How to care for viscose carpets. Viscose carpets: pros and cons, proper care. Caring for viscose rugs at home

Viscose is an easily dyed, static-free fiber made from wood pulp. Viscose is also called "rayon". High absorbency (viscose absorbs 13% moisture compared to 8% for cotton) and color depth allow it to be dyed in bright, shining shades, but at the same time determine its need for a delicate wash. Read the first paragraph of the guide and find out how to do it!

Steps

Washing viscose (rayon) clothes

Always refer to the garment care label indicated on the garment label. Viscose is usually very fragile, but sometimes it can still be machine washed. And at the same time some viscose clothing must not be washed... In order not to tear your favorite item, so that it does not shed or deteriorate, always follow the recommendations on the clothing label.

    • Although this section contains instructions for the manual and automatic washing of viscose garments, it should be read as general recommendations rather than as a general rule. In other words, always put the garment care instructions on the label first, not this article.
  1. Hand wash cold. If the instructions on the label say the garment is washable, it is always best to do it by hand rather than in a washing machine. When wet, viscose clothing becomes incredibly fragile, so gentle hand washing is not as dangerous as vigorous stirring in the drum of a washing machine. Place your rayon garment in cool water and add hand detergent. Wash gently: Rub the lather into clothes and massage without rough motions.

    • Never twist, squeeze, squeeze viscose clothing - these are not the ways to get rid of excess moisture. Instead, gently shake off excess moisture.
  2. Machine wash with similar material. If you are confident that your viscose garment will not be damaged by washing in the machine, make sure that this load contains only materials of the same delicacy. Heavier fabrics (such as denim) can snag the viscose during washing, stretch and tear it.

    • For added safety, use cold water and the delicate setting.
  3. Alternatively, you can use a mesh bag to protect your clothing. Another option to protect your rayon during machine wash is to put all your rayon garments in a mesh bag. This will keep delicate fabrics from mixing with other things, thereby eliminating the main risks of tearing.

Hang up to dry. When the rayon garment has been washed, remove each item individually and shake gently to remove excess moisture. Use your hands to smooth out any wrinkles. Then hang to dry on non-metallic hangers (metal can leave rust stains).

    • Alternatively, you can tumble dry or lay them out to dry on a clean, flat surface.
  4. Do not use electric dryers. In addition to all the problems that accompany washing in a machine (intensive mixing of things with each other, etc.) electric dryers also known the fact that the viscose after them sits down and wears out catastrophically quickly. If you can refuse to dry your viscose clothes electrically, we recommend that you do so. If not, set the temperature to the lowest and only dry your rayon garments in large batches.

Iron the viscose from the inside out only. Never place an iron on the front of your garment - this can burn and melt the fibers, leaving the garment with an unattractive "sheen" that cannot be removed. Always turn clothing inside out before using the iron. To be on the safe side, iron the rayon when it is slightly damp.

    • If you need to iron the garment from the front, place a cloth between the hot surface of the iron and the rayon to protect it.

    Washing viscose rugs

    1. Only wash the rug if absolutely necessary. Viscose fibers are very fragile and tend to shed. For these reasons, a simple attempt to clean your carpet can end up ruining it. If you have sentimental feelings for this viscose rug, and for you it is not just a rug, it is better to entrust it to professionals cleaning (dry cleaning) than risk causing irreparable harm (besides, it can shed) in an attempt to clean it yourself.

Shake out the rug outside. When cleaning viscose carpets, you have one main goal: maximum cleanliness with minimum moisture. Therefore, before using liquid detergents, it is wise to try cleaning it in ways that do not need to be wetted. Take the rug outside and shake it well to remove debris and dust. For more intensive cleaning, you can hang the rug over a railing or a rug and knock it out.

Vacuum the carpet. Then use a vacuum cleaner to remove any stubborn dirt and sediment. Vacuum the carpet in and out of the grain several times, paying special attention to dirty areas.

      • If possible, use a vacuum cleaner attachment that does not have a mechanical brush. Viscose is very fragile, and mechanical action with a stiff brush can easily tear it.
    2. Make sure the rug stays securely in place when you clean it. If the carpet is still dirty, you need to wash it gently. Place your rug on a table that you don't mind getting dirty while you clean, or place a waterproof oilcloth on the floor. To clean a viscose carpet well, you need to rub it, and you don't want it to slip to the floor, and so exactly do not want paint dripping from it and staining the floor next to it.

    3. Use a soft washcloth, soap, and water. Mix warm water with a few drops of carpet cleaner to create a cleaning solution. Use a soft bristle brush (like those used to clean windows) to rub the solution into problem areas. Do not use hard-bristled brushes or power brushes, as they can easily tear the fragile viscose fibers of the carpet. Use a cleaning liquid in moderation: the less moisture, the less risk of shedding the carpet.

      • It is prudent to test the detergent solution on a small area of the carpet that will not be visible before applying the detergent to the entire carpet. Before you start cleaning, you need to understand if the paint will leak from the carpet due to your detergent solution.

Since ancient times, people have tried to decorate their homes. Of course, in our time, the skin of a killed bear is no longer relevant, but carpets give the rooms comfort and are, in spite of everything, in great demand. Remarkably, products made from synthetic materials such as viscose are becoming more and more popular. They have a relatively low cost, excellent appearance and, most importantly, do not cause allergies, they do not get ticks. But for carpets to last as long as possible, you need to provide them with proper care. So, let's talk about how to care for a viscose carpet.

A little about viscose

What is this very viscose? This is a man-made fiber based on wood. In appearance, it resembles silk, wool or cotton. Such carpets are very light, do not electrify, soft to the touch. But you need to know how to properly care for them so as not to spoil the product. There are some nuances to consider if you have viscose carpeting in your home:

  • Such carpets do not tolerate strong rubbing with brushes or sponges.
  • They absorb moisture very strongly, and when wet, they can lose their shape. The threads stretch and the appearance of the carpet deteriorates. After the product dries, its pile becomes hard.
  • Viscose very quickly absorbs all impurities that penetrate deep into its structure, but it gives them up very reluctantly. Often, even after dry cleaning the stains, old stains are not completely removed.
  • Such a carpet will dry for a long time, but under no circumstances should it be left wet. An unpleasant odor may appear, and subsequently mold.
  • It does not tolerate direct sunlight, since ultraviolet light has a detrimental effect on both the dye and the fibers of the material themselves.

Daily care of your viscose carpet

Viscose rugs need regular cleaning. A vacuum cleaner or broom is perfect for this:

  • For these items, choose soft brushes and soft-bristled nozzles to avoid damaging the carpet pile.
  • Brush the carpet in the direction of the pile. If you are cleaning with a vacuum cleaner, try to move to one side as well.
  • The carpet must be vacuumed on both sides.
  • Do not place the product on a wet or damp floor. If you've washed the floors, wait until they are completely dry before laying down your carpet.
  • It is necessary to regularly clean the product from dust and small debris. If this is not done on time, then it will be much more difficult to clean such a product, since dust, small debris will be hammered deep into the fibers and it will be problematic to clean them out of there.
  • It is not recommended to hang a viscose carpet on a rope or a crossbar and knock out the old fashioned way. From such care, he can stretch, or even break.

Viscose carpet cleaning

Sooner or later, there comes a time when the product will have to be cleaned more seriously. You can, of course, give it to the dry cleaner, but you can master it yourself. How to clean a viscose rug at home? Since such a product cannot be washed at all, only dry cleaning methods remain.

Salt

You can clean your viscose rug with salt:

  1. Take coarse table salt and spread it evenly over the surface of the product.
  2. Rub into lint, then vacuum thoroughly.

Important! If the salt remains in the fibers, then it will be an excellent moisture absorber and will share this moisture with the viscose. As a result, the carpet will become damp and dirty.

Tea brewing

For dark products, tea brewing will help to cope with cleaning the product perfectly:

  1. The tea leaves should be slightly damp, but not wet. Sketch it onto the carpet.
  2. Roll it over the product, collecting all the dust and dirt. This can be done with a broom or brush.

Potato peelings

How and what else can you clean your viscose carpet at home? It turns out you can use potato peels:

  1. Slice a potato skin, wash and squeeze.
  2. Scatter over the surface of the product, then sweep.

Vinegar

Vinegar will help you to freshen up the colors of a viscose product:

  1. First, you need to vacuum the carpet.
  2. Make a vinegar solution. To do this, dilute one tablespoon of vinegar in one liter of water.
  3. Soak a brush in this solution, shake off excess water and work in the direction of the pile.

Important! You should also think about carpet care appliances. For more details, see our materials:

Special shampoo

There are special shampoos on sale for cleaning similar products:

  1. Whip the product into a cool foam, try to keep it dry.
  2. Spread the foam over the surface of the product and wait until it dries.
  3. Vacuum the product.

Important! Test on an inconspicuous area of the product before using a chemical.

Removing spots

If stains appear on your decorative viscose coating, you need to act quickly, because the dirt is absorbed very quickly. How to clean a viscose rug?

  • If the contamination is not very strong, then you can wet a towel, wring it out and wipe the problem area.
  • If this does not help, then call for help with a soft brush and clean the carpet, just do not rub too much.
  • You can remove the stain with a mild vinegar solution, citric acid, or a special carpet cleaner. After processing, experts recommend using fabric softener. It will soften the pile of the product.

Important! Do not attempt to clean such coatings with alkaline products, oxygen bleach or steam cleaners.

  • If you spill water, blot the area with a dry cloth or rag.
  • Brush the stain from the edge to the center to avoid smudging it even further.
  • Do not scrub the carpet too hard - this will not help the stain, but you can make the situation even worse.
  • If your carpet is wet, create conditions to dry it quickly. Place a well-absorbent cloth or tissue under the wet area. Do not hang it up when wet - it can stretch out. Also, do not put any boxes or stools under it - it may deform.
  • In cases where colored liquids have been spilled on it - wine, blood, coffee, it is better to contact dry cleaning specialists who can correctly remove these stains without prejudice to the appearance of the decorative coating.

Important! Viscose is a very common material and is used not only for the production of carpets. Often, these synthetic fibers are used to make clothing and home decor items. Read more about the options for use in our articles:

The carpet is not just a decoration of the premises, but also an excellent floor insulation. Modern carpets are made from a material called viscose. Its second name is artificial silk, because the play and play of the pile looks very much like silk. Beautiful viscose carpets are becoming more and more popular every year due to their incomparable quality.

Peculiarities

Viscose carpets are characterized by a chic appearance, as well as many other features, which include:

  • Manufacturing process. Such products are made both by hand and by machine. Ready-made copies outwardly are not inferior to silk paths. Viscose is a recycled wood pulp that is produced artificially, but from natural materials.
  • Producers are most often countries such as Turkey, Belgium, India, China and many others.

  • Viscose carpets are actively used both in ordinary residential apartments and in public places.
  • The durability of these products is at the highest level and this indicator does not at all depend on the height of the pile.
  • Sun resistance. They do not fade at all, which allows them to preserve their original qualities for many years.
  • This carpet option belongs to the category of the most affordable.

In fact, they are made from paper, but their quality and appearance are almost as good as natural silk products.

Advantages and disadvantages

Like any other product, viscose carpets have both positive and negative sides. The advantages of these carpets include:

  • The material from which they are made. It is well dyed, thanks to which a large and colorful assortment of these products is presented on the world market.
  • The quality of weaving, which is as close as possible to silk weaving, while the cost of viscose carpets is much lower.
  • Nice and soft to the touch pile.
  • They do not cause allergies, which allows the use of such floor coverings for people with similar health problems.
  • Lightweight and practical, due to which they are excellent for moving and transporting.
  • Safe for health.

In addition to the advantages, these carpets have their own disadvantages:

  • They are unstable to moisture, therefore, if water gets on their surface, it is necessary to blot it as quickly and carefully with a dry napkin or cotton towel.
  • Viscose rugs must not be used in kitchens, bathrooms and toilets. There, the product will quickly lose its quality.
  • This type of coating can be cleaned in dry cleaning or independently with special viscose agents.
  • The tendency to catch fire, so it is better not to lay them near fireplaces or electric heaters.

  • Spots appear over time. This is especially noticeable on light coatings.
  • Sliding base requiring additional fixation on the floor surface. First of all, this applies to large coatings.
  • Twice a year the carpet must be turned over to ensure even wear.
  • Such carpets are inappropriate in rooms with pets.

When buying viscose carpets, be sure to consider all the pros and cons of this flooring option.

Only the right and well-thought-out choice will allow you to create coziness in the room and fully enjoy the comfortable atmosphere.

Views

Modern viscose carpets can be safely called elite products. All of them are divided into two types of weaving:

  1. Machine, when products are made on a machine. The quality is carefully checked and controlled here, so that the finished products fully comply with all norms and standards.
  2. Manual - this production option is expensive and has its positive aspects. The product is made by hand by craftsmen who are responsible for the process of making carpets. They have an original drawing and design. The customer himself can develop an individual form and design that will have no analogues. At the same time, the cost of this carpet is much higher than that made by machine, since it takes about three months to make one such copy.

Dimensions (edit)

The sizes of viscose carpets can be very different. It all depends on the parameters of the room where this or that model will be located. Thin products with a size of 170 * 240 cm, as well as more voluminous items, are in great demand.

When deciding on the size of a viscose carpet, it is worth considering some of the nuances:

  • Small ones are suitable for focusing attention on a certain area of the room.
  • Mediums allow you to correctly divide the room into zones and emphasize all their advantages.
  • Large ones serve to completely cover the floor, but at the same time there must be gaps on the sides up to 20 cm.

Forms

Viscose carpets can be of different shapes:

  • Round. Fits perfectly into any room. Such models are well suited for a nursery or bedroom. Sizes can be very different, both standard and individual.
  • Octagonal. Carpets made in this shape look beautiful in any room.

  • Oval. Perfect for the kitchen.
  • Square. It is in perfect harmony with a room of the same shape.

Colors

The color range of viscose carpets can be very diverse. Viscose is easy to dye, which allows you to easily choose the model of the required color. You can purchase both monochromatic and multi-colored products, while all of them will have a high-quality and rich appearance.

In order to make sure of the quality of the dye with which the viscose carpet is painted, you need to run a white cotton cloth over the pile. If there are obvious traces, then this will be the first sign of the use of low-quality dyes.

Prints

The assortment of carpets is quite diverse. Each ornament is beautiful and unique in its own way. All patterns on viscose carpets are divided into several types:

  • animals;
  • plants;
  • geometric figures.

Products with geometric patterns and zebra patterns are very popular.

It is worth noting that each image carries a certain meaning and symbolism, therefore, when choosing, this fact should be taken into account.

Various styles

Modern viscose rugs can be a great addition to any type of interior. Among them there are models for almost every taste, so there is a suitable copy for every style of interior. For example:

  • Plain colors are in perfect harmony with any interior.
  • Abstract will perfectly emphasize design solutions in the high-tech direction. Most often they are laid in offices, choosing models in bright colors.

  • With animals and nature, they are used in living quarters, for example, in the bedroom.
  • Fusion is distinguished by non-standard sizes and acid-bright colors. These carpets are most often made to order.

For different rooms

Each carpet shape is suitable for a specific type of room. Among the viscose carpets, there are floor examples and those that are intended exclusively for wall decor. For example:

  • Products made using the patchwork technique fit perfectly into spacious rooms. If you lay such a carpet in the middle of the room, installing a small coffee table on it, complemented by beautiful furniture, you get a very cozy seating area. This shape matches with arches, bay windows and twisted furniture. To unite the areas of the room into one whole, the coating is often used in this particular technique, combining with its help the main shades of both rooms and making them more harmonious.
  • The 3D effect on carpets is used when there is a need to visually stretch the area of the room. Such options perfectly complement bedrooms, nurseries and living rooms. They look presentable both in the classic interior style and in the modern one. The main thing is to choose the right image.
  • Square, rectangular or rhombus-shaped are actively used for space zoning, as well as as a solid covering.

Do not forget that the lighter the floor, the darker the carpet should be. This is done in order to highlight all its benefits.

How to choose?

It is very important to choose the right carpet for the style of the interior, which will give a feeling of comfort to those around you every day. To do this, you need to know several criteria:

  • The seller must have documents that prove the quality of the selected product.
  • You need to navigate the current manufacturers, assessing their reputation and customer reviews. It is worth remembering that real viscose carpets have impeccable quality indicators and a fairly dense texture.
  • It is worth paying attention to the quality of the pile. It should have a soft texture, as well as shine and smoothness inherent in viscose. This is how they differ from products made of polypropylene.
  • You need to check the quality of the dye. Only professionally painted coatings can ensure their attractiveness over the years.

In order for the purchased viscose carpet not to lose its pristine beauty, you need to properly care for it, preventing exposure to moisture.

How to care?

Having become the owner of a viscose carpet, you need to know some of their features. If you follow the simple rules for caring for such coatings, then you can significantly extend their service life. They are as follows:

  • It is necessary to install rayon carpets on a dry and level surface. It is desirable that it be smooth and free from flaws, because uneven floors often stretch these coatings, deforming them.
  • For even wear of the pile, you need to turn the carpet from time to time, preserving its original qualities.
  • It is forbidden to place heavy objects on the viscose covering to avoid deformation of the product and crease of the pile.
  • Do not use water during cleaning, only dry reading is allowed. You need to vacuum the carpet using special attachments with a soft brush or without it at all. In this case, the speed is set to medium, in order to avoid damage to the fibers. Vacuum only in the direction of the pile. To keep the carpet completely clean, it is vacuumed on both sides.

Viscose rugs - some of the most beautiful carpets, but by no means the most practical. Both those and other qualities of the material are determined by its nature.

What is rayon fiber? This is one of the main representatives of man-made fibers. You can read more about fiber types. In short: man-made fibers are produced by chemical processing of natural materials. In this case, without going into details, wood pulp is treated with an alkali solution. Viscose yarn is dyed with dyes for natural fibers, but during spinning, like any of the representatives of synthetic fibers, i.e. is introduced into the structure. This explains the variety of colors in carpets, their brightness and resistance to color loss during chemical processing.

Viscose rugs come in three subtypes:

  • imitation silk (manmadesilk)
  • under cotton (manmadecotton)
  • under wool (manmadewool)

These subtypes are distinguished only by their physical (tactile and optical) properties and do not have a significant effect on the carpet cleaning process. In practice, imitation of silk is more common. Real silk from rayon (rayon) can be easily identified with a combustion test

In any case, viscose carpets are very pleasant and soft to the touch, and at the same time they do not electrify at all. Also, the main advantage of such carpets is their natural origin: viscose carpets breathe and do not cause allergies.

All of these positives come to naught when your expensive carpet starts to get dirty. And, frankly speaking, it is very scary, tk. cleaning such a carpet is a very complicated and expensive process.

Everyone wonders why it is so expensive? The answer lies precisely in the nature of rayon fiber (an analogy can be drawn with a quality paper napkin). Viscose is a very hygroscopic material, it can absorb water more than twice its own weight. This explains the quick and easy soiling of the carpet, which immediately transforms into the fiber structure. It is not possible to wash out such contamination by simple methods.

Carpets that are exposed to the sun's rays are highly susceptible to the burnout process. Luster is lost and general yellowness appears, irreversible destruction of fibers occurs under the influence of ultraviolet rays of the sun.

Difficult to remove fresh stains and almost impossible to remove old stains.

When dry-cleaning a viscose carpet, do not use:

  • a large amount of water. A carpet in a wet state is very easily damaged, loses its strength, shine and cannot be restored. At the same time, long drying leads to the formation of a rotten smell in the carpet.
  • acidic and highly alkaline detergents (destruction of the fiber itself occurs),
  • oxygen bleaches (Destruction of fiber. Appearance of yellowness).
  • No strong mechanical impact (single disc machine cannot be used). Low wear-resistant properties (in a wet state, you cannot even rub with a napkin or sponge).
  • The steam generator causes deformation of the carpet, up to the destruction of the fiber and loss of color. (steam spots are formed)
  • Carpets are even afraid of improper transportation and storage. There should be no sharp corners and no stress. Due to the high crease of the fibers, irreparable processes occur.

Such carpets are not afraid of only two types of cleaning:

  • Cleaning with organic solvents(perchlorethylene). The process is very expensive. It is carried out only on specialized equipment in special dry cleaners. The carpet is almost completely cleaned, but even such dry cleaning does not guarantee stain removal.
  • Dry Powder Carpet Cleaning... The service itself is inexpensive, while the carpet is cleaned and refreshed. However, most stains are not removed.
  • Vacuum cleaning weekly. Cleaning can be done both from the front side of the carpet and from the wrong side.
  • Change the location of the carpet in the room, in order to avoid the formation of trodden or dirty areas and the burnout of only certain parts.
  • Do not knock out the carpet by hanging it on a rope. In winter, if there is a quick drying of the carpet, it becomes possible to knock out the carpet in the snow.
  • If moisture or any other stain gets in, blot the stain with dry cloths. Do not rub in any way.
  • At least once every three months, order

Caring for viscose carpets is not difficult if you follow some recommendations. Cleaning tips are given in this article, and we hope they will be useful to you, because products made from this material are especially popular due to the softness and silkiness of the pile, the beauty of the patterns and the affordable price - you probably also have such a carpet in your house! If not, the omission can be made up: on the site you can easily select the most beautiful Belgian viscose carpets of the required size, as well as products from other manufacturing countries.

As you know, viscose is called artificial silk; in texture, it resembles it as much as possible. The material is made of wood, hence the "side effect": viscose carpets absorb moisture very well, and when wet, they lose their shape. That is why such products should not be located in rooms with high humidity (for example, in bathrooms), they are recommended to dry clean.

  1. A dry vacuum cleaner is suitable for weekly cleaning. It is better to remove hard brushes further away. Dust will be halved if you vacuum the carpet from the wrong side as well.
  2. The carpet should be taken out to fresh air a couple of times a year. It is especially useful in winter, when the pile can be freshened up with clean snow, brushes and beaters. In summer, sawdust can play the role of snow. But to expose the canvas to execution by hanging it on a rope or a turnstile and then knocking it out is not worth it - this procedure can deform the base.
  3. If there are stains on the carpet, a regular household vacuum will not help. In this case, arm yourself with sponges and specialized detergents. For viscose, they are substances that form a thick foam with a minimum proportion of water. The product remains dry after such cleaning.
  4. Liquids, drinks, accidentally spilled on a carpet with a viscose pile, must be urgently removed, armed with dry towels, sponges, napkins. While the wet area dries up, in no case should it be deformed. Also, do not rush to lay the viscose rugs on a surface that is not completely dried, for example, after cleaning the floors.
  5. In case of serious dirt, when home cleaning methods do not help, it is wise to send your furry pet to dry cleaning.
