Anti-chapped face cream is an important component during the onset of cold weather. Proper care and protection will protect you from unpleasant consequences and dermatological complications.

As a result of prolonged exposure to dry wind on the skin, a condition called chapping occurs. This natural phenomenon has a destructive effect on the water-lipid barrier of the epidermis, which protects it from dehydration. In cold conditions, the body still tries to retain heat, so the blood vessels narrow. As a result, we get very dry skin, irritation that is similar to a sunburn.

You can get rid of chapping in just a few days, unlike burning. However, it should always be remembered that these phenomena are indirectly related to each other. The wind destroys the water-lipid barrier, which prevents the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation.

In this case, the sun causes even more damage to chapped skin. It is noteworthy that both wind and sun can cause damage to the epidermis even in cloudy weather. Residents of regions where a temperate climate prevails hardly encounter such a problem, while people exposed to strong and cold winds often suffer from such discomfort. Today we’ll look at what to do with a chapped face.

Signs of chapped skin

In the photo of a chapped face you can see changes in the skin. Let us highlight the following general features:

  • the skin becomes red;
  • a tingling sensation is felt;
  • irritation and peeling appear;
  • my eyes start to water.

Sometimes blisters form, a burning sensation occurs, and the skin takes on a swollen appearance. Often, chapped parts of the body look as if they have been sunburned, but tissue regeneration occurs faster because the damage is less severe.

How to speed up the skin restoration process?

What to do with a chapped face? Usually the skin recovers on its own. But there are many ways to speed up this process and prevent chapping in the future.

  1. Avoid hot showers and baths. Of course, many people in winter have a desire to soak their body in high-temperature water for as long as possible. But this can further damage the skin, cause additional irritation and dry it out. For washing and bathing, you should use only warm water, but under no circumstances hot water.
  2. Use mild soap and a gentle washcloth. For bathing, you need to choose gentle products. You should also avoid detergents with antibacterial and other aggressive properties.
  3. Apply moisturizing cosmetics. It is recommended to apply creams or lotions to damp skin after water procedures. They will help retain moisture in the skin and prevent dehydration.
  4. Turn on the humidifier. Too dry indoor air causes considerable discomfort to the skin, especially chapped skin. Therefore, it is very useful to humidify the air in the room.
  5. Avoid alcohol and drinks containing caffeine. Such products help dry out the epidermis. In this case, the drinking regime must be observed. You can drink not only pure water without gas, but also teas and natural juices. Cracked skin indicates that its upper layers do not contain enough moisture. The water balance of the epidermis must be maintained. This will help both in the treatment of chapping and in its prevention.
  6. Use a straw for drinking. This advice will be useful for those whose lips have been damaged by the wind. You also need to temporarily avoid citrus fruits, salty and spicy foods, because they will irritate the skin even more.
  7. Tissue regeneration will occur faster if you include Omega-3 acids in your diet. They are found in legumes, sea fish, and walnuts. These substances reduce skin oiliness and normalize the production of skin secretions.
  8. Are you worried about chapped skin? What to do in this case? Eat foods with vitamin E. This valuable substance for the body can be obtained from vegetable oil, sunflower seeds, milk, almonds, cabbage, eggs, and kiwi. Tocopherol significantly accelerates the recovery processes occurring in cells.
  9. For chapped lips, use a balm with a moisturizing composition. It needs to be applied every hour.
  10. Stop shaving. If this is not possible, then you should definitely use a moisturizing gel and only a sharp razor. The skin should be treated exclusively according to hair growth.
  11. Avoid foundation and powder. Cosmetics can increase irritation on the face. In addition, it will look very unsightly on flaky skin.

Now it’s worth considering effective folk remedies that help deal with chapped skin as quickly as possible.

What to do if the skin becomes chapped and begins to peel?
Methods for the prevention and treatment of dryness, symptoms of chapping and ways to eliminate it at home are discussed in our article.

Causes of chapping of the face

The very first and most predictable situation is walking in inclement weather. Wet snow, strong hot winds and sudden squalls of cold air can dry out and damage the sensitive skin on your face.

Chapping can also occur in summer when the skin is additionally injured by grains of sand. In addition to mechanical effects, temperature discomfort may also occur, resulting in drying out of the upper layer of the dermis.

Symptoms can appear in the most unexpected ways. First of all, these are redness and peeling on the cheeks and nose, less often the chin and forehead suffer.

In principle, all exposed parts of the body can be affected, so there will be several optimal treatment options.

Can it be prevented?

Prevention methods a lot has been invented.
Depending on the reasons that caused this condition, you can use protective creams or simply fatty compounds, protecting the skin from severe frosts.

Better to use in summer sunscreens, which may not save you from a sand squall, but will provide an additional temperature barrier on the skin.

Correct application of any composition includes certain time frame.

For example, you should not use any creams less than an hour before leaving the house.

This is especially important for antifreeze agents, which should be completely absorbed into the skin. If this does not happen or the cream was applied in too thick a layer, the effect will not only be the opposite, but another problem is possible - frostbite of the tissues.

Particular attention should be paid to the lip area in winter.. The skin there is very thin, so serious damage can occur.

The best way to save is special balms and hygienic lipstick.

The range of such products is very large, but you can even use regular Vaseline. For children, such protection will also be useful, especially since the balms can be used immediately before leaving the house.

In summer time It is also better to use special protective lipsticks.

“Summer” products necessarily include sunscreen components that prevent thermal effects and also actively moisturize the lips.

Do not think that this excludes a decorative effect. Cosmetics of this series also contain coloring pigments, so women will definitely like the use. For the little ones It is better to give preference to colorless options, and for men the protection should also be “invisible”.

If the problem of chapped skin has become a constant for you, you should also pay attention to regular care and hydration. Perhaps you should switch to other cosmetics or choose a richer cream with the obligatory content of healthy vitamins for the skin - A and E. Dry skin is more susceptible to such stress, because it does not have reliable protection in the form of a fat barrier.

Sensitive skin around the eyes glasses will protect well, which should also be selected taking into account the season. In winter, your eyes also need UV protection, especially if there is a lot of snow in your area. It perfectly reflects the sun's rays and is very painful on the eyes, so wearing tinted glasses in winter would also be appropriate.

A modern woman's arsenal must include an anti-chapped face cream that will protect the skin during unfavorable weather conditions.

Any external factor can negatively affect the condition of your skin and, if urgent measures are not taken, you can get dermatological problems. Such a factor as weathering is familiar to people in all climatic zones.

What happens to the skin after chapping

It is impossible to say unequivocally what consequences chapping threatens for the face. It depends on the individual characteristics of the person and the type of dermis. The result of wind action is often confused with an allergic reaction or burn.

The most common symptoms caused by chapping are:

  • swelling or swelling;
  • roughness, tightness, dryness, and sometimes flaking;
  • painful sensation when touching chapped areas, tingling and itching;
  • redness of a local nature or spreading over the entire surface of the face;
  • blisters and rashes, which are less common symptoms and are characteristic of chapping during the hot period.

If you are exposed to unfavorable weather conditions for several days and do not take any protective actions, erosions and cracks may appear on the skin. Dermatologists consider these signs to be the most severe consequences of chapping.

You can avoid these problems by choosing the right product for chapped skin. To do this, carefully read the information on the label of the drug you are interested in. Your choice should be based on several criteria:

  • compound;
  • manufacturer;
  • your skin type;
  • your tolerance to the ingredients included in the product.

If you have doubts about choosing the most suitable remedy, it makes sense to contact a specialist who will tell you which drug will be most optimal in your case.

Important: before applying a new product to your face, test it on your wrist. If no changes occur within 15 minutes after spreading the cream, your skin has tolerated the drug normally.

You need to help chapped skin wisely, so pay special attention to studying the ingredients that make up the cream you are interested in. It is important to consider that in summer and winter, products with different compositions will be more acceptable.

If it's hot outside, whatever you put on your face should contain a minimum amount of ingredients. Too much will prevent oxygen from penetrating the skin. When choosing medications for the winter, keep in mind that during this period allergic reactions worsen and the closer to spring, the more the lack of vitamins increases.

The optimal composition of drugs that protect against chapping is:

  • vitamins (especially in winter);
  • nutrients;
  • moisturizing components;
  • dexpanthenol or panthenol;
  • beeswax;
  • SPF protection.

The most suitable oils for nutrition are:

  • pink;
  • coconut;
  • aloe.

According to cosmetologists, the protective cream should include a rich oil formula. Substances that are undesirable are also named:

  • alcohols;
  • aggressive exfoliants;
  • glycerol;
  • petrolatum.

It is useful to know that healthy skin is capable of protecting itself from external influences; the use of protective creams and products that eliminate the symptoms of chapping should be justified and inconsistent.

Incredible! Find out who is the most beautiful woman on the planet in 2020!

Many people like to take winter walks through snow-covered parks, squares, and elegant streets. They are good when the sun shines from the sky and everything around sparkles and shimmers; especially pleasant in the evenings, at the moment of sunset. If the weather is frosty but calm, there will be no side effects from such walks. But on windy days, it’s better not only not to walk, but also not to go outside the room unless necessary: there is a high risk of significantly worsening the condition of your facial skin. If you still manage to chapped your delicate skin, this article will help you - from it you will learn how to promptly eliminate the problem that has arisen.

Symptoms of a chapped face

The negative impact of negative environmental factors on the skin of the face, namely the disgusting combination of severe frost and gusty, or even humid wind, not only causes unpleasant sensations within the affected area, but also does not have the best effect on its appearance. This is understandable, because, in fact, the outer skin is dried out due to increased evaporation and weathering of moisture from the epithelial cells. This provokes thinning of the fat layer and, as a result, the structure of the deeper layers of the epidermis is disrupted. Such skin looks reddened, irritated, flaky, rough, and sometimes cracked. Often, when looking at a chapped area of the face, an association arises with frostbite of the epithelium - the visual similarity is very great. The sensations that arise are also not pleasant: a person affected by the tandem of frost and wind suffers from itching, a feeling of tightness of the skin, burning, and in rare cases, aching pain.

Homemade masks for chapped skin
