Susie started her blog back in 2006, with the goal of creating some kind of creative space, as a form of self-realization. The first blogs were created this way, rather out of a “love of art”, a desire to show, to create something new. Susie is also interesting because she is not just a blogger in colorful and funny outfits, but a journalist who works for Dazed Digital (an online version of Dazed&Confused magazine, which, along with several other publications, is one of the most advanced magazines about modern fashion, art, lifestyle). If you look at her blog now, there are a lot of reviews of exhibitions, shows and simply interesting finds (just look at her selection of things based on the works of my beloved Sonia Delaunay).

Who: Susie Lau

What he does: journalist, blogger

Where to find: Instagram @susiebubble, website www.stylebubble.co.uk

And let's start with her selection of outfits in the style of works by Sonia Delaunay (Susie is holding them in her hands). The looks are made up of items from different designers: Jacquemus, Junya Watanabe, MSGM, Alexander McQueen and others.

And other images of Susie, a lot of photographs, to be honest, I couldn’t stop. Friends, if you go a little beyond your usual preferences, you can find interesting details in Susie’s style, such as combinations of colors, textures, and prints.

The freedom to wear what you like, regardless of gender, is a positive trend. I don't believe in strict gender divisions: the concept that boys should only wear suits and girls should only wear skirts is hopelessly outdated.

About the integrity of bloggers

Sometimes I accept gifts from brands, but this is what many editors and stylists do. I can only answer for myself: for me, these rewards are signs of gratitude for the articles I write. I don’t feel any pressure from companies and I publish every post because I believe in it 100%, and not because I’m paid. Bloggers must clearly understand how to build relationships with brands, when to say “no” and when to say “yes”.

Celebrity style on the red carpet

The red-carpet theme doesn’t bother me – I just don’t pay attention to it. I would like the stars to try to choose their own style, to take more risks, but at the same time, I understand that this way they will not create the images that are expected of them.

About celebrities' fascination with “naked” dresses

Personally, I wouldn't dress like that, but if it's a celebrity's choice, I'm happy for them! By the way, there is nothing revolutionary in this: back at the beginning of the 20th century, Marchesa Luisa Casati appeared at parties completely naked in only a fur coat and with snakes instead of jewelry. I don’t understand why the public is still shocked when they see revealing outfits?

About the crisis of the street style genre

I don’t think this genre has outlived its usefulness. Another thing is that everyone is a little tired of him, especially due to the fact that at Fashion Week he has ceased to be a reflection of the real street style, but became a synthesis of correctly constructed frames and carefully thought out images. I think street style can still be interesting as content for websites.

About new trends in the blogosphere

Speaking about new trends in blogging, it seems to me that the time has come for more specialized specialists - when people choose a specific topic and masterfully work with it. These could be still lifes: (instagram.com/thecollecteur) or funny illustrations (shitbloggerswear.tumblr.com).

About your favorite bloggers

Every day I read several blogs: Business of Fashion – I find out here last news industry; Park and Cube because its founder, Sheenie Park, takes amazing photos; Alex Furey's blog on the Independent as he is a friend and a brilliant journalist. On Repeat Repeat Repeat I get inspired by prints and designs, and on The Fashion Historian I always find well-written articles on topics that interest me.

About hobbies

I love movies and free time I spend real marathons watching old films of my favorite directors (usually through the Filmspotting podcast). I also love to cook and host parties at home: I never make the same dishes several times, I prefer to experiment with recipes and ingredients.

About criticism

Now I'm older, criticism doesn't bother me anymore - I know who I am and why my style is the way it is. It is impossible to constantly defend against attacks.

On the popularity of printed magazines

In my opinion, the popularity of blogs and fashion Instagram accounts does not at all indicate a decline in the quality of magazines or low professionalism of journalists. On the contrary, it seems to me that print media is currently experiencing a new wave of popularity - look how many independent specialized publications have appeared in the world in recent years!
